WAGIn the highly competitive prescription drug market, Walgreens is no longer competing only against the well-known traditional drugstores, but also with other new competitors that are increasingly proving to be strong competitors our two main traditional competitors are: CVs and Rite Aid.
On the other hand, we are facing increasing competition from some discounters such as Wal-mart and target
-------------------------------------------------
and also from, online pharmacies.
First, let’s talk about Rite Aid..
Despite the fact that Rite Aid is the largest drugstore chain on the East Coast of the U.S, we don’t consider it, at least for now, a significant threat to us. After the acquisition of Brooks and Eckerd drugstores in 2007, Rite Aid is now financially the weakest compared to Walgreens and CVS
-------------------------------------------------
, and as a result, Rite Aid added to itself a huge long term debt.
Our second traditional competitor I wonna talk about today is CVS

…as a matter of fact, we consider CVs our major competitor among all other competitors. It’s the second largest chain in the U.S. Also, it’s is the nation’s largest pharmacy service provider, having purchased Caremark group in 2007, which handles a good portion of CVS annual revenues.
Although we might have similar operational activities, we, up to a certain extent, take different approaches to achieve our growth. While we choose to organically grow by opening new stores, CVS assumes a riskier business model by growing through acquisitions. There are many disadvantages of considering such risky strategies:
First:
The acquisition of CARE MARK had made CVS face many difficulties in integrating its retail drug with Pharmacy Benefit Management businesses, which as a result led to a great loss in contracts in 2010.
Second, and most importantly:…...

...condition of Wiki Art Gallery, Inc. (WAG). Our opinions/recommendations are unbiased and we believe are representative of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). After reviewing the significant events for fiscal years 2010 – 2011, the following recommendations were determined (please see subsequent paragraphs & Exhibit A for revised 2011 income statement). During September fiscal year 2011, two sales were recorded for artwork that was undelivered and not paid for as of year-end. GAAP states that revenues should only be recorded when they are earned (goods are transferred or services are rendered). Our recommendation, in accordance to GAAP, is that WAG not recognizes these sales until the goods are transferred. Recognizing the sales before they are delivered (not in accordance with GAAP) would overstate net income. Revenues from ‘Artwork Sales’ should be restated at $30,600. As a direct result of sales being adjusted due to revenue recognition issues in accordance to GAAP, the ‘Cost of Artwork Sold’ needs to be adjusted as well. The company currently states that the average cost per piece sold is $1,000. This amount (cost) is subjective and no relative market value is given. In the future if the company continues to record its inventory at the lower of cost or market it would be advisable to have a financial accountant assess the current cost of inventory or, have readily available, the market value of relative items. If WAG does not adjust the......

...Wuthering Heights has a very complicated narrative structure. There are two clear narrators, but in the nove ldialogue plays a great part, too. These narrations not only helps us to build the story in different levels, but also leads us to see from different perspectives. Also the story is understood easily by participation of the characters in the actions. I have indicated that the story is mainly told by two main narrators but apart from these narrators, we can see that other characters who are in the action, also explain to the reader what is going on as Catherine does at he begining in her diary. One thing to remember is that , the narrators are eyewitnesses, characters involved in the story, and they neither have an absolute knowledge about the events, nor about the inner life of the other characters. Which makes the story even more personal, any reader can read and take a side of his own as there is no omniscient narration. I have said that Wuthering Heights is told by several different narrators, including Nelly Dean and Lockwood. Of course, they differ from each other. To examine each of them a little bit; Lockwood’s narrative style isdifferent from Nelly’s style, and his language is also different . He writes with an educated literary language, with complex sentences, longer phrases. Along the book, his style becomes more and more sophisticated. The language used by Nelly seems particularlypredictable, coming from a housekeeper. It is simple, but not easy. Nelly...

Wag the Dog

...Additional Perspective Why does a dog wag its tail? Because a dog is smarter than its tail. If the tail were smarter, the tail would wag the dog. The opening credits have a various interpretation, according to Philip Coppens. Some suggest that the dog symbolizes public opinion and the tail represents the media. Other would say that, the tail symbolizes political campaigns and the dog is the media. But sometimes, the dog is the people and the tail is the government. So, Coppens stated that the phrase “tail wagging the dog” is the same as “any case where something of greater significance (such as war) is driven by something less (such as sex scandal)”. Moreover, it was believe that the moment before the start of the press conference in which Monica Lewinsky was about to give information of her presence in the Congress, White House announced the missile strikes against Sudan and Afghanistan. Critics argue that the operation was made to draw away the publics’ attention from the scandal of Clinton and Lewinsky. Barry Levinson’s film was a product of inspiration from the book of Larry Beinhart, American Hero. American Hero was about President George Herbert Walker Bush and Desert Storm, a fake war and the first war in Iraq. Bush planned the Persian Gulf to guarantee re – election in 1992, but he failed. ...recognition criteria and policies (should change revenue recognition method or change the allowance estimation, 2011 allowance amount should be larger than 2010 due to larger AR and the difficulty that the artist been through) WAG records revenue from artwork sales when the Company and customer agree upon a selling price. This criterion does not conform to U.S. GAAP, which requires revenue be recognized when it is earned and realized or realizable. i.e. WAG should recognize its artwork sales when it has already delivered the artwork and received the payment or a claim to the payment. However, in this case, the customer TEAC who bought two oil paintings in early September has not taken delivery of and paid for the artworks yet. So in concept of U.S. GAAP, we believe this revenue has not been earned and should not be recorded in 2011’s revenue. The corresponding A/R, Inventory, Cost of Goods sold should all be adjusted. WAG’s net income in 2011 is overstated by recording this lucrative transaction. The revenue recognition method for artist fees is complied with U.S. GAAP. It is recognized as it is earned each month. So this part is fairly presented. Costing and valuation method for inventory * Incorrect period to apply the lower of cost or market WAG record its inventory of artwork at the lower of cost or market, which seems to conform to U.S. GAAP. But the initial measurement should the cost rather than the lower of cost or market. ASC 330-10-30-1 states that the......

Wag the Dog Reaction Paper

...I. Background Information Wag the Dog is a hilarious new satire movie directed by Barry Levinson. Ironic with the genre of the film as a comedy, it carries a serious and an eye-opening message about the relationship between politics and mass-market entertainment. This is one of Levinson's best films, and the screenplay, co-penned by noted writer David Mamet along with Hilary Henkin, is brilliantly on-target. The story begins with presentation of the premise which is the president of the United States is accused of having sex with a teen aged girl who belongs to an organization similar to the girl scouts and the election is less than two weeks away. A brief encounter with a Firefly Girl becomes public knowledge, and now his 17% lead is about to go downhill. The president's opponents get wind of the story and use it to their advantage. Thus, this led the president's Public Relations team to take action regarding the crisis. Winifred Ames played by Anne Heche, one of the President's top aides, calls in spin doctor extraordinary, Conrad Bream (Robert De Niro). Conrad goes to work immediately, thinking of the best way how to turn away the public's attention from the Firefly Girl issue. He came out with the idea to create another bigger issue for the public to think about and over power the bad publicity caused by the sex scandal. "Change the story, change the lead" is his motto, so he decides to manufacture a small, cost-effective war against Albania, which he euphemistically...

Wag Water River

...AIM The aim of this field investigation was: 1. To investigate stream channel characteristic to see how they vary downstream. * Does the stream get wider and deeper downstream? * Does a rock sample vary downstream? 2. Examine the different erosional and depositional features of the river. 3. To investigate the impact of humans downstream. methodology On this field trip we went to Wag Water River. We use material such as rulers, stop watch, sketches and description of sites was made; method of observation was used to see how humans use the river for various reasons. Along the river channel group of student did the following at different points; Velocity: we measure the velocity of the river atleast three times to get an accurate measurement, we calculate the average. The velocity of the river was measured with a half filled bottle of water placed in the water at a given distance of 30m for some seconds (velocity=distance/time (seconds). The stream was also measured before and after tributary to show effect of tributaries, and deposit load which affects flow of the river stream and this was calculated by (cross section x velocity), then we compare the stream discharge at different sites and accounted for the differences. After we did that we also measured the depth of the river, we used the meter rule for this measurement, for every meter we measured the depth then we find the average. Rock samples were also taken to classified as: very angular,......

...the effect on income.” The Our advice: WAG should record their inventories’ basic cost and show a change about the adjustment, this adjustment should charge from the revenue. Also, WAG should use FIFO, LIFO or Average method to record their cost of goods sold. As the revenue part mentioned, if the company should not record the revenue of the $50,000 sales, they need to deduct the related cost for the sales. As a result we do not think WAG fairly reported their inventory and cost of goods sold. Depreciation Expense The only equipment for WAG Company is the computers as their note mentioned depreciation use the straight-line method, the useful life is 10 years. Based on the ASC 360-10-50: “Because of the significant effects on financial position and results of operations of the depreciation method or methods used, all of the following disclosures shall be made in the financial statements or in notes thereto: a. Depreciation expense for the period. b. Balances of major classes of depreciable assets, by nature or function, at the balance sheet date. c. Accumulated depreciation, either by major classes of depreciable assets or in total, at the balance sheet date. d. A general description of the method or methods used in computing depreciation with respect to major classes of depreciable assets.” Advice: The 10-year period for a computer is too long, WAG should change their estimate useful life for their equipment. We suggest the WAG use 5-year or shorter year to allocate......

...rubrics for use by instructors. THE CASE The Setting Wiki Art Gallery, Inc. (WAG) is a privately owned business started in 2006 by two students. Rob Wilco combined his entrepreneurial business interests with Stephen Conley’s knowledge of artwork to create an online art gallery, which they named WAG. WAG’s start-up years were challenging. The owners contributed their savings to the company, but initially earned little return on their significant investments of money and time. Propelled by a belief that their work would pay off, they persevered. Now, it appears their luck is changing. WAG became profitable in late 2009 and has reported a sizable net income for the year ended September 30, 2011. Both owners are excited by this turn of events. In the summer of 2010, Stephen had indicated he would like to buy out Rob, which coincided with Rob’s interest in leaving WAG and embarking on a new career. Realizing that he has limited accounting knowledge, Stephen has approached you for advice. As a private company, WAG’s shares do not have a readily available price. Consequently, Stephen and Rob have agreed to calculate the buy-out price using an ‘‘earnings multiplier’’ equal to five times WAG’s GAAP-based net income for the year ended September 30, 2011. Although Rob has been a reliable friend and business partner in the past, Stephen is concerned that WAG’s fiscal 2011 results could be misstated or biased because WAG does not obtain an annual audit. Stephen would like you Fred......

Wag the Dog

...the context, ‘Wag the Dog’ (a 1997 film directed by Barry Levinson). I aim to get my readers to recognise the large role that media play in influencing our realities along with how dangerous the collaboration of the media and the government truly is. In order to put forth my opinion I’ll write in a cynical tone to portray that the motives of particular people are bad, I’ll use factual (gun crimes in the US) and fictional (‘Wag the Dog’ and ‘Leaky Boat’) evidence and I’ll use proper terminology to add sophistication and credit to my piece. In this piece, I draw on examples from ‘Wag the Dog’ (1997 film directed by Barry Levinson), ‘Leaky Boat’ (2011 ABC documentary) and gun crimes in the US in order to illustrate the idea that people are easily influenced by external sources, especially when they have authority. ESSAY: Stephan Lewandowsky’s study shows that “weighing the plausibility of a message is cognitively more difficult than simply accepting that the message is true – it requires additional motivational and cognitive resources.” This shows why peoples realities are heavily influenced by others, this is due to the difficulty of weighing the plausibility and the foundation of the reported truth or version of reality. People’s reality can be influenced by the media, government, values, beliefs and perceptions. This is apparent in ‘Wag the Dog’ (1997 film directed by Barry Levinson), ‘Leaky Boat’ (2011 ABC documentary) and gun crimes in the United States. ‘Wag the Dog’......

...[pic] De La Salle University – Dasmariňas Communication Arts Department MOVIE REVIEW: WAG THE DOG Submitted by: CARLYN GAE ESTANISLAO COM32 Submitted to: Prof. ROEL S. RAMIREZ, APR mARCH 2011 1/11 I. Background Information / Additional Perspective "Why does a dog wag its tail? Because the dog is smarter than the tail. If the tail was smarter, it would wag the dog." This film is an incredibly witty movie, with a rare blend of cynicism, humor, and intelligence by Barry Levinson, Wag the Dog thus begins with these opening credits, an early indication of a dark socio-political satire that would unfold to criticize mass media and indecisive public opinion, but most importantly, the abuse of power by political leaders. Wag the Dog also satirizes the immaturity of the society and how people's unquestioning absorption of propaganda only encourages the media to exploit them on a higher level. Conrad Brean (Robert De Niro) is a retired political consultant, a spin doctor who resurrects the support for the US President's after his disastrous scandal with a teenage girl just eleven days before the election. In order to smother the sparks of rumor ignited by the media, Brean invents an international crisis to sway the people's vote he fakes a war on Albania. The president heroically ends the war and his compassion and exceptional 2/11 leadership qualities are presented through the mass media to the people, winning back their faith. (Lu...

...February 14, 2012 Stephen Conley Wiki Art Gallery, Inc. 117 Western Ave. Peoria, IL 61604 Stephen, Thank you for taking the time to meet with us.During our meeting, you stated that you (Stephen) are planning to purchase your co-owner’s (Rob Wilco) shares of Wiki Art Gallery, Inc. (WAG). As a private company, WAG’s shares do not have a readily available market price. However, you and Rob have agreed on calculating the buy-out price using the “earning multiplier” equal to five times the GAAP based net income for the year ended September 30, 2011.You stated that you would like an opinion regarding the 2011 financial information as it has not been audited. You would like to know whether WAG’s fiscal 2011net income fairly reports the company’s financial success as this will be the basis of your purchase price of the company. We discovered several areas of concern: revenue recognition, allowance for doubtful accounts/bad debt, inventory valuation/cost of goods sold, capitalization/depreciation of assets, and accounting for dividends. We based our audit on the U.S. GAAP, IRS and FASB standards, which includes the sources listed at the end of this letter. Revenue Recognition Wag Company reports revenue when a price is agreed upon with a buyer. According to GAAP, revenue is recognized only when realized or realizable and when earned. Realized revenue is when products are exchanged for cash or claims to cash. Revenue in considered realizable when a promise to pay......
