Revealing Myself 2 Learning about oneself is never easy. Most of the time I find myself second-guessing if what I said was true or am I trying to convince myself that it is real. During this exercise, I wanted to be as open minded and fair about my choices as possible. Of course, it was easy for me to find the wonderful things about my friends and family as well as the not so wonderful things. Have you ever noticed how easy it is to pick out other peoples flaws, but think you are the absolute best? Well, that is not the case here. I have the hardest time finding what is so great about me, pointing out my flaws have become second nature. In the exercise, I chose majority family and one of my closest friends, mainly because I have known them for either all my life or over 10 years. I noticed in the exercise majority of the similarities as well as differences focused majority on good things. I saw little to no negative words about the individuals. It seems that I see the good in people before I would see the bad in them. I think with my current situation I am taught to hunt the good stuff in everything I do. What is effective communication? “Effective communication is transmitted content received and understood by someone in the way it was intended” (Brown, 2015.) How do the constructs chosen in the exercise effect how I communicate? For starters, I am most comfortable with the people I have chosen in the exercise. Being that I know them, I am comfortable talking with them. This exercise did help with evaluating them a little deeper. Just like with anyone I know what issues to bring to who in order to get the…...

...head or a fake smile. However, I didn't want my parents’ sacrifice to go in vain. Failure is not an option, so I tried harder to persevere over that challenges such as studying, speaking without fear, reading more books and learning more from failure. I never let the fact that I am new to this language stop me. I want to be able to show family that I can be the person they always believed me to be. I’m really proud of myself because I will be the first generation in my family to graduate from high school and go on to college. Thankfully, I did well and overcame the difficulties in school. I realized that I was forged from a sense of responsibility efficiency in my learning and work. The pursuit of education has opened many paths for me and I have to improvise, adapt to the best of my ability. My parents sacrificed most of their life just for my future, and now I believe it is my duty to make up for everything they have done. Knowing that I would be the first in my family to graduate from college is what keeps me determined. Besides that, I also keep myself close to community is volunteer tutoring math in school for those students who need help in all mathematical subjects. I chose to tutor math, because I believe math is common and it occurs everywhere. I want to demonstrate that our community is comprised of those students who have tripped but then got back up as fast as they could to change the future. I would love to see people succeed with a smile on their face. I am......

...few months before she convinced my father to drive me back to Mississauga and drop me off on my mothers door step without so much as a phone call. At the age of sixteen I was once again back in the country I never felt comfortable in and quickly started smoking cigarettes to try and fit in with some of the other boys in my neighborhood soon I graduated to smoking marijuana and found a new confidence in myself, it seemed when I was under the influence I was funny and always the center of attention and people seemed to actually want to hang out and spend time with me. I dropped out of school half way though my eleventh year a got job as a plumber's apprentice and enjoyed traveling to different work sites throughout Ontario. I worked there for several years and bought my first car a nineteen ninety eight Monte Carlo Z thirty four. I absolutely loved that car and did a lot of customization's to it from the wheels to the windows and an amazing after market stereo system with two twelve inch sub woofers and a thousand watt amp. Unfortunately I was driving to get coffee for myself and my boss one day and a Mississauga Tranist bus pulled out right in front of me and the car got totaled and even though it wasn't my fault I couldn't afford the three hundred plus insurance they wanted from me after so I decided to move back to the United States. My grandparents left me move in to get on my feet but shortly after my grandfather passed away and I decided to stay with my grandmother......

My husband and I always spend our holidays to go to new places whether it's in our country or to go abroad. I took Psychology Counselling while I was in University. After I graduated, I work as a Counsellor in Juvenile Centre which is been under Social Welfare Department for about 5 years. I love my job because it gives me a lot of experiences and shows me a different range of life backgrounds and human behaviours specifically for the youth. All these experiences are useful to myself and make me realize how I should be grateful for having a nice and loving family. However, sometimes I've had a hard time since there are a lot of challenges as well. But even so, I've tried to look in a positive side, because I know dealing with human isn't an easy thing. In order to improve my work performance and myself, I believe there are still many things I have to learn, and need to strive for having a better life in the future....

...come over here, I need you”. That was when everything changed. When I first came to California in 2002, I didn’t really have any thoughts of what American life would be like. As a five year old the only thing in my head was how huge the plane was, and how small our house was compared to the one we had back home. The first day in school was a shock. I hadn’t seen so much diversity in one area before. Then came the comments and misinterpreted information that came from the students, which hit me off balance. This was a shock to me hearing all these rumors and stereotypes about where I had come from. “Do you live in a hut? How do you hunt lions? Or can you catch a cheetah?” I had no idea how to take this in. I was confused. I questioned myself with the same questions. Do I really hunt lions? I came home and I told my mom what had happened at school and all of the comments the kids made. I was surprised at her reaction. She laughed and smiled at me, repeating the same questions in a humorous matter. She then kissed me on the head and told me it would be okay and that they’re just curious. Years passed and I was middle school. The comments and stereotypes intensified. At this point I had to go with the flow and entertain the people and agree with the fact that I hunt lions and run down cheetahs, with the intent to shut them up. It backfired, they took my sarcasm as the truth and that was a negative influence in my life. I had a passive nature and the lack of confidence in......

The Revealing of a Monster

...limbs’, ‘deep red eyes’ and ‘sharp, knife-like fangs’. This should have convinced me to stay away from the woods, yet I still found myself already about two miles past the splintered fence that separates the old town from the looming darkness of the trees. My watch read 7:30 PM and I knew I should head back. The sun was beginning its descent for the day and it would soon be pitch black. As I turned to leave a ferocious wind took my hat. I ran after it. When i was finally able to dive onto my hat I realised I didn’t know where I was. There was no longer a path-like opening in the trees. I was in the middle of a circle of trees so tall that not a single ray of sunlight reached the mossy ground where I stood. I was engulfed in darkness. The stillness of the woods that at first mesmerized me, now sent an eerie chill down my spine. But the bone-rattling silence was soon replaced by the moaning of the wind as it hit my frozen cheeks. I saw movement behind me and all my instincts told me not to look, to just accept my fate and close my eyes but I couldn’t. I reluctantly turned my head to stare into the dark, crimson eyes which stared back at me with a sickening hunger while it’s long tail wagged slowly back and forth. It’s arms hung loosely, almost reaching the ground below. I stood frozen until the terrifying wolf-like creature smiled with an open mouth, revealing it’s brown, decaying canines. It swayed towards me and I knew then that there was no hope. The drooling monster got......

...My Self Description My name is John Smith, and I am a senior at Frederick Douglass High School. I am a good student with a 3.4 grad point average. The university that I want to attend is Georgia Tech because I want to be a civil engineer and there are many reasons why I should be enrolled. Firstly, I am a hard working and dedicated student. Secondly, I am a friendly, sociable person. Finally, I have condemned myself to be a success. Primarily, I am a hard working and dedicated student. I’ve always put my best in everything that I’ve done academically. I am not the type of person who gets put up to a big challenge and backs down. I will always rise to the peak of my production and accomplish my goal. For example, I was one of the few selected out of many to participate in the Semester Abroad program with APS. I had to be interviewed in Spanish and I had to be able to respond in Spanish. Moreover, I am a friendly, sociable person. Everyone who knows me can attest to that. I am hardly ever in a bad mood that would take me to the point of being rude or inconsiderate to someone else. Just about everyone I meet I am able to get along with. I am never disrespectful to my elders or people of authority. I try to greet everyone I meet with a will always rise to the peak of my production and accomplish my goal. The first half of my life I was living in Belize City. Then we moved to Benque, my home town, which was a very hard transition but I’m use to it already. I come from a huge family which are scattered all over Belize and some parts of the U.S and that’s just my mom’s part of the family. My dad’s family is even bigger but I don’t have a close relationship with them and I don’t know some of them since his side of the family is so large. I am a person who adores dogs especially when they’re puppies. My hobbies include watching horror films and comedy. I enjoy listening to music because it makes me focus whether I’m cleaning or doing assignments. I like to travel and doing new things and going through new experiences. Recently I tried something I never taught I would do; it was about one week after my graduation. I along with my friends planned a trip to Bocawina. There I would scratch one thing of my bucket list which is zip lining. I was so nervous and when I arrived at the platform where they were going to hook me to the line I felt my heart would fly out of my chest any moment. Finally they pushed me off and I screamed my guts out but half way through it wasn’t......

...Recently I found myself at a crossroad in life. I needed to evaluate what I really wanted to accomplish and why. Should I continue on the same path I was on or take a side trip leading to new opportunities? This paper will discuss my personal goals as they apply to my educational career, finaical goals, carrerr, goals Returning to college, as a working adult, is a challenge for anyone. Up to this point, I had been successful obtaining positions that would normally require a bachelor degree. It had become much more competitive than I ever had known. However, this presented me with the opportunity to pursue my newfound interests. This is the primary objective that I hope to meet by attending the University of Phoenix. Identifying strengths and weaknesses that will affect my success as a student requires more examination. ...THEME: DISCOVERY TOPIC: A trip to remember Now I’m 16 turning 17, but the September 11th 2006 tragedy still revealed with fond memories just like Yesterday was it happened. Saturday 11th of September was a beautiful morning; the rhythm of the morning roosters’ songs swiftly alarmed everyone at home to rise. The trees gladly doing the hula and the scent of the mohokoi’s aroma woke me to meet the morning rays. Hi Paulo! Gladly good morning from the neighbour, good morning Mrs Hansen! I replied. What’s with the happy face? Don’t you remember it’s your birthday? She said, there was no word from myself but replied with a facial question mark on my forehead, meaning how on earth she know and remembered my birth date but not my parents?. I turned around and entered the house with full surprise when everyone hugged and cuddled me with a loud tone of happy birthday. I started to cry but somehow felt weird because there was something else that stuck in my mind that stopped me from showing everyone else how grateful I am. Come on buddy, cheer up because today will be remembered, dads said hurry up and pack your stuff because we are going to Mounu Island in few minutes. I packed my stuff while my brother and sisters helped Fiona my mom in the kitchen. Five minutes before we leave, the lady from the neighbour called mom where to put the birthday cake. In no minute, I rushed to the kitchen to ask mom why the lady is here but I couldn’t because she was already there. After a while, dad......

...stronger. I never thought much about it myself, until I was faced with the shock, and undeniable truth of my cousin's death. I don't think anyone really thinks about tragedy until they are actually faced with shocking news. In evening, my mom was interrupted by a phone call from my auntie. The conversation was very serious and my mom started crying. She tearfully asked, "Is he ok? Was he alone?" I was thinking my cousin went riding and fell off from a motorbike or that something had happened to my auntie. My mom kept on saying “OH MY GOD, NO". My little brother asked, “What happened? What is going on?” And then my mom told us Aiman, my cousin was in a motorcycle accident just now and he didn't survive. I felt as if I was paralyzed, I felt that if I moved it would be real. I just had this blank look on my face. I had no reaction at first and I wanted to deny it, all of it. I kept saying to myself, no it is not true. To my complete horror I was wrong. In five years, I see myself as a valued employee of a company. I want to be an expert at my position and start training to be a manager. In five years, I want to be a senior event planner. I want my expertise to directly impact the company in a positive way. My goal is to become a lead in five years. Although not everyone gets promoted to this level, I believe I can achieve this goal through hard work. I want to continue gaining experience, and after learning many different aspects, I see myself I a management....

...have an orchid. I did what he told me to and then when I opened my eyes, my Dad gave me an white orchid. It was beautiful and we did this every time we went to the church. I know that this is not really an amazing story, but it’s special to me. What can I say? I was just a kid and kids believe almost everything adults say. I think that was the moment when I started to believe in God. Back when I used to follow my beliefs in God, I did everything what Christian people do. I went to the church every Sunday, prayed to God and be a good person. Those are the most Commons things that people who are Christian in my country do. However, at this moment, I just try to be a better man not only for everyone but also for myself. I don’t go to church and pray to God anymore. I don’t know and don’t care if my action is a sin or not, as long as I’m a good person, I’m okay with it. I used to read the Bible a lot. I read them before going to bed every night. Sometimes, I just sat quietly in front of a picture or a statue of God. Sometimes, I prayed to him for the thing I want such as toys and good grades at school. For now, I don’t do any of those thing anymore. I guess the reason I did those thing back then was because my parents told me to. I do know a little bit about the Bible, but mostly about the New Testament. The priests form my church talked about the Bible almost all the time, so I’m quite familiar with it. However,......

...My name is Pamela and I am 18 years old, I just recently graduated from my hometown high school in May of 2011. I chose to get my degree online because I work 2 jobs to support myself since I have neither of my parents and I’ve had to raise myself. The reason that I’m trying to get my degree is for my older brother to be proud of me he is the one person that has showed me that it can be done being a sergeant in the army and recent grad from college with his new profession of a police officer showed me that it can be done, and as he said himself it can be done. I also chose it so I can be a role model to my 14 year old brother and we can lead him to the right path. I currently work at a pharmacy and in the day I take care of my nieces but I will be starting to work at a hospital as a patient access representative. I feel like everything happens for a reason and well I wasn’t entirely sure of doing an online program at the beginning. So one day when I was out job hunting a advertising for the University of Phoenix came up and that’s when I decided to give them a call. That’s when I met my advisor Kim and we instantly clicked, and that’s how started school at the University of Phoenix. I chose the medical field profession because it has always been a passion of mine and I really feel that I can help people everything about the medical field profession fascinates me and keeps more motivated to keep going. Well that’s my story....
