Intro

With Country Music’s rise in popularity, it is important to note some of the most relevant changes in the music being produced in the genre. This industry is relatively new to the music scene and only began in the 1920s. Since its debut in the music world, Country Music has changed throughout the decades and evolved into what is now known as, “Sixth Generation” Country Music. The most noted difference, becoming more apparent as the genre has progressed, is the themes in the music. Country Music is most famous for telling stories of faith, patriotism, love, sorrow, and of the common workingman. However, the genre is seeing a change in the recent music being produced. It is becoming apparent that lyricists are moving away from the traditional themes of Country Music and introducing its new style, called, “Bro-Country.” This style is defined as contatining lyrics about pretty girls, trucks, beer, alcohol that leads to sex, and scantly dressed women.

According to Neff, “…objectification, was the main form of sexism in country music.”

According to Rogers, “Most people would assume that country is less sexist or has the least detrimental type of sexism within its lyrical content. However, one might also argue that it is more dangerous when sexism is buried within the lyrics. People might think this is “quality” music on the surface and really take the lyrics seriously. The idea that this is wholesome music is really what makes it necessary to study the underlying sexism that exists within it.”

According to Evans, “Overall, it would seem a significant cultural shift has occurred in country music somewhere during the first decade of the 2000s: references to sex, references to substance use (and particularly alcohol consumption) and – not coincidentally – references to drinking in connection to sex all experienced a jump between the years…...

Tenn Mom

...was a very trusting baby as my mom described. My parents were in their 40’s when they had me and had been married previously and both had two other children of their own. When I came into this world I had two brothers, two sisters, and a niece. I went everywhere with my brother, who actually graduated the year I was born, I went on dates quite often and just out and about whenever. My sister would also take me places, but my mom said not as often as my brother did. My mom said the only person I probably did not trust was my niece who was three when I was born and her and my sister lived with us. She said that when my niece, Stephanie and I were alone in a room one day she heard me start screaming out of nowhere when she came to check on us Stephanie got all defensive, so my mom thought she had done something to me, but decided to give her the benefit of the doubt. A few days later the same thing happened again, so my mom knew that she was actually doing something to me, but did not know what. She kept a close eye on me and Stephanie from then on, but still does not know exactly what happened during those instances. When I was two, Stephanie and I were outside when I started screaming, when my mom came out she saw me screaming and Stephanie with a glass Coke bottle in her hand, so my mom knew Stephanie had hit me with it. All throughout my early childhood things would get better and then Stephanie would do something to torment me like tell me mom got ate by a bear in the......

Mr. Mom

...Reginia Lanes Dr. Graham English 105 14 April 2013 Mr. Mom As I sat through frustration of rush hour traffic, I received a text message from my best friend who is a male. The text message read “What’s a good age to start wearing tampons?” My sarcasm immediately kicked in and I almost replied back “Whenever you think you’re ready.” However knowing this is probably another one of those sensitive subjects for him concerning his daughter, whom he has raised alone since soon after her birth, I figured I better answer seriously. I responded “Whenever she’s comfortable.” As usual he replied “Ok, Just thought I’d ask.” You see my friend is one of the many men that have challenged the stereotype that has been placed upon them of being absentee or dead beat fathers once their relationship ends with the mothers. This is proving to no longer be status quo. You see I have several male friends who are raising their children, mostly girls, alone. Thus we now have a growing number of “absentee or deadbeat” mothers in our society. According to new data from the U.S. Census Bureau, there is a significant rise in the number of single fathers raising kids. Specifically, the census data shows that the rise in families led by single fathers has outpaced the rise in single-mother families for the first time since 1970. Today, there is an increase of 14 percent of single-dad households. The number of single-mother households only increased by roughly 3.2 percent in the past 10 years. Gone......

While the boys doesn’t seem to mind their mothers watchful eagle eye, they explain that they know she’s only doing what she does because she cares. They honestly doesn’t care that their mom is being their personal secretary, which she comments on herself and remarks isn’t far from the truth. Helen Johnson, a consultor on parental relations and author on the subject also voices her opinion, stating what the mothers are doing is going to hit the kids in the back on their way to grow up. The text ends up with Robyn explaining her determination for her kids, but also that she knows that there is a point where she has to let go and let them live their own lives. 2, Outlining the attitude on over-parenting on text 1 & 2 Text 1: Robyn Lewis is very overprotective and ever watchful for her children. Her devotion towards their education seems to far exceed their own. She basically plans and forms every day of her kids life with notes, e-mails, checking their bank accounts and keeping their grades in check. Everything has to run smoothly, so of course she stays in......

Your Mom

...there. I felt like I was doing the same thing every day. So eventually I decided to not do my work. After a while the teacher decided to put me behind a small wall secluded from the class. It was a couple of weeks before I decided I did not want to go to school any more. Then my mom found out what the teacher was doing, it did not go over well. I’m pretty sure the principle was scared shit less. Needless to say I was not behind the wall any more. I can say I had good friends while I went there. One day I had a major migraine, everyone thought I was just faking it but one of my friends decided to walk me to the nurse. At the time the teacher was not in the class room, but on the way to the nurse she told us to go back. I don’t remember much after that. A couple of years later we had a new school in Wellsville. Same teachers unfortunately and the same principle, I was always told that he did not like kids. I had been late a lot due to the school being in a new area, walking there was the only choice I had. Apparently the teacher thought it would be a good idea to lock the door to the class room. So when I got there I could not get in and she would not let me in, so I went home. Then again my mom found out and the school had their hands full. If I remember right the teacher almost lost her job. The best year of my life was when I moved to Olathe and started at a new school....

John started to walk to Mark’s house. Ding-dong. “Hi Ms Ramos” John said. “Is Mark there”? “Yes he is” Ms Ramos said. “Hey Jim what are you doing here?” John replied. “I am playing call of duty with Billy.” Jim answered. “Well, be home soon” John told his brother. “Ok.” Jim replied. “Hey Mark what’s up?” John asked. “Nothing” Mark replied. “Lets go for the movie.” John replied “Can we go” ask Jim. “No!” replied Mark. It took them a long time to walk to the movies. Finally, they made it. They’re walking up the stairs. They waited on the line. It was their turn. John told the clerk “2 tickets to see Monsters in the Dark.” “Hey the tickets are gone!” the clerk yelled. “No they can’t be!” Mark replied. “Do not worry, we’ll solve this case.” Said John “Our suspects are your mom, Jim, and Billy.” Continued John. “Lets go to my house to talk to my mom,” replied Mark. They walked to mark’s house. Ding-dong. Hey mom we just need to ask you a few questions. Guys what’s this about? Well the tickets to the movie where going to see are missing. Teen Moms

...Daiejha Wilson 5-6-2014 Dr. Navare Teen Moms Being a teen mom is definitely not an easy task. Teen pregnancy is the number one reason why teen girls drop out of school. Many teenage girls begin to lose or forget about their dreams of ever finishing high school and going to college, and focus mainly on taking care of their babies. Without support and help from others, these girls are forced to end their education, to take care of their children. Statistics show that only about one-third of teen moms will graduate high school and a little over one percent of these mothers will receive a college degree before the age of 30. Becoming a teen mom should not stop a young woman from continuing with school. Therefore, many support systems, such as affordable childcare, support groups, public assistance, etc., should be implemented in their communities. Becoming a parent at a young age can alter a teen’s life tremendously. For most teenage mothers, school, let alone college are most likely the last things that are on their minds. They are worried about how they are going to take care and provide for their child. Many teen moms have no one to help them, they are basically on their own. Some have the desire to finish high school and attend college, but without the help and support it is almost impossible for them to do so. These mothers should be able to further their education just like the rest of their peers. However, teen moms have many factors in the way, such as not enough......

The Single Mom

...The Single Mom NURS 440 April 26, 2015 Deanna Radford There are a lot of assumptions out there about single parents and particularly single moms. For example, there are people who believe that most single moms choose to raise their kids solo, are unemployed, and receive government assistance. While every story is different, most don’t support these assumptions. Once largely limited to poor women and minorities, single motherhood is now becoming the new “norm”. This prevalence is due in part to the growing trend of children born outside marriage, a societal trend that was virtually unheard of decades ago. When you examine U.S. Census data, the actual single parent statistics may surprise you. Single Parents by the Numbers According to the U.S. Census Bureau, there are approximately 13.7 million single parents in the United States today, and those parents are responsible for raising 22 million children. This number represents approximately 26% of children under 21 in the U. S. today. Despite negative assumptions that most single moms “selfishly” chose to raise their kids solo, the majority of individuals raising children alone started out in committed relationships and never expected to be single parents. Of all single-parent families in the U.S., single mothers make up the majority. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, out of about 12 million single parent families in 2014, more that 80% were headed by single mothers.......

Teen Mom

...Teen pregnancy When it comes to teen pregnancy, there is no stereotype. Some teens can be persuaded into waiting. Others will have an opinion about sex and not change their minds for anyone. All teens have their own opinions about everything that they do and don't do. One teen might be the result of a teenage pregnancy and choose to wait. On the other hand, they might think that it is no big deal. Being a teen mom myself opened my eyes to many things. I got pregnant, partially out of choice - I thought that a baby would bring me and my fiancé closer together. It was mostly an accident though. There was nothing that my parents or anyone else could have said to stop me from having sex. I was engaged to the man of my dreams and gave myself to him entirely. Sometimes, the teen parents stay together, but unfortunately, as in my case, they often do not. The father of my child was just as excited and was looking forward to the birth of our son, just as much as I was. We had many plans for the future. We had already known each other for approximately four years, dated for around three years, and were engaged for a little over two years, before my baby was born. Everything was going great. Our love was only strengthened by my pregnancy. Once we found out that I was having a boy, the father was even more excited. He now lives in Nebraska, with his girlfriend of three months. He has only seen his son two times, since he was born. He was also called three times. It is so......

Also giving each of us unconditional love that no one else could ever give us. Single Moms

...Cultural Influence in Development Cultural Influences in Development Fhameka Lewis February 10, 2015 Argosy University Single Moms Single moms face a challenge within their lives. Some mothers become single through divorce and while others become single outside of wedlock. However, there is no set age for a single mom. Statics states that most females become single moms before they finish high school and is receiving some type of government assistance for help. The average single mom has either dropped out of school or working a minimum paying job. Because of the high cost of living rate it is impossible for these single moms to provide a healthy life for their children. Therefore the Department of Human Service is stepping up to the platform to help these moms seek better jobs and receive a better education. The Jefferson County Department of Human Services will be offering a variety of workshops for all single moms in the surrounding communities. The workshop is called Single Moms Taking Control, and will be on Thursday June 3, 2015 during the hours of 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. The purpose of the workshop will be to provide guidance and resources for all the single moms who which to go back to school to receive their GED or for those who which to obtain a degree in higher education. Teen Mom

...Teen Mom The show “Teen Mom” in my opinion has a very positive and negative balance of the show. Teen Mom is a television show which comes on the television station MTV, it is about a group of high school girls who have had babies, and they are still trying to maintain work, or even finish school. The show lets society into these girls’ lives, and shows the struggles, and also the high points of these teenage boys and girls lives, after having children. The show follows at least four to five young teenage girls, they also follow them through their entire pregnancies, and also the relationships that they have with their families. The show also shows how the relationships between the teen mom and dad may change before and after the baby. I like this show because it tells our young society that they should try and practice abstinence as long as possible, but it also sends a message out to the young teenagers about the way their lives could change with a baby. There are some teenagers who actually stay together on the show and get married, and then there are those teens that fall in the statistics category of being a single teenage mom. The show provides us with a balanced knowledge of wait could happen to us when we have a child at such a young age. The message it sends is very important, because there are a lot of teens who have children when they are young, it lets them know that they too, can become one of those teenagers who has had a child, and can finish school, find......
