Does being wealthy or having expensive material things make you successful? Does have a prestigious job make you successful? The answers can only come from within the person asking the question.

What makes a person successful? Attitude! Being able to look back at all of the trauma and hardships one has endured and realizing that you made it through. Through it all, you never gave up.

Success is to believe in your self. Success is facing challenges that come your way with the attitude “I will endure and overcome”. It is being able, when you feel like giving up, to delve into your innermost self to find strength and courage. It is being able to wake up to a new day, content with what lies ahead. It is being happy with who you are and what you have achieved. It is the power of positive thinking.

Success to some may be measured in money or possessions. A true successful person is one that can look at accomplishments, remembering the endurance needed to get there, and realize although times were tough, they never gave up. Having money, a big house, and a fancy car doesn’t mean you are successful. It just means that you make money.

To define success, ask yourself these questions: Are you happy with your life? Do you feel that you have made the most of your life? Do you feel triumphant in knowing that you never lost sight of what is important to you? Do you feel like you have been victorious with life’s battles?

Success does not come from what others believe about you. Success comes from what you believe about yourself.…...

What Is Strategic Management, and Why Is It Critical to the Success of an Organization in Meeting Its Goals and Mission?

...APPLE, Inc. What is Strategic Management, and why is it critical to the success of an organization in meeting its goals and mission? What is Strategic Management? The concept of "strategy" is based in a war scenario, the constant fights and battles over the centuries have caused the military to start thinking before you act- the battles are analyzed and planned in advance. In General Sun Tzu’s words: “The general who wins a battle makes many calculations in his temple ere the battle is fought.” When translating it to today’s Strategic Management’s words, it means: “Those companies and individuals who win in the business world make much calculation, planning and deliberations on their strategy and plans. Those who plan less have lower chance of success, much less those who don’t plan anything at all.” (Soo, 2011). Developing a Strategic Planning increases the likelihood that in the future, the organization will be in the right place at the right time. Strategic Management collects all activities and processes utilized by an organization in order to align resources and actions with mission, vision and strategy throughout the organization. When applied correctly, strategic management activities transform the vision into performance and enable the plan to evolve and grow as requirements and other circumstances change. What Qualities Have Led to Bec’s Success so Far?

...What qualities have led to BEC’s success so far? The success of BEC can be attributed to a number of factors. The organization has used segmentation, targeting and positioning strategies in order to diversify the market. For instance, the company has opened stores in Costa Rica, Mexico, Canada, and US. All the products sold by the company have been categorized into video games and recorded music. This offers the consumers variety and choice. BEC is also quick to seize business opportunities. For instance, BEC has invested heavily in information systems like the venture in online marketing. To ensure that the organization is not trapped in the cyclical nature of the expansion and contraction of sales video games, the company has devised a model for integration into all stores. ‘The game trading model’ ensures that users of the video games can exchange used video games for other videos on a rental basis. Instead of opening new stores for online distribution network, the organization uses the already existing ones. This has been a competitive advantage as consumers can access movies and videos simultaneously, thus cutting down costs. The management system at BEC is based on information systems where leadership plays a great role (Vankatesh, 2008). IS systems ensures that an organization makes effective decisions (Alwis & Higgins, 2001; Ajayi & Fadekemi, 2007). This ensures that decisions are easily made and the flow of information hindered. The IS at BEC has the capacity to......

The MDGs are made up of eight major objectives, which are all related to global development. In 2000, 189 world leaders signed a Millennium Declaration. The leaders set 2015 as the deadline for achieving the set MDGs. There has been a mixed result of the progress towards attaining these goals. One of the major achievements has been achieved is that there has been a major reduction of people living in extreme poverty. Accordingly, the proportion of poverty fell to less than one fifth from nearly a third between 1990 and 2004. However, the results are not consistent throughout the world. On the contrary, there has been a significant economic growth in some parts of Asia, especially, the Eastern part. The following is a summary of the progress that has been made so far based on the 2007 Millennium Goals Report. Extreme Poverty The percentage of people living in extreme poverty fell to 19% in 2004 from nearly a third in 2004. What Is Success

...freedom. For some, it includes a boat, a RV, and a cottage by the lake. However, another definition of success doesn’t list any of these. Success does not have anything to do with material goods but is rather tied to broader concepts. One measure of success is how happy a person is. For some people, they might feel their happiest when they have luxurious items. However, this is not universally true and is consequently not a true measure of success. Happiness for most people is a happy and loving family. If this is someone’s definition of success, then their family is what defines their success. For some, this success might mean trying new things and a lifestyle that supports it. Success is tied in with happiness because they are both highly subjective. Health can also be considered a defining factor in success. People feel unsuccessful if they, or someone they love, are not healthy. For instance, can father feel successful if his child is ill? This is why doctors, nurses, pharmacists, and hospitals are so important. Not only do they allow people to live longer, but they also allow people to feel successful in their life. Finally, success can mean overcoming hardships. No one likes hard and rough times with tears and pain. Someone who has come through the pain often feels like he or she has accomplished something. An individual that has overcome an obstacle achieves a measure of success. As David Brinkley has stated, a man can be proud if he has laid “a firm foundation with......

What Is Real Success

...Today, I want to talk about what everyone wants: success and happiness. No, I'm not trying to give you a philosophy lesson. I'm here to talk about two very simple things. That's it. Just two simple things. Success and the real meaning of happiness. Now of course, everybody wants to be successful. So, what is real success? Ralph Waldo Emerson said his definition of success was to laugh often and to win the respect of intelligent people. A lot of students say that going into a good university is success. Some people say getting into a high position in society is success. What is your definition of success? Becoming a pro gamer? Becoming a CEO of a famous company? Some may be the same, but as you see every person's definition of 'success' is different. Personal success comes in many different forms and your concept of being a success might not be the same as mine. If you want to be successful in your life, then the very first thing you should do is to take the time to decide exactly what “success” means to you. Never mind what it means to anyone else, what does it mean to you? To some people the concept of being a success is earning a lot of money. In fact society seems to base the whole concept of success primarily by how much money a person earns. I'm often amazed at how many people define success as making (or having) a lot of money. The way I see it, everybody's definition of success can be mapped on a simple grid. The way a lot of people think, success should be defined......

...Definition of Success A mansion, a sports car, and financial freedom are all very alluring signs of success to some. To others, success includes materialistic things such as a yacht, a camper, and a cottage tucked away by the lake. According to a study conducted by World Health Organization, 15% of people in high-income nations report being depressed, while only 11% in lower-income countries report being depressed (Bromet). Looking at these statistics, one can assume that the correlation of wealth and depression are positively related. It is clear, as shown by the previously stated statistics, that money does not always lead to happiness. To others, success may also be defined as “the fact of getting or achieving wealth, respect, or fame” (“Success”). However, the true definition of success does not include any of these things listed above. Success does not include material goods but it is rather tied to expansive, more meaningful perceptions such as happiness, persistence, and overcoming hardships. One way to measure success is by how happy a person is. For some people, they might feel their happiest when they have lavish items. However, this is not true for everyone and is not a correct scale of success. Happiness for most people is a joyful and affectionate family. If this is what success means to someone, then one’s family is what outlines one’s success. Dr. Dennis Kimbro, author of multiple best sellers, interviewed many successful people about their definition of......

To What Extent Was Spain’s Financial Weakness the Main Reason for the Success of the Dutch Revolt?

...To what extent was Spain’s financial weakness the main reason for the success of the Dutch revolt? Traditionally revolts correlated with the seasons but the Dutch Revolt resulted not from famine but from the want for religious and political freedom which Philip would not allow. Philip refused to let Protestantism survive in his territory, he envisioned himself as the last Catholic crusader in a Europe falling to the Protestant domino effect, however, suppression became unattainable igniting the revolt. This revolt by the United Provinces was then successful, this is the case because of Philip II alienation and lack of respect for the nobility, Philip not taking advantage of the revolts weaknesses and lastly Spain’s lack of funds for her armies fighting the revolt. I am going to argue in this essay that Spain’s financial weakness was not the main reason for the success of the revolt. Further to that in this essay I would argue that the main reason was Philip II’s poor leadership. Firstly, one could argue that the main reason for the success of the Dutch revolt was because of Spain’s lack of money. Revolts are extremely expensive things to deal with when they are militarised. Philip, decided to turn to the military to solve the problem very quickly in the case of the Dutch revolt. This meant he spent a huge amount of money on the military effort because it went on for so long (some call it the Eighty Years War). This lack of finance in turn led to serious problems for......

What Success Means to Me

...What Success Means to Me Being successful can be viewed in many different ways, such as being happy, having a nice house, being rich, being a good mother, or having something to make someone envy you. Many people only look at success in two ways: popularity and money. To me, success means to set a goal for myself, plan the steps to achieve it, carry through with the plan, and finally to achieve my goal. There is no better feeling than when you have finally accomplished your goal that you’ve set for yourself. My first goal is to earn my degree in my chosen profession which is Marine Science. I never really knew what I wanted to do in terms of a career. I knew what hobbies I loved, and so I decided to turn them into something that I would do for the rest of my life. The next objective that I’ve set for myself is to find the perfect job in the career field that I have chosen that is best suited for me. There’s a quote by Confucius that says “Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life” and that is what my aim is for myself. The last goal that I will accomplish is to travel someplace that I’ve never been before every year. I’ve set a few goals for myself in life, and I plan on accomplishing them all. Now that I know what my goals are in life, I have to start planning the necessary steps to achieve them. For me to accomplish my first goal in life I have to decide which University overseas could help me in earning my degree after I have......

What Is Success in College

...Macy Koon Dr. Thompson COLS 1001 11 December 2015 What is Success in College What does it take to succeed in college? When I think of success I think of achieving something that I have desired, planned or attempted. A successful college experience for me would be developing important study skills such as how I can study, what I can do in and out of the classroom, and how I can manage my time. It is often claimed that the most successful college students attain success because they are only smart and study hard. Success in college for me goes beyond intelligence and hard work. It depends on my motivation and developing good study habits. My motivation is the reason I am at college. No one motivated me but myself. In the book What the Best College Students Do, Ken Bain talks about how making straight A’s is nice. I agree with him. He also says that straight A’s hardly guarantee a happy or productive life. In order to succeed it takes a personal sense of purpose. To have success we need to make good decisions and have self-confidence. In order to be a successful student I need to be a risk taker and make connections. Rather than chasing success, I have to achieve it. Bain details that there are three types of learners: surface, who do as little as possible to get by; strategic, who aim for top grades rather than true understanding; and deep learners, who leave college with a real, rich education. In high school I was a surface learner. I did not always apply myself......
