QNT 351 Week 1-4 DQ,
How would you define dependent and independent variables? What is their significance in research? Explain with examples.
Independent variables are the variables that are manipulated to then analyze the effect on the dependent variable. Although, there is not necessarily manipulation of the independent variable but allows for breaking them into groups that fit into specific properties for the study. An example I found to explain this a little clearer is a study of white cell count between the two genders. There is not a manipulation, but the independent variables are male and female and the dependent variable (what is measured) is the white blood cell counts of the genders (StatSoft Electronic Statistics Textbook, 2012).
An example from a previous class would be studying childhood obesity and the relationship to fast-food restaurants close to their school. The independent variable would be the fast-food restaurant in proximity to the school and the dependent variable would be the classifications of the children (normal weight, overweight, obese).
The important of dependent and independent variables is the ability to study if and/or how much of an effect the independent variable has on the dependent variable. In the example I provided the study was to determine if fast-food restaurants in close proximity to schools has an effect on obesity…this allowed the individuals conducting the study to analyze the dependent variables of the different weight classes of the children to determine if and/or how much the independent variable has on the children.

The third pillar is charity to the poor, in order have a more balance society Muslims are required to donate a certain percentage of their total income to the poor and in their everyday life they are expected to help out the poor by acts of generosity and charity. The fourth pillar is fasting during Ramadan which means that every year in the month of Ramadan all Muslims abstain from food, drink and sexual relations from dawn until sundown as a form of purification. The last pillar is the annual pilgrimage to Mecca and it is an obligation once in a lifetime and the only individual that are not expected to do this pilgrimage are the ones that can’t afford to do so or......

Qnt 351 Week 1 Paper

...Statistics in Business QNT/351 Statistics in business The purpose of this essay is to examine the purpose of statistics in business. Our text, Lind (2011) defines statistics as “The science of collecting, organizing, presenting, analyzing, and interpreting data to assist in making more effective decisions” (p.5). Types and levels of statistics There are two major types of statistics, descriptive and inferential. Descriptive statistics is defined by Lind (2011) as “methods of organizing, summarizing, and presenting data in an informative way” (p.6). An example of descriptive statistics would be a high school report showing that it had 300 graduates in 1990 and 450 graduates on 1991. The information that they provided described the amount of graduates that they had for each year. Inferential statistics is defined by Lind (2011) as “the methods used to estimate a property of a population on the basis of a sample” (p.7). If the same high school sent out a report showing the graduate numbers for 1999- the present to estimate the number of graduates that they would have for this school year, those statistics would be inferential because they are used to estimate future outcomes. There are four levels of statistical data: nominal, ordinal, interval and ratio. The nominal level deals with qualitative variables such as colors and blood types that can only be counted and classified. Ordinal data measurement is a variable rating system that ranks data......

For the human resource frame, I scored 20. For the political frame, I scored 14. For the symbolic frame, I scored 13. I scored low in the structural frame. According to our textbook, “A low score may mean a blind spot,” (Weiss, 2011, p.154). This means that I would most likely not flourish in a bureaucratic-type culture. I find it odd that I would score so low on the structural frame as I really enjoy procedure and structure in my personal and work life. I scored highest in the human resource frame. I really appreciated scoring high in the human resource frame as my minor is in human resources. It asks for the names of all employees, who have used the pirated software in order to prosecute them for criminal copyright infringement. The Director of Human Resources also informs you that, in dealing with the Adobe problem, IT has also determined that a few employees were accessing pornographic web sites, including those showing child pornography? To add insult to injury, the Office Manager has also informed you that there is a constant drain on office supplies, especially just before school opens in the fall and in late January. ...PSYCH 515 Week 1 DQ 4 To Buy This material Click below link http://www.uoptutors.com/PSYCH-515/PSYCH-515-Week-1-DQ-4 Alternative Perspective on Mental Illness Theoretical perspectives can influence the labels that are used to describe the individuals that clinicians treat. Many psychologists prefer to call the people they treat clients instead of patients because the term patient has a sick connotation. Likewise, some clinicians prefer to treat problems in living rather than mental illnesses or mental disorders. While these terms might seem like mere semantic distinctions, they have political and sociocultural implications. One label that is often used in the treatment of severe mental disorders is that of disease. I find it important to remember that the disease perspective is but one perspective among other competing models. Some theorists and clinicians would argue against this perspective, or at least delimit some disorders to the realm of disease (e.g., dementia) and others to realm of behavioral disorders (e.g., ADHD). Once upon a time, many years ago, my psychopharmacology professor (an MD psychiatrist) made the comment that, many clinicians treat anxiety as if it was a Valium deficiency. Fast forwarding to the current day, perhaps we can say that depression is frequently treated as if it was a Prozac (or Pristiq) deficiency. My point is this: When medical treatments are used to treat mental disorders, these disorders are easily classified as medical diseases. This...

...PSYCH 540 Week 4 DQ 1 To Buy This material Click below link http://www.uoptutors.com/PSYCH-540/PSYCH-540-Week-4-DQ-1 PSYCH 540 Week 4 DQ 1 Case Studies and Small-n Experimental Studies Chapter 10 of our text (Shaughnessy, Zechmeister, & Zechmeister, 2009) focuses on a SPECIFIC type of methodology. It uses only one participant (case study) or one subject (small-n single-case experimental study).Whereas the case study is a descriptive design, small-n studies study one subject (usually) but within experimental design methodology. This means case studies are a description of something (they are qualitative research because they do not attempt to analyze data with numbers). Single case experimental designs, on the other hand, are a regular experimental design BUT using only one subject or a small number of subjects or one group that is treated as one subject. To illustrate this, how about going to the library in one of the psychological databases (e.g. Proquest, PsycINFO, etc.) or going to Google Scholar and finding an article that reports on either a case study or a small-n experimental design study? Share with us a brief synopsis of the article and a reference so we can all look it up if it’s of interest, or a link to the article. What was the value of the study? How did it help the field of psychology and its knowledge base? I hope some of you at least will choose to do this little project so we can use them as starting points for discussions about these two......

...PROJ 410 Week 4 DQ 1 To Buy This material Click below link http://www.uoptutors.com/proj-410/proj-410-week-4-dq-1 The formulation of evaluation criteria has long-lasting implications throughout the life cycle of a contract. The result should be picking the right seller for the contract. In fact, the development of evaluation criteria has often been debated to be one aspect of contract procurement that needs to be closely coordinated with both the contract administrator and project manager. What are your thoughts on the role that the contract manager should have in the development of evaluation criteria? What about the project manager? Who else should be involved in establishing and applying the evaluation criteria? It is very common to find customers/clients that fail to identify the RFP evaluation criteria during the procurement planning process, and in fact do not define the evaluation criteria until after proposals have been received and the evaluation process is set to begin. What do you think the risk of waiting is until bids have been received to establish the evaluation criteria to be used to select a preferred vendor? Do you think that clearly defining the evaluation criteria as part of the procurement process also locks in the Client to making his/her selection based on the specific criteria identified, thus reducing the potential for a client making a selection purely on subjective criteria (even through the ranking of proposals on a pre-defined set of criteria...

Week 4 Qnt 501

...Michael Rathburn Week 4 QNT 501 – Individual Assignment Dr. Louis Daily January 22, 2009 In the following situations, decide whether you would use a personal interview, telephone survey, or self-administered questionnaire. Give your reasons. a A survey of the residents of a new subdivision on why they happened to select that area in which to live. You also wish to secure some information about what they like and do not like about life in the subdivision. For the new subdivision, I would recommend that a telephone survey is used because it is relatively cost efficient, the sampling pool is probably full of people that are at home during the same time in the day, and it would allow the residents to share their personal preferences about the subdivision. Also, because there is not a standard set of desired answers, the telephone interview would be the most effective data collection method. When compared to either personal interviews or mail self-administered surveys, the use of telephones brings a faster completion of a study, sometimes taking only a day or so for the fieldwork. When compared to personal interviewing, it is also likely that interviewer bias, especially bias caused by the physical appearance, body language, and actions of the interviewer, is reduced by using telephones. Finally, behavioral norms work to the advantage of telephone interviewing. If someone is present, a ringing phone is usually answered, and it is the caller who decides the purpose,......
