Psy 355 Week 3 Paper

...Week 3 Paper PSY 355 Dr. Brenya Bucholski Week 3 Paper The human organism is amazing and its complexity goes beyond the tangible body itself. The cognitive functions are so fascinating to consider; the ability to emote, reason, and make decisions have drawn many into the search for a better understanding of the mind. The mind-body dualism theory is a theory that argues that the mind, also referred to as the soul, and the body are distinct from each other. This is highly regarded in many religions, such as Hinduism, that believes in reincarnation. Reincarnation requires the mind to be independent of the body and free to flow from one body to another in life after life. As psychology continues to develop as a science and with the advancements in scientific technology it brings to question how our psyche functions within this organism. Consider motivation. Does the body, specifically the brain, operate our motivation? I want to look into the motivation to exercise. What are the functions taking place that will drive a person to make the decision to exercise? Is this a function of the mind, the body, or a combination of both? Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs is a great model to illustrate the interactive nature of our mind and body. It is also a good flow chart to point out some differences between intrinsic and extrinsic motivations. In psychology, the terms intrinsic and extrinsic motivation are common. Intrinsic motivation is essentially the personal satisfaction of an......

...will hide behind the First Amendment when it serves their purpose but when it comes to our troops they will report because they feel the results produced from their report is for the greater good for the greatest number. The individual reporter justifies their actions by viewing one’s beliefs being conditioned by our society. But in actuality it is their ethical egoism (self interest) that drives them for the story, Nobel Peace Prize or the top network reporter. The following action of one reporter during a military mission is an example of his self eagerness to succeed over whatever the outcome. My Unit was tasked with a mission to clear one of Al Qaeda in Mesopotamia’s last bastions in one of Iraq’s most troubled regions. Two weeks before the mission, the battalion commander sternly ordered that every soldier was to keep it secret from family, friends and face-book. Within the first 48 hours of the operation, the battalion lost several men. One news reporter, in his rush to record the events, released information pinpointing the deaths to our unit. This reporter violated standard protocol between journalists and the military not to release any information regarding those killed in action until family members had been properly notified by the Department of Defense. This release of information only confirmed the reservations and suspicious of some in the unit regarding journalists on the front line. Not to mention the nightmare the families had to endure......

Development of Visual Motion Perception for Prospective Control: Brain and behavioral studies in infants. Frontiers in Psychology. doi:10.3389/fpsyg.2016.00100 This article explains the development of visual perception in relation to motion perception and coordinated movement in infants. It also compares the different stages of visual perception, motion perception, and reaction time across different ages. Infants as young as three weeks old show to perceive some optical collisions as can be witnessed by the blinking of their eyes. However, at two months of age, they can steadily track moving objects with their heads and eyes as they show prospective control. At three to five months, they can differentiate virtual flow displays of at least 22 degree changes in heading direction. At about six months they follow objects using predictive head and eye movement. They also predicatively navigate and aim for any moving objects of interest or desire, especially with their hands.  Franchak, J. M., Celano, E. C., & Adolph, K. E. (2012). Research Paper Outline Thomas Edison

...OUTLINE (JUNIOR RESEARCH PAPER) Intro paragraph and thesis: Thomas Alva Edison was born on February 11, 1847 in Milan, Ohio. Edison had very little formal education (only a few months learning in school) as a child because of asking too many questions and then the teacher thought he’s a dull kid. He was taught reading, writing, and arithmetic by his mother, but was always a very curious child and taught himself much by reading on his own. This belief in self-improvement remained throughout his life. Edison could probably be properly called Mr. Electricity because of the many inventions and millions of dollars that he used and invested with electricity. From the invention of the light bulb, to the invention of the phonograph Thomas Edison made electricity a reality for the masses. He sparked the movement of today's computer ran world. Among his most notable inventions are the microphone, the phonograph, the electric lamp and light bulb, and the motion picture machine. He was the first to observe that electrons are emitted from a heated cathode, which was then dubbed the "Edison Effect." Edison is no doubt considered to be one of the greatest inventors in the world because of his numerous contributions to modern technology. A scientific genius who received only three months of formal schooling, Edison registered more than 1,300 patents (exclusive rights to make, use, or sell) for new inventions during his lifetime. Topic sentence 1: Edison was an exceptional inventor...
