Introduction There are 9 different roles that people can fit into according to professor Wells. The sage role will be discussed in this paper. People may fit into several categories but may have tendencies that are biased towards a specific role. They tend to play different roles depending on the situation but have natural inclinations towards a single role. Thus, much of a person’s behavior can be classified within the 9 different roles discussed by Wells. This paper will speak strictly about the role of sage only and will compare sage to artisan. These roles can describe how a person thinks but cannot show how they may act in different situations. The way we treat our spouse may not be the same way we treat our boss. Furthermore, skill sets that define a group may be learned by any other group and skills are not mutually exclusive. The sage role will be compared to its polar opposite role, the artisan role. Finally, the steps to become a sage will be given if an individual wants to develop sage like thinking.
Sage Role Overview Historically sages have been known as wise people and people that are reclusive. People go to sages for advice or to gain knowledge. The sage role is taken from Wells (1997) and it is shown that the sage role is on the top left of the organizational chart. The sage tends to create order for its leadership process. The sage also will use systems in its focus of managing effort. If two words were used to describe a sage, it would be design and strategy. Sages pull together diverse information and design a coherent strategy. Sages also develop their knowledge by studying a wide variety of topics to increase their overall knowledge. (ch 1 p.9) Novelguide.com (2010) states that a sage is a wise or holy figure, whom possesses an understanding of the world that is beyond ordinary people. In the history books, sages were depicted as…...

...structure, charge low prices, gain market share, and become more profitable than its rivals. (We will return to the example of Wal-Mart several times throughout this book in a Running Case that examines various aspects of Wal-Mart’s strategy and performance.) This book identifies and describes the strategies that managers can pursue to achieve superior performance and provide their company with a competitive advantage. One of its central aims is to give you a thorough understanding of the analytical techniques and skills necessary to identify and implement strategies successfully. The first step toward achieving this objective is to describe in more detail what superior performance and competitive advantage mean and to explain the pivotal role that managers play in leading the strategy-making process. Strategic leadership is about how to most effectively manage a company’s strategymaking process to create competitive advantage. The strategy-making process is the process by which managers select and then implement a set of strategies that aim to achieve a competitive advantage. Strategy formulation is the task of selecting strategies, whereas strategy implementation is the task of putting strategies into action, which includes designing, delivering, and supporting products; improving the efficiency and effectiveness of operations; and designing a company’s organization structure, control systems, and culture. Paraphrasing the well-known saying that “success is 10 percent......

Roles

...Emelie McKeown September 9, 2013 Comm. 101 Bene Role (n); the rights, obligations, and expected behavior patterns associated with a particular social status. Each person in society has a different role, whether you’re a student, teacher, child, parent or even president of the United States. In this essay, I chose to discuss my roles as a student, restaurant server and daughter. In every role I learn so much every day and builds me up to becoming more of an adult. Within each role I change as a person, inside and out. I have to mold my actions and speech that would work well and agree with my surroundings I’m in. With each role I have a lot of likes and dislikes, ups and downs. It’s apart of life. Each character I partake myself as helps me later in life. I feel like each role is equally important to me. Being a student, even though most of the time its stressful and aggravating, is teaching me values that I’ll use later in life. It’s also preparing me for my career, Criminal Justice as a Victims Advocate. As a student I’m very quiet. Since college started, I haven’t made many friends, I’m there to learn and I’m in and out when I need to be. My mind is focused on what I need to know and learn. In high school I cared about what I looked like, since college has begun not so much. I honestly have a hard time getting up in the morning so I usually just throw on some clothes and add a touch of makeup. I usually have the same attitude at home as well. At home is where I......

...for me. MDE- What struck me most in researching this topic was the relative ease with which someone could find themselves diagnosed with MDE under current DSM-IV guidelines. Possibly without them having awareness of their impending path and journey into mental health difficulties. I was impacted by BPD in regards to its more challenging behaviours to the therapist, who may be dealing with a client existing between borderline and psychotic worlds. I will explore the application of two theoretical approaches, namely humanistic and cognitive behavioural in relation to these mental health disorders. I will also demonstrate the importance of cultural difference in relation to understanding mental health issues and I will highlight the role risk assessment plays in the provision of supports for clients and the therapists. I will also demonstrate the importance of supervision and record keeping and I will conclude the essay with a brief summary of my key learning, including my understanding of limitations and challenges facing me within the psychotherapeutic relationship. PSYCHOPATHOLOGY A helpful understanding of what pathology is and one that I agree with was suggested by Stirling, who contributed that psychopathology is, ‘The scientific study of abnormal behaviour. As such it differs from both clinical psychology and psychiatry which respectively focus on behavioural and medical management of mental disorders’ Stirling J, 2013 ,p.1. This commentary gives......

Roles

...Role and Functions of Law The functions and roles of law in modern law, constitutional law, statutory law, common law, or administrative law can be complex and confusing to anyone who does not study law. It is imperative to any business owner that they gain an understanding to the rules and principles of laws that govern the affairs of their business. Society as a whole must have a basic understanding of the rules and principles of laws that govern our everyday lives. The supreme law of the United States is constitutional law and it establishes the structure for federal and state laws. The hierarchy of law begins with constitutional law followed by federal statutes and international agreements, federal administrative law, federal common law, state constitution, state statutory law, state administrative law, and state common law. Laws of the United States create duties, obligations and rights that reflect accepted views of its society. Most of society view law as a mechanism that controls crime and levies punishment for violation of those crimes. Businesses have a much broader view of law and are must adhere overwhelming number of federal and state governmental regulations. Because of the complexity of laws that we must adhere to as ordinary citizens or business owners it is imperative that we seek proper legal representation. Being employed by a federal organization requires me to adhere to laws that are separate from civilian law. In the military Service Members must......

Sage 50 Control Report

...Sage 50 Controls Report Summary 1. Adding a high amount of money to a paycheck. Sage 50 allowed me to add any amount of money to an employee’s paycheck. Even though that employee has a set salary, I was able to make his pay $9000. This is very dangerous as it can be abused by anyone who has access to sage 50. 2. Printing two checks with the same number. Sage 50 allows you to make two different checks with the same reference number. Although it does give you a warning, it allows you to go through with the two checks. This is only a moderate weakness but I believe it will be a stronger control if it outright won’t allow duplicate check numbers. 3. Allowing a negative cash receipt. Sage 50 allowed a negative cash receipt with no control. This could seriously affect numerous account balances without us knowing. I believe there should be a popup asking about the negative cash receipt. 4. Allowing overpayment. Sage 50 allowed me to receive a payment well over the invoiced amount. A customer that owed 90 dollars ended up paying me 2000. I believe there should be a popup asking if I should allow overpayment. 5. Writing a check without vendor information. This control worked as intended. Upon writing a check, I could not save it unless I gave a vendor id or name. 6. Saving an unbalanced entry. Sage 50 did not allow me to save an entry that was unbalanced. I debited cash for $450 and credited an account for $300. Upon saving, I got a popup saying......

Role of Teachers

...Teachers must meet immediate daily demands such as preparing lessons, assessing students’ performances and creating a fair and equitable classroom environment. As such, teachers have major roles and responsibilities to undertake in the classroom. Some major roles of a teacher is to educate, to guide, to correct, and to discipline the student by acting within the appropriate laws and regulations (Zirrpoli & Melloy, 2001). The word educate comes from the Latin educere, which means “to lead”. So it is the teachers’ responsibility to take up the task of leading the students to knowledge and understanding. In order to educate students, teachers need to be knowledgeable about their subject area according to Raspberry (1993). Because the more knowledgeable they are as teachers, the more effective they will be in the classroom. The teacher possessing subject-matter knowledge and instructional skill, is a professional educator like that of teachers of the Realism Theory. Moreover, the roles of a teacher in the classroom plays a vital part in the education system. In that, teachers are expected to conduct initial assessments which will help identify learners’ needs and skills in the classroom. After identifying those needs and skills, they will then be more knowledgeable of the state of their students and pursue the necessary help if needed to reinforce or diminish certain behaviours. Teachers will as well become aware of how their students learn and what motivates them to learn.......

Roles

...1.1 The role and responsibilities of a teacher /trainer can be identified by looking at the teaching and learning cycle. The main points that make up this cycle are: • Identify learner needs • Planning and preparing sessions • Delivering sessions • Assessing learning • Evaluation Taking each of these points into consideration in one’s teaching is vital and essential for effective teaching and learning. For example identifying learner needs before the start of any course or session is important because each learner is different. The latter can be done by variety of methods such as asking questions (application form, interview), review any previous reports/results. Also it is vital to determine whether the learner has any additional needs or if there are any language needs as well. Each of the points in the teaching and learning cycle impacts on one another and not to include any would mean that you are not carrying out your role to the best of your ability. As a teacher/trainer you have to be professional in your role, be prepared, be firm but fair, engage your learners, provide resources, complete and maintain documentation and understand your duty of care to your learners. For me one of the most important roles of a teacher is to evaluate and reflect on your teaching by continuously assessing the learners and asking for their feedback during or after each session. In my work we do this via a plenary after a session and though anonymous feedback evaluation......
