We define success as accomplishment of an aim. The accomplishment could happen without setback, but development will be lacked. In his early years, Tom struggled with average grad and an introverted personality. He overcame his weak points to be a successful person in his life and job.
Starting by the first success he did which is from middle grades in the school, withdrawn in the beginning of the college, and shifting major from math to economics to doing well in economics major and achieved MBA. Second success is changing his personality from introvert to socially. He became the president of fraternity by the end of senior year. The third success is clear in his business. He received promotion after twenty months from getting his job, while working at Procter and Gamble. Getting promotion quickly emphasizes his success. Having a call from McKinsey and put him in “look up file” that means McKinsey Company has heard about him and his accomplishment. In addition, he received offer from Marriott. Bill Marriott asked him to figure out the problem they got in their business with general manager. Finally, he made up his own Strategic Planning Skills that is part of his success as he pretended; he usually uses these strategies to hire people. He looks for people who can simplify complex problem in the business, who can do business from a marketing perspective, and who are very practical person, aggressive and team oriented. Tom always looks for a job that gives him more opportunity to learn. He does not like routine tasks.
Tom describes himself as a serious and aggressive person. Our perspective about Tom and his wife Judy is that, they tried to establish the success in their life by using “we” and “our” instead of “I” and “you” in their relationship. (Fortune, 2008) MyCoskie competed on the second season of the hit show The Amazing Race, where he traveled to Argentina. There he met many children and adults who could not afford to buy shoes, he was troubled by this fact and wanted to do something about it. He traveled back to Argentina for vacation and it was then that he decided he would start a shoe business, but not an ordinary shoe business. He decided that for every shoe that was sold another shoe would be donated to a child in need. It was then that MyCoskie’s “One for One” marketing plan was created. I started becoming interested in TOMS about four years ago when one of my friends went on a trip and brought me home a pair. I loved them, they were extremely comfortable and I felt so neat wearing them, mostly because the people I hung out with at the time wore them and I always wanted a pair. TOMS was still relatively new to the world when I started wearing them. Blake Mycoskie founded TOMS in 2006 after taking a trip to Argentina and seeing the vast amount of children walking around without shoes. These people were experiencing devastating poverty and weak health conditions. Mycoskie left Argentina and couldn’t shake the feeling that he needed to do something to help. That’s where the journey for a new hope began. The traditional shoes that the lucky few Argentines wear is called alpargata and Mycoskie’s idea was to take that traditional shoe and reinvent it. The other part of his idea was to make every pair of shoe that was sold to a new pair to give to a child in need. ...Theme Chart Analysis Using the Grounds Theory approach our group determined and analyzed the common themes on social media surrounding the Toms Shoes brand. We created a Theme chart and a sub-theme chart from the largest theme. These charts can be seen below. The top three themes were 1) Social Justice, which was mainly comprised of soundbites focused on the Toms One For One motto and their positive impact on those less fortunate 2) Style, which was largely focused on the look of the shoes and 3) what we named Purchase/ want, this category was comprised of soundbites in which people were talking about a purchase they had just made or stating that they really wanted to purchase a certain pair, more pairs or every pair of Toms. We have chosen to further discuss a number of the themes seen in the charts below. Theme: One Day Without Shoes The most talked about theme turned out to be Social Justice and a large sub theme of social justice was Toms campaign advertising campaign; One Day Without Shoes. Therefore we began to evaluate the effectiveness of the Toms Shoes campaign “One day without shoes,” which is held every year. This year of 2012 the event was held on April 10th, 2012. Stowe was partly inspired to create Uncle Tom's Cabin by the autobiography of Josiah Henson, a black man who lived and worked all his life on a 3,700 acre tobacco plantation in North Bethesda, Maryland owned by Isaac Riley. (Harret, 1853, p42) Henson escaped slavery in 1830 by fleeing to the Province of Upper Canada (now Ontario), where he helped other fugitive slaves arrive and become self-sufficient, and where he wrote his memoirs. Stowe eventually made the acknowledgement that Henson's work inspired Uncle Tom's Cabin to some extent. When Stowe's work became a best-seller, Henson republished his memoirs as The Memoirs of Uncle Tom, and traveled extensively in the United States and Europe.(Debra,2003,p25-26) Stowe's novel lent its name to Henson's home—Uncle Tom's Cabin Historic Site, near Dresden, Ontario—which since the 1940s has been a museum. Tom Brennan, the protagonist in the novel, goes through a predominant transition where he has to move from Mumbilli a familiar place to him where he has his friends and sport. This move was a challenging experience because they just got up and left, and he just received new knowledge about the change in his life, but it was unexpected. Poverty is endemic to many developing nations in Africa, and many attempts have been made to ameliorate the socio-economic toll that it wreaks on the region. However, the continued predominance of poverty in the region today makes it clear that previous attempts at traditional poverty eradication have failed. More recently, the rise of social entrepreneurship has revitalized the discussion about poverty alleviation, with companies committing themselves to creating transformational benefit for the disadvantaged segments of society (Martin 151).
