Meditation XVII:

(Donne, J., 1924/1987) I find it ironic that this poem is written in 1924 by a poet who has recently recovered an illness that nearly takes his life, and is again used in the book by Ernest Hemmingway For whom the bell tolls, in which the main Character is a professor at a University who is also an explosions expert on a mission to blow up a bridge. Yet knowing he will not survive his mission uses this poem as a reference to what he is sure will be his own death. However, as I think of this person being a professor would it be an irony that instead of being death it may talk about life as a teacher? For whom the bell tolls, it tolls for thee, not to remind us of death but to remind us of our service to Mankinde. Does that bell toll for our students to get to class or does that bell toll to remind us of the commitment we made when we decided to be teachers of those students. Now that I have your attention the following information has been asked of me to be considered as I explain my plan for vocabulary instruction. Considering the fact that Karen Bromley tells us in her article Nine Things a Teacher should Know about Word that the larger the students vocabulary , the better they will read and understand the text they are reading . ...Project Management Best Practices In the project management world, the development and utilization of best practices is the key to success for projects of all shapes and sizes that yield the highest quality result. Finding the perfect balance between the organization, observing, and governing of projects help organizations reach the goals and objectives set by shareholders and executives. Best practices can be determined by finding simply what works best. Organizations can determine this a couple of ways. One way is to benchmark, or compare practices used by other organizations that are similar to yours. (Veatch, 2011) If a company in your industry is striving, using philosophies or techniques that are commonplace to them should become familiar to your organization. Another way is to use techniques such as postmortem meetings after the closure of projects to determine what worked and what did not. Listening to your resources and determining what was helpful in reaching the goals outlined in the project, or finding out what was an interference can outline practices that will spell success for future projects. ...that I conducted on web design best practices, I quickly came to the conclusion that the phrase “best practices” seems to be a set of opinions based upon the articles’ authors. It’s also quite clear that web design best practices are geared towards the goals and target audience of the website or web application. For instance, a business web application used to process some sort of data and then display that data in a more meaningful way will have a different set of best practices than a website that allows visitors to create a profile, connect with friends and share certain types of media formats, such as uploading photos and videos. That’s why it’s very important to answer all of the “who”, “what”, “where”, and “how” questions that are asked before laying down a lick of code. Once a web designer and/or project manager has all of the requirements gathered for the website, then we get into thinking about what best practices to use when designing the website.
