Reflection Assignment #1
1. I have taken the opportunity to expand my mind into the larger world of marketing through marketing and recruitment projects. I recognized that the lack of knowledge and experience in Canada workplace would be a professional challenge I will face during my internship. Time and stress management also are problems if I try to do multitasking without effective management. They are engaged with my daily tasks. To solve these problems, I believe that I can make up my lack of knowledge and working experience by learning from my colleagues, ask and practice, improve research skills and communications skills, go out with friends to know and share experiences in work as well as personal life.
2.
I discuss and contact with my mentor, my colleagues frequently by mail, in person anytime I have some questions to ask them, or when I feel unclear about what I am supposed to do.
I can use my work computer at VIU and my laptop using Internet to contact with customers/ clients, attended the campus tour as member with Chinese high school student when they visited VIU. When I do not know whom I should contact with to know about detailed information, I can ask Director’s assistance or anyone I meet up in the office.
3. There are some differences between VIU or Canada workplace culture and environment and Vietnam companies I have worked for. The first difference is that how people communicate. Vietnamese people would prefer to speak indirectly while Canadian would like to get straight to the point. I tried to speak out my opinion, but I still think of Vietnamese language when I was talking to my mentor and colleagues. I need to practice more in English and try to understand the requirement clearly. In Vietnam, officials would like to go out for a dinner, and then go to a karaoke restaurant to sing. Time is unlimited, the invitation can…...

Week 1 Reflections Paper

...Week 1 Reflection Paper Thou shall not kill! Thou shall not steal! Two of the most universally accepted “laws” which have been handed down over the years. These are called Natural Laws which “refer to a body of principles and rules imposed upon individuals by some power higher than man-made law and therefore considered to be uniquely fitting for and binding on any community of rational beings.” (Inciardi, 2010) Natural Laws are the building blocks of the modern criminal justice system. The Code of Hammurabi is a perfect example of Natural Law effecting the legal system. Most of the current code of laws are based on the Code of Hammurabi since the Code of Hammurabi is the first known legal document. The Code of Hammurabi is most notably remembered for the “eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth.” It gives a crime and the punishment for the crime. Many of the 282 crimes are Natural Laws passed on from religious texts. Most industrialized countries have laws that cover the basic Natural Laws in their criminal justice system. The basis of modern society can also be traced back to Natural Laws. If a person commits the offense of rape, murder, or any other of the many violent crimes, then he or she is held accountable and punished accordingly to that crime. It generally does not matter what country you were in if you commit one of these crimes. In the end, it is generally met with a harsh punishment for a heinous crime. In a nut shell, Natural Laws are religious......

Reflection 1

...Reflection Paper Bachelor of Science in Psychology (crisis Counseling) THEOLOGY 104 I thought I knew a lot about being a Christian that lives for Christ but this class has proven me wrong. Theology 104 has given me a greater understanding of what it means to be a true Christian and most importantly studying God’s word. I will be addressing two topics that I feel are essential to Christian living, and they are love and worship. Christianity is built on love and we are called to give God all that we are. Love Theological Definition: The bible indicates that love is from God. It actually stated that “God is Love” (1John 4:8); therefore his nature is love, and everything he does flows from his love. God’s love is considered to be agape love and its origin is Greek; Agape is said to be selfless, sacrificial, unconditional love, and “the highest of the four types of love in the bible” (Zavada). Agape perfectly describes the kind of love Jesus Christ has for his Father and for humankinds; Jesus said, “Greater love has no one than this but he that lay his life down for his friend,” (John 15:13). Love is caring in action Biblical Foundation: Love is caring in action, and what we do; it is not base on our feelings. The book of first John says “beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God.  He who does not love does not know God, for God is love” (4:7, 8). From the bible, we know that God’s nature is love;......

Reflection Assignment

...to: from: subject: Reflection Assignment X-571 date: March 5, 2011 ------------------------------------------------- First and foremost I would like to thank you, Professor, and the KD team for such a wonderfully challenging week. The week not only reinforced my motivation to get my MBA at Kelley but, it also confirmed why I am actually working towards this degree. The biggest gap between my undergraduate education and my professional role currently is my tunnel vision. Being an accounting and finance undergrad major and having worked in “back-office” functions since graduation, I have always been very detail oriented and focused on the minutia of operations. As I progress on the career ladder, I want to develop a more holistic view of the business place. I know the Kelly program can develop the view for me. I want to advance my strategic skills, marketing skills, negotiating skills, and especially forecasting skills. I have realized I have difficulty seeing the big picture and that is necessary in management. My realizations were solidified when I took part in the Granola Project. During the project, I was very comfortable with taking on the financial analysis portion of our report/presentation. However I found that I was resistant to taking on a leading role, besides support research, in the other aspects. Since my overall goals are harder to measure, the gaps that I discovered while being involved in the Granola Project can be converted into more......

Unit 1 Assignment 2 Change Wheel Reflection

...Lena Cruz GS1145 Strategies for the Technical Professional Unit 1 Assignment 2: Change Wheel Reflection After moving from San Bernardino, California to Salem, Oregon, there have been many changes in my life. My boyfriend and I seem to be happier living in a nice, small town community rather than the crowded and long winded commute we once had in California. The environment here is fresh and clean, and the people nicer. We do miss the food in California, but other than that we are happier here in Oregon. My two change wheels have acknowledged technology as a major factor in how I view the world and how it applies to my life. I have always loved technology and wanted to finish my degree pursuing my passion. I loved Michigan Technological University and it has been hard to find a similar institution with a developed Networking program. I have tried finishing my degree at University of Hawaii West Oahu, but their program and the long, arduous commute between University of Hawaii West Oahu and Honolulu Community College made the experience unfavorable to an ideal learning environment. I felt that ITT Technical Institute can give me a similar experience to what I once had at Michigan Tech, and will allow me to finish my degree. It’s been about 3 years since I have been to school, but I feel prepared and eager to learn. This quarter has given me classes that I have already experienced. Although I am unhappy with the outcome, I feel that I do need the refresher courses......

Process Reflection Week 1

...Process Reflection: Standard 1 Ronald Hill Grand Canyon University: EDA 534 July 30, 2014 Process Reflection: Standard 1 Working with team Green and unwrapping the ISLLC Standard 1 was an enormous learning experience for all team members involved. Everyone on the team is positive and motivated to be successful. There were a few issues to overcome, however I see this as process of practice in becoming an educational administrator. The first issue to overcome was just figuring out who was in our group, and somehow communicating with each other. Out of the four people in our group, no one had taken an online course that required Collaborative Learning Groups. Once the team members were identified, it was a just a matter of communicating to get the assignment rolling. The group used emails, text messaging, and the discussion forum to communicate with each other. How to divide the assignment up among group members was another issue the group had to overcome. Once we decided the part that each group member would complete, each member completed his or her part and submitted as his or her part of the final assignment. When a portion of the assignment was published, each group member would give their thoughts, ideas, and opinions on any changes that might need to be made. In order for this to work, all members agreed that critiques or criticism must be made in a positive manner. In conclusion, this was an awesome learning experience for a first assignment. Having......

Week 1 Reflection

...Week 1 Reflection Jonathan Guerrero MGT/230 Week 1 Reflection According to class in week 1 we discussed different ways to be in charge as a manger or in management. We learned the four functions of the management process, division of labor, critical thinking, and communicating clearly and affectively. The first week of class really reflect the many functions of being a manager or using these tools to become a manager. Using critical thinking helps to analyze and make decisions. We learned to use critical thinking to make a decision on impulse but to not make an impulsive action. The actions are to be delegated by management and needs to be communicated clearly and affectively. Parts of using critical thinking we also use the division of labor in management. This involves assigning tasks to workers, using a chain of command, and using a line of authority. In class we discussed the four functions of the management process. The four functions are planning, organizing, leading, and controlling. “Planning is specifying the goals to be achieved and deciding in advance the appropriate action needed to achieve goals” (Bateman & Snell, 2010 pg15). In planning it provides the foundation for other functions. It is an ongoing process and it’s a decision process that allocates assets. Organizing is the management function of assembling and coordinating human, financial, physical, informational, and other resources needed to achieve goals. Examples of organizing are......

Nt1310 Unit 7. Assignment 1. Reflection, Refraction and Optics

...On this assignment, I will explain reflection, refraction, and Optics. Refraction is the change in direction of a wave due to a change in its transmission medium. This is most commonly observed when a wave passes from one medium to another at any angle other than 90° or 0°. Refraction of light is the most commonly observed phenomenon, but any type of wave can refract when it interacts with a medium, for example when sound waves pass from one medium into another or when water waves move into water of a different depth. One real example is when you stick your hand in a pond or a lake, and it looks as if your forearm has been bent. Reflection is the change in direction of a wavefront at an interface between two different media so that the wavefront returns into the medium from which it originated. In computer science, reflection is the ability of a computer program to examine and modify the structure and behavior of the program at runtime. Reflection also occurs at the surface of transparent media, such as water or glass. An optical fiber is a flexible, transparent fiber made of extruded glass or plastic, slightly thicker than a human hair. It can function as a waveguide, to transmit light between the two ends of the fiber. The degragation of signal strength can be caused by light scattering, molecular level irregularities in the glass structure, and UV-Vis-IR absorption. Unit 8 Assignment: 1 Written Reflection on Our Interview

...Unit 8 Assignment:1 Written Reflection on Our Interview After conducting my interview, I can say that I walked away from this experience with many a lesson learned. The first lesson that I learned was that after choosing a person to interview, then asking that person, most will jump on the defensive and ask “about what”. This is due to the fact that most people are usually pressed for time. They initially want to know how long this process will take without ever stopping to realize that the length of most interviews is dependent upon how long it takes for the interviewee to answer the questions that are asked. Another reason is because most will be curious about the nature of the interview, meaning what questions will be asked. This response I received tells me that people in general do not like discussing certain subjects. Some of these subjects include race, religion, and politics. These two topics are considered to be in the “No Go Zone” of interviews based entirely on their nature to insight the greatest of arguments. Another lesson I learned while conducting my interview is that most people have never been interviewed in the first place. This fact will show when the person being interviewed starts to give one word answers to questions asked. This actually happened though I informed the person that the purpose for the interview I was conducting was to gain a better insight on the subject! Lastly, I learned that when conducting the...

Reflection Paper #1

...Reflection Paper #1 WOMST: 105 3/1/2013 Reflection Paper #1 This semester so far in Woman Studies I have been able to recognize multiple high level complex ideas. This has included point of views we have read about and talked about during class. Some of the ideas that I have been reflecting on is the idea of hegemonic views that society has conformed to, also something that I have been thinking about while in class was the video we watched over Intersexe people and how they wanted to go about identifying their gender and sex roles. One specific reading that really got me involved in class was “From Servitude to Service work”. In general while in class I have seen a lot of ideas and point of views that I can relate to and some view points that confuse and frustrate me. When we started talking about hegemonic ideas. We learned how hegemonic is when a set of beliefs become “common sense” within the general society. We learned how hegemonic ideas include the way we think about sex and gender. This idea is that there are only two sexes- male and females. Society and its beliefs have encouraged its population to not allow intersexed people as sex types. I understood that there were more then 2 types of sexes because there are those situations where a baby is born irregularly. And the idea that there are only two sexes made me understand that it might only be based on what the society thinks is normal. I also think that in depth most people could understand the......

Reflection 1

...Reflection 1 First off, I wanted to give a little background about my internship and the Lexington County Blowfish. The Lexington County Blowfish are a collegiate summer ball team in South Carolina. The Blowfish organization is part of the well-known Coastal Plain League. The Coastal Plain League has quickly grown to be one of the premier summer collegiate baseball leagues in the country. The CPL prides itself on creating a professional, minor league-like atmosphere for all its players, coaches, umpires, and fans each and every summer. Also, the Coastal Plan League ranks high in the eyes of Major League Baseball and its scouts. In fact, the CPL is considered one of the top 5 leagues in the nation. Everyone honors the CPL in the same echelon as the historic Cape Cod league. As for the Blowfish, the team actually just moved away from downtown Columbia near the University of South Carolina into a brand new stadium this summer. By moving to a suburban and a more family oriented environment, the Blowfish have been setting the pace in fan attendance this summer in the CPL. With the drastic improvements in fan recognition, the Blowfish organization has needed as much help as ever from interns. The organization even opened a brand new store in downtown Lexington to securely plant the brand identity in the city of Lexington. Other than the owner, the general manager, and the finance administrator, there are around twenty interns running the show for the Blowfish. I honestly do......

Business Ethics Reflection Assignment

...XMGT/216 BUSINESS ETHICS REFLECTION ASSIGNMENT One ethical dilemma that a co-worker encountered was one that involved himself and his brother. Both were employed at the same law firm but worked within different divisions. The older brother would take longer unapproved lunch breaks which violated the attendance policy set in place by the firm. He compromised his brother by asking him to forge his signature on the lunch log in sheet which again violates the attendance policy. This situation was brought to the attention of the supervisor by another employee and at that point an investigation began. The younger brother was brought in first and asked if he knew that his brother was taking longer lunch breaks and forging his timesheet. Of course he protected his brother and lied about the situation saying he knew nothing of the sort. It was very hard for the company to prove his knowledge of the situation since they were given second hand information from another employee. Next the older brother was brought in and he told the truth but said his brother knew nothing about what he was doing. In the end the older brother resigned and the younger brother remained employed for the firm. In my opinion the decision for the younger brother to agree and go along with violating the company’s rules was unethical and morally inappropriate. The family relationship between the two brothers made it difficult for him to not agree to help. As a responsible adult who very well......
