PSY 250 Week 1,
In determining personality there is much more that meets the eye. During my first week of this course this was something that became evident. Personality is a science in itself. It is used to measure why people are the way they are. In analyzing my own personality I in turn am beginning to have a better understanding of who I really am.
How would you define personality?
Personality can be described in many different ways. “According to the definition by Henry Stack Sullivan, an influential 20th century psychologist, personality is the emerging relational patterns between two people” (Mayer & Korogodsky, 2011). I personally would define psychology as a number of specific character traits combined to form a specific way of being and communicating.
What are some key personality features that define you?
The eight basic aspects of personality are perspective, psychonanalytic, ego, biological, behaviorist, cognitive, trait, humanistic, and interactionist. (Friedman & Schustack, 2011). To fully understand one’s key personality features. In determining my own key personality features these aspects must be considered. I am innately shy, somewhat introverted, and a people-pleaser. I think these three features are key in defining my own personality.
What are some key concepts or constructs used to explain your personality?

However they also maybe revised to meet today’s society. We will be talking about six different historical laws which are The Code of Hammurabi, Draco’s Law, and Law of the Twelve Tables, Justinian Code, Magna Carta, and Statute of Westminster. The Law Code of Hammurabi (1750 B.C.) created by King Hammurabi, which was discovered in 1901. Also the quote “an eye for an eye” symbolizes the Hammurabi code. Psy 480 Week 1

...Examination of Clinical Psychology PSY/480 Examination of Clinical Psychology Clinical psychology is a profession that focuses on helping individuals with various troubles and concerns they experience during their relationships, emotions, and physical selves. One example of what a clinical psychologist can do is to see if a child has a learning disability or an attention problem that might contribute to poor school performance by using intellectual and educational tests (Plante, 2011). In this paper, the history of clinical psychology will be examined as well as its role of research and statistics. In addition, clinical psychology will be furthered examined and how it differs from other mental professions such as social work, psychiatry, and school psychology. The field of clinical psychology was founded in 1896 by Lightner Witmer (1867–1956) who opened the first psychological clinic at the University of Pennsylvania. In 1888, Witmer completed his undergraduate studies and earned his PhD in psychology at the University of Leipzig (Plante, 2011). Further he returned to the University of Pennsylvania to become director of their psychology laboratory. He applied his principles of human behavior to help a student that was not performing well in school and as a result, found out he had trouble in spelling, reading, and memory, and recommended tutoring, which later proved to be a successful intervention (Plante, 2011). He focused on assisting children with primarily......

...to Forming Habits Duke Stevens PSY 250 November 2, 2015 Tyler Maxey Behavioral and Social Cognitive Approaches to Forming Habits Habits as defined by Merriam-Webster's Dictionary as a settled tendency or usual manner of behavior or a behavior pattern acquired by frequent repetition or physiologic exposure that shows itself in regularity or increased facility of performance. In this paper, I will analyze one of my habits, how, why, and where it was developed. Also, I will discuss the chances of continuing the habit, and attempts to break the habit. Using behavioral personality theory and components of social/cognitive theory, this paper will explain why I have this habit and why the habit was formed. I will also develop a plan applying operant conditioning to change my habit and discuss which theory best explains my personality, behavioral or social/cognitive theory. Social Cognitive Theory The social cognitive theory explains that behavior is learned by watching others do things, using the school of thought that since others are doing this behavior, one should also do this behavior to be like their peers, learning that behavior by witnessing the actual act. One example of this would be a sister and brother are playing with a new toy that requires a certain pattern of movement like a Slip N' Slide. The first sibling runs and slides down the Slip N' Slide on their stomach. The 2nd sibling observes the act, not wanting to be out done by sibling #1, and then carries out the act......

They proponent’s of psychoanalytic theories emphasize that these unconscious experiences are not without reasons. There are some inner forces that are working to direct our behaviors in some direction. Freud was the main proponent of psychoanalytic approach. The neo-Freudians such as Jung, Adler , Erikson and Horney have also major contributions. Freud’s theory of personality Sigmund Freud is a founder of this approach. One’s behavior and social interactions play highly influential part in the development of habits. Once a habit is formed it can be quite difficult to break. It requires the ability to recondition one’s self to behave differently. I struggle with a harmful habit of my own. Since the age of 14 years old I have been smoking cigarettes. Although I have managed to stop on a few occasions, ultimately I return to smoking sooner or later. I intend to analyze what caused this addiction and obtain a better understanding of why I cannot stop. Since I was a small child, I have watched both my parents smoke an innumerable amount of cigarettes. I would always tell them that smoking is bad for them and that they needed to quit. At age 12 started my rebellious phase. I did not have rules mostly and the ones that I did have were not followed. This was mostly because there were no consequences to my actions. One day while my mother was not home, I stole a cigarette from her room and decided to light up. At first I coughed of course, but then I began to like the smooth minty flavor. Soon, I began standing near the corner store and asking someone who was......

Psy/250 Week 2 Psychoanalytical Personality Assessment

...Amber Ryan/Stokes June 23, 2012 PSY/250 Michele Montgomery University Of Phoenix Psychoanalytical Personality Assessment Everybody is unique or special in one form or another and each personality has a theory. For many years psychologists have based theories upon individuals and I the writer will compare and contrast three well known psychologists Sigmund Freud, Alfred Alder, and Carl Jung. Sigmund Freud was one of the greatest psychologists in time he Alder and Jung’s theories were very similar but then again very different. Within these theories we will discuss characteristics with which I agree and disagree with, explore the stages of Freud’s theory explaining characteristics of personality using stage components and describe the uses of mechanisms using real life experiences. The hypothesis Sigmund Freud, Alfred Adler, and Carl Jung were in agreement with is that human behavior is determined by an individual’s past experiences and childhood experiences which paint his or her impression on events and the world at large. Adler believed in individual psychology, Freud believed in the theory of psychosexual development and Jung analytical psychology. Freud dichotomized three characteristics of personality to id, ego and superego. The id or “it” worships the pleasure principle its sole purpose is to satisfy desire and release tension. Our ego or “I” ordain according to the reality principle meaning we learn to adopt, plan and act to the world......
