MANAGEMENT PRACTICE Effective Management Practices in the Workplace A good, effective management practice to use in any workplace is the five functions: planning, leading, organizing, staffing, and controlling (Reilly, 2011). A successful workplace has to have a great staff working to help it move forward. A great leader (owner) will ensure that employees are organized, informed of the planning, leading, staffing, and controlling to reach the goals of the organization. Working in the clothing industry is tough so applying the five-functions in the workplace will work when it is applied properly. To be successful managers and owners need to know the five functions, and how to implement them into the workplace. Success will be reachable and achievable when all five functions are taken seriously and applied into the business as a team effort. The first function is planning; Owners and managers use planning to choose appropriate business goals and identify the right course of action to reach their goals (Reilly, Minnick, & Baack, 2011). It takes careful planning to make any business run at its fullest capacity and achieve the goals set. Implementing planning is part of every management function it is the foundation to build a…...

Applications of the Five Functions of Management

...Applications of the Five Functions of Management Applications of the Five Functions of Management The five functions of management, planning, organizing, staffing, leading and controlling are all necessary actions to ensure a successful path of operations in the depot. Each of these functions will be detailed in the coming text to show the relationship each has to the other and as they apply to the day to day challenges that the depot faces. Repair activities in the depot must begin with a plan. As the depot operations manager planning begins with a complete understanding of the action that must be undertaken. Strategic plans are designed to integrate all company activities into one coherent course of action (Bedeian, 1986, p. 100). Planning a repair activity in the depot consists of choosing strategies, resource planning and goals. These steps consist of different levels of detail. The strategy employed for a repair is determined first by assessing the failed carcass. The example we will use will be a Unit 3 Control Power Supply, Multifunction Chassis. This is one of the major units that the depot services. We begin the strategy aspect of the planning function by researching our data base to find valuable failure data that we collected during previous repairs. This data is then reviewed so a strategic approach can be developed. During this data collection and strategic planning commonality of failures, failure trends and corrective actions are......

In an organization such a Halliburton the managerial staff must be separate from the rest of employees as a manager’s responsibilities are different. Managers within Halliburton use the four functions of management to direct employees and reach organizational goals. Every organization is influenced by legal issues, ethics, and corporate social responsibilities. Halliburton has dealt with all three of these examples. Halliburton sets organizational goals at each level of operation. To reach these goals Halliburton employs four contrasting planning methods including; strategic, tactical, operational, and contingency planning. Halliburton is a diverse company that operates across many regions throughout the world. With such vast operations Halliburton must have a successful planning process.
