Advantage of Technical Colleges Students and family’s today struggle when it comes to the financial requirements and proper fit as these relate to higher education. Many families have begun to plan for their children’s future education as early as from birth. While planning ahead is always best, the cost of higher education continues to increase which tends to still leave these families struggling to provide advanced education for their children. The expense of four year colleges has placed the option of attending these institutes out of reach for most students even where advanced financial planning was in place. More and more high school graduates are exploring the option of technical schools for continued education. Technical colleges offer lower costs, smaller class sizes and more access to professors making them more appealing to transitioning students. Technical colleges provide a great economic option for young men and women that choose to continue their education beyond high school. The majority of technical schools offer a variety of degree and certificate programs which can be completed in two years or less. These programs equip the students with the ability to obtain an education or training in a short period of time providing them the opportunity for employment in their field of study. Students are able to obtain these skills in less time and for a fraction of what a four year college degree costs. Technical schools offer financial relief for the students by focusing each program’s curriculum on required courses which reduces the number of required classes; four year institutes require students to take additional electives at each education level. Focusing the student’s course schedule gives technical schools the ability lessen the cost of a student’s education. The average…...

Paper Review of "Architectural Innovation: the Reconfiguration of Existing Product Technologies and the Failure of Established Firms"

...the paper is clear and straightforward. The main argument is advanced in a logical manner, and supporting premises (such as the way organizations manage knowledge) are supported by prior literature. Within the boundaries of the paper’s assumptions, the argument is persuasive. Furthermore, the application to the photolithographic alignment (PA) equipment industry justifies the model. The trends in the industry suggest the conceptual framework is largely accurate. Nonetheless, the assumptions made limit the usefulness of the concept. Firstly, the analysis of firms’ information-processing is restricted to communication channels, information filtering and problem-solving strategies, ignoring other institutions, such as “cross-functional” product development teams, that organizations may have. Given that these may have profound impact on the development of architectural knowledge, the model cannot be applied to firms with such institutions. Secondly, assumptions of firms’ behaviours are based strictly on the Abernathy-Utterback model. As evident in the fact that some firms are able to introduce architectural innovations, not all firms focus their research and development on components within the architecture of the dominant design. The application of the model to the PA equipment industry is limited in proving the usefulness of the model. The firms in the industry are “much smaller” and there is a “much faster rate of technological improvement”. These could, in part,......

Unilever’s Surf Excel Product Review

...SUMMARY: Surf excel has been following the Unilever’s message i.e. add vitality to life. Similar is with surf excel. In the beginning Surf Excel was facing competition from Ariel, the product of P&G. but very soon with the tagline “Dirt is Good”, Surf Excel was successful in regaining its market leadership. It soon emerged back as the dominant detergent of the country. The product is decided by matching the marketing insights with the local insights. The marketing report of the brand should match the region’s attitude so that the product can fulfill and satisfy the customer’s need and expectation. The packaging is designed in such a manner that it should it is able to create a Recall value among the prospective customers. It should stand out among its competitors because majority of the purchases are impulsive buying’s. Price is decided as per the economic situation and spending pattern of the target market. Distribution pricing strategy is determined in such a way so as to suit all forms of trade (GT, LMT, and IMT) along with customer’s purchasing power. Promotion was the most important ingredient in the revival of Surf Excel. The event Paint Masti created a name of the brand. Relaunch of the Surf with the tagline “Dirt is Good” helps in differentiating the product, because all other brands are still focusing on the fact that dirt is bad. The selection of place to communicate the brand’s message is a crucial process. The team of Surf Excel chooses the......

...Product refers to the fashion items and services that a company will offer its target market. Company history may play a major role here; many firms have a long-standing record in producing specific lines. For instance, when a sportswear company may try to develop products on sports equipment but will not usually decide also to make and sell bras or evening gowns. Product element is fundamental to the fashion design industry. The continual process of new product development and resulting change drives the whole industry and answers the demand from consumers for a constant stream of new ideas and offerings. . Without the constant generation and introduction of new ideas, the concept of fashion may not exist, the seasonal fashion shows and collections may fade out. Axiomatically, if consumers were not constantly engaged in the process of looking for new products to satisfy their emerging needs, the fashion process could not function either. All of the three brands, H&M, DKNY and PRADA are at the maturity stage of the product life cycle. They all have a long brand history. Miuccia Prada designed Prada in 1988. DKNY was founded by Donna Karan in 1989 in New York. H&M was founded in 1947 in Sweden. At this stage, their products have achieved acceptance by most potential buyers. There is a slow down in sales growth in total. These companies may try to increase their advertising and sales promotion to remind and inform the public of their products and events. They can also......

...Product quality The collection of features and characteristics of a product that contribute to its ability to meet given requirements . To consumers, a high-quality product is one that well satisfies their preferences and expectations. This consideration can include a number of characteristics, some of which contribute little or nothing to the functionality of the product but are significant in providing customer satisfaction. A third view relating to quality is to consider the product itself as a system and to incorporate those characteristics that pertain directly to the operation and functionality of the product.  First is the view of the manufacturer, who is primarily concerned with the design, engineering, and manufacturing processes involved in fabricating the product.  Quality control (QC) is the collection of methods and techniques for ensuring that a product or service is produced and delivered according to given requirements. In general business, product features are all the qualities and characteristics of a product– its size, shape, materials, and its functionalities and capabilities Brand Name, term, design, symbol, or any other feature that identifies one seller's good or service as distinct from those of other sellers." [1] Packaging is the science, art, and technology of enclosing or protecting products for distribution, storage, sale, and use. ...Product The marketing mix starts with product part so in this section of the paper will be discussed what does the consumer want and need from the product, the main characteristics and features of the product and also the best ways to choose branding and packaging. Low-involvement consumers This group of consumers mostly has low income and usually buy cheaper things without extra attention before buying a product. To selling goods for low-involvement consumers there are few main important factors of consumer needs and wants from the product. First of all low involvement consumers don’t spend a lot of time thinking about which windscreen wiper has the best quality and which one has to choose - because of habitual decisions. Their primary priority is price. For that reason “50% discount” or “buy 1 and other get for free” can really attract low-involvement consumers. Other important priority is product convenience. Mostly consumers choose those products which attractively displayed and easy to find. The windscreen wipers should be in the center of the store shelves. For consumers it would be eye-catching product. Also accurate information – consumers place a high value. They have to quick and easy understand what written about the product, how can use it (simple instruction) and why this product is better than others. Anything that can be offered to a market for attention, acquisition, use, or consumption and that might satisfy a want or need. - Includes: physical objects, services, events, persons, places, organizations, ideas, or some combination thereof. What is a service? Any activity or benefit that one party can offer to another that is essentially intangible and does not result in the ownership of anything can referred as a Service. Eg: banking industry, tourism industry, Information Technology services etc. Levels of a Product ▪ Core benefit – What the consumer is really buying. ▪ Actual product – Includes the brand name, features, design, packaging, quality level. ▪ Augmented product – Additional services and benefits such as delivery and credit, instructions, installation, warranty, service. Core benefit:- Each level adds more customer value. The most basic level is the CORE BENEFIT which answers the question “What is the buyer really buying?” When designing the products, marketers must first define the core, problem solving benefits or services that consumers seek. People buying a SONY Handycam are buying more than a digital camcorder. They are buying a convenient, high quality way to capture important moments and memories. Actual product:- At this second level, product planners must turn the core benefit into actual product. They need......

...The term innovation can be defined as something original and more effective and, as a consequence, new, that "breaks into" the market or society. Any review particularly on new product development and innovation management will uncover numerous references to 3M. 3M is quite possibly the most innovative company of our times that even CEOs of other visionary companies admire. 3M is best known for its household brands such as Post-it Note, Scotchgard, Scotch tape, and many more. 3M initially failed in its mining business, and eventually stumbled onto most of the successful innovations that we know 3M for, including Post-It, Masking and Scotch tape. There are some key activities and principles that contribute to 3M’s performance which reflected in its approach to innovation namely the variety of management techniques, such as good communications and the setting of clear objectives with a company culture built on more than 90 years of nurturing idea and fostering creativity. Being an “innovating machine”, 3M institutionalized the mechanisms to drive innovation as the "15 percent rule" - technical people spend up to 15 percent of their time on projects of their own choosing or initiative, "25 percent rule" - each division should produce 25 percent of annual sales from new products and services introduced in the previous four years (which later increased to 30 percent). More growth mechanisms were created to stimulate internal entrepreneurship, test new ideas, create......

Journal Review: Cross-Cultural Challenge in Product Placement

...Fundamentally, product placement roots in the USA, which is commonly considered to be an American phenomenon, and used primarily as a movie-based tactic. To define, product placement is the deliberate placement of branded products or services within media content. For example the scene where Will Smith drink Coca-Cola in film. As a result of global flow, and access to media content and technology, the practice of product placement has become media-neutral and spread across other cultures. Due to this circumstances, there is a need to develop an expanded understanding of how non-US consumers perceive such placements. Product placement like traditional forms of advertising, transmit and reflect the important symbolic meanings and values within a culture. To add in, consumer attitudes toward product placement may also vary depending on the fundamental cultural orientations and values of a particular society. In general, there are abundant cross-cultural comparisons of advertising and promotion but little is known regarding how consumers from different cultures perceive and process product placement in their mind. Other than that, there has also been very limited knowledge on how and to what extent the medium of placement affects perceptions of the tactic. The main purpose of this research is to examine: i. US and Korean college student consumers’ attitudes towards product placements in three different media (films, TV shows, and songs). ii.......
