The health care manager has many roles and functions that must be implemented to assure the smooth running of an organization. There are four functions that health care managers use: Organizing, Planning, Controlling, and Leading. Of the four functions, I believe leading to be the most important role or function of the health care manager. The function of leading is important in keeping the organization maintained because without good leadership, the morale of employees can drop which can lead to goals not being met. Lombardi & Schermehorn (2007) states, “Leading is the process of arousing people’s enthusiasm to work hard to fulfill plans and accomplish objectives” (p. 9). Therefore it will take a manager who has excellent leadership skills to invoke employees to want to do a job well done. A strong leader will understand that not every employee is the same, that there will be criticism, and that some employees will need an extra push in order to meet the goals of the team. Moreover, a strong manager is assertive, confident, has good listening skills and able to make quick decisions based on everyday changes and in emergencies. Finally, a good manager will give their employees the tools needed to succeed. Managers should provide employees with the necessary equipment, knowledge, and resources in order to do the job, if not the job will not be completed properly (Burrese, 2010). The most significant aspect related to health care management that I want to gain by taking this class is leading and organization. Although I am a people person and believe I have what it takes to become a successful manager, I still need to get the education in knowing what exactly is expected of me as far as leadership skills. Additionally, I need to learn how to apply this skill as well…...

...Role and Functions of Law Paper Law is used in many forms throughout the nation. Many companies use law to ensure they stay in compliance with state laws, where others use it in society to function. Each person may use law in their workplace and not even know it. This essay will discuss the role of law in business and society and how I have used the role of law in my past job. In business law is often used in larger businesses to make sure the company stays in compliance with all the states laws. Large companies often keep what is called “in-house” counsel on the payroll in a position such as vice president or general counsel because of “extraordinary regulatory burdens such as complying with the securities or patent laws” (melvin, 2011, p. 7). Depending on the size of the company the general counsel may also have additional attorneys that he or she supervises. Other companies may just have a lawyer on retainer to advise them in business ventures or legal paperwork such as an acquisition. “These attorneys devote a significant amount of their professional time to advising businesses on issues such as formation, governance, labor and employment laws, regulatory agency compliance, legal transactions, intellectual property, and other legal issues important to business operations”. These lawyers focus on business and rarely perform other task. “Law firms vary greatly in size from one or just a few lawyers in a local or regional practice, to those firms that have......

It will discuss the functions and role of law in a past job. To accomplish this task I have researched three references from my reading. Define the functions and role of law in business and society. According to Melvin, 2011, “law is a body of rules of action or conduct prescribed by controlling authority, and having legal binding force.” The function and role of law is for social justice, personal freedom, and to maintain peace. Law functions to protect public order and maintain social control by resolving disputes in a peaceful manner. According to Czaja, 2013, “Laws also facilitate orderly change by spelling out acceptable processes for instituting change. Constitutional laws outline what governments can and cannot do.” Roles of law are classified in three areas, civil and criminal laws, substantive and procedural laws, and public and private laws. Civil laws are designed to compensate both society and business for losses or damages as a result of another’s conduct (Melvin, 2011). According to Melvin, 2011, “Criminal laws are for the protection of both society and business. Violation of criminal laws can result in the form of penalties such as fines or imprisonment, or both. The four major functions of management in a health care setting are planning, organizing, leading, and controlling. Leading involves implementing the plans and helping employees work effectively toward accomplishing the organizational goals. The first major function of management in a health care setting is to plan. In order for anything to be accomplished, a plan must be put into place. Planning helps a health care manger and other employees stay organized. Part of the role of being a health care manager is knowing how to plan out goals effectively. Planning is utilized to enhance the role of a health care manager because it helps to identify goals clearly (Agriculture and Rural Development, 2001). When goals are planned effectively, the amount of time needed and effort that is used for achieving those goals would be reduced. The second major function of management in a health care setting is organization. Being organized helps a health care manager stay on track with day to day goals. ...Individual Assignment: Role and Functions of Law Paper By: Johnny Rambo LAW/421 November 19, 2012 Instructor: John Arnold Laws play a major role within business’ and society in many ways and without them there would be complete chaos and many situations would take place if it were not for the laws that our state and federal agencies uphold. In this essay I will define the functions and role of law in business and society and discuss the functions and role of law in my present day job, which I military police officer for the United States Army. Laws are set so that business’ and society have to abide them to prevent chaos from happening within the business environment and local communities as well. First, laws are set in businesses so that they have rules and regulations they must follow to prevent them from taking advantage of their investors and customers as well. For example, because the market crashed due to large companies such as Enron, who lied about their financial stability, causing investors to keep dumping their hard-earned money into the owners and other stockholders of the company’s pockets. Another way law plays a large role within businesses is by preventing them from putting false advertisements out on commercials or billboards. For instance, if a company comes out with a cell phone saying that it can do a certain task and it does not that would be considered false advertisement, which could then lead to a lawsuit if pursued by the customers. ...Role and Functions of Law Paper In week one of contemporary business law, students were required to write an essay which defined the functions and roles of law in business and in society. Each student was to discuss the functions and role of law in their individual past or present job or industry while properly citing at least two references from the required reading material. Though out the course of this assignment I will attempt to do just that. There are many functions and roles of law in business and in society. “Laws regulate social behavior, which leads to a society that runs efficiently. Laws also supply ethical standards and expectations, while providing rules of conduct, measures to enforce those rules, and a means for settling disputes. Other functions of law include: peacekeeping; checking government power and promoting personal freedom; facilitating planning and the realization of reasonable expectations; promoting economic growth through free competition; promoting social justice; and protecting the environment (Mallor, Barnes, Bowers, and Langvardt).” According to Sean P. Melvin The Legal Environment of Business, Ch. 2 (2011), “The United States uses a federal system in which a national government coexists with the government of each state. An important concept underlying the federal system is that the federal government has only limited powers to regulate individuals and businesses (Sean P. Melvin, 2011).” The United States Constitution is “thought......

...HCS/325 Roles and Functions Paper By: Kristina Martin Instructor: Sharon Sauls HCS/325 Roles and Functions To be a successful Health Care manager, I believe that an important role or function would be to have good leadership and managerial skills. I also believe it is just as equally important to maintain organization, be able to communicate well through written and oral communication skills, and to remain attentive to details (Health Careers Center, 2002-2004). According to Lombardi (2207), Managers accomplish their goals through the process of organizing, planning, controlling the use of resources, leading, and through influence. Managers roles fall into three categories; Interpersonal, which involve interaction with people inside and outside an organization, Informational, involve giving, receiving, and analyzing of information, and lastly, Decisional roles, this involves using information which helps in making decisions, solving problems, and to address opportunities (Lombardi, 2007). Functions, which are important for a health care manager, include organization, planning, controlling and leading. Mastering all of these functions is important for being a great health care manager, but many do not accomplish all of these functions at one time. Most managers move from task to task, utilizing multiple, sometimes overlapping, many functions (Lombardi, 2007). Leadership is an important role in Health Care Management. Laws help resolve disputes and can act like a set of rules to abide by, it creates order in society so that the citizens know what is and is not acceptable. When people not obeying the law are moved out of society because of a court order, the citizens feel that justice was served and feel safer in their community. Law also plays an important role in business. Companies large and small rely on the law to protect their business. Laws specifically are put in place to protect businesses from lawsuit from consumers, vendors and suppliers. Not only does business law protect but it also helps generate more sales because business law is also used through contracts and agreements with other companies, vendors, suppliers etc. Agreements that are enforced keep a business stable and on track, it also acts as a......
