In the years leading up to the Boar war in the late 18 hundreds, women’s role in society was clearly defined. The ideology of the time was that a woman’s place was in the home, there was no better or more fulfilling way for a woman to spend her time than staying in the home to cook clean and raise children. Women were only educated as a means of enabling them to acquire skills that could use in the home and with there family, as this would higher there standard of living, Darwin, Sharpe (1976). Moreover, attitudes towards women’s position within the labour market were defined by such beliefs. Putting the beliefs of the time into context shows that they were interlined with class and the idea of the British race. The “ideology of domesticity” prominent in the 18hundres was as relevant to the middle class women as it was to working class women, Purvis (1987). However as June purvis has said “what was considered appropriate, relevant and unattainable for the middle classes was inappropriate, irrelevant and unobtainable for working class women, Purvis (1987). As it was, not working was economically obtainable for women in the middle classes and seen as appropriate and relevant to a woman’s social standing. However, physically exhausting jobs in poor working conditions for low pay returning to over crowded houses with little heat and no sanitation was the bleak prospect for the majority of the population. Awareness and concern grew about health among the middle classes and government alike who saw poor people as unhealthy. It was believed that keeping women at home would improve health. Women who stayed at home would be healthier as a result of not working women could have healthier babies and could cook and clean and be attentive to child rearing duties. Most of the concern at the time was centred around factory work, were in addition young females were thought to be…...

...Zachary Miksitz Period 7/8 March 8, 2012 Capulet William Shakespeare was one of the greatest play writers of the seventeenth century. He wrote many great plays that are still popular to this day. One of Shakespeare’s most famous plays is the love story of Romeo and Juliet. In Romeo and Juliet, there are two families that are fighting, the Capulets and the Montagues. Mr. Capulet, the head of the Capulet family, has many different traits like being a loving father, a good host, and being very hot-tempered. ` In the second scene of the first act, Capulet demonstrates his love for his daughter Juliet. Paris asks for her hand in marriage, but Capulet refuses to allow her to marry at thirteen and tells Paris to “Let two more summer wither in their pride/ ere we may think her ripe to be a bride” (I, ii, 10-11). When Paris protests that girls thirteen-years-olds are already mothers, Capulet replies that “… too soon marred are those so early made” (I, ii, 13). He worries that she will die in childbirth at such a young age. Juliet is Capulet’s only living child and his hope for the future. In the fifth scene of the first act, Capulet is talking to the people at his party, and he shows how much of a good host he is. He says to the women “… ladies that have their toes/ unplagued by corns until walk a bout (Dance) with you” (I, V, 15-16). Here he’s getting the women to dance by joking with them. When Romeo walks into the party, Tybalt gets very angry, but Capulet......

The details come from Japanese magazine Mac Fan, which were summarized on Tuesday by Macotakara. The report claims Apple's next-generation iPhone may sport a 1,920-by-1,080-pixel 5-inch display packing in 440 pixels per inch. It was claimed that Apple plans to make both sides of the screen as "thin as possible." That could allow the company to promote the "iPhone 6" as the first "phablet" able to be operated with one hand. The appeal of one-hand operation was already something Apple already focused on when it released the iPhone 5, sporting a larger 4-inch display, in 2012. That was an increase from the 3.5-inch......

The Scoop on Dog Poop

...The Scoop on Dog Poop Shameeka S. Hardison Grantham University The Scoop on Dog Poop One of the most disrespectful and unsanitary thing a dog owner can do is; allow their dog to urinate or defecate in someone else yard. It is very irritating to look out the window and see someone’s lawn being used as a dumping ground for feces or urine by their neighbor’s dog. This is an issue many people across the world are experiencing in their neighborhoods and fixing the problem is a must for many reasons. It is a matter of being respectful of one’s property, by not allowing your dog to conduct their business on someone else’s lawn. Owning any kind of pet comes with responsibility and liability. Picking up their feces and disposing of it properly is a must! According to the American Pet Products Manufacturers Association, 43.5 million households in the United States own a dog (Roberts, 2007). Imagine that out of all these households, only half of them cleaned up after their dogs. Some people are just plain rude or too lazy to pick up after their dogs. Most dogs will start to sniff around before they began to urinate or defecate on the lawn, so politely yank them by the collar and they will move on. Carrying around a doggie poop bag or a simple Wal-Mart bag is a must when walking dogs because exercise stimulates their need to go. Yes, it means......

...Women As News Anchors Women in all careers are striving to gain equality in the work force today, and female television news anchors are definitely part of the fight. The road to television news anchoring is a rocky one, where only a few women survive and many fail. Where progress was once thought to have been made, there aren't many females getting ahead in the world of television news. Today, there is a very slow, if any, gain in the numbers of women who succeed. There are many questions surrounding the subject of women in television news, and I will attempt to answer relevant ones in this paper. How have the women that actually make it to the top and succeed as anchorwomen, done it? What does it take to make it? Why do those few endure it/enjoy it? Why has it been and still is difficult for women? What are the expectations of women in the field, as opposed to the expectations of men? I am interested in this topic because I once aspired to become a television broadcaster. I still have inspiration in me, but not quite as much due to the negative and discouraging aspects I have heard about in classes and in the media. I am not sure that I could be happy in a career such as this, and I know there are great difficulties in "making it" in this profession. I have read about the incredible ambition of successful females in television news, and it seems like it takes a special kind of passion to want to keep up in the business. I kept my questions in mind......

Poop Study

...A thorough (and stinky) study of poop from large, plant-eating mammals has revealed that microscopic organisms inside the animals' guts have evolved at the same rate as the animals themselves. By sifting through the excrement of cows, horses, elephants, goats, sheep and other herbivorous mammals, researchers were able to analyze and compare the animals' gut ciliates - one-celled microorganisms that are especially important to the digestion process. A five-year study chronicling the excrement and gut fluids of many plant-eating mammals appears in the European Journal of Protistology, where a team of evolutionary biologists, microbiologists and computer scientists from Radboud University Nijmegen in the Netherlands reveal details of a wide range of animal droppings. The researchers make the distinction between herbivores known as "foregut fermenters" and "hindgut fermenters," the former of which digests food in the front part of its gut (the rumen) and the latter digests in the posterior part of the gut, the appendix and large intestine. Ruminant animals such as cows, goats and sheep are foregut fermenters, while horses, elephants and zebras, for example, are hindgut fermenters. The poop used in this study came from around the world, notably from goats, deer and sheep from around Europe, an Asian elephant, and zebras and an elephant from Africa. The researchers preformed a genetic analysis of the ciliates present in the animals' excrement. "Our most important discovery......

...Mike Stephan is a first-year staff auditor at Willis and Adams. Mike recently graduated with his undergraduate degree in accounting and was excited about his new job at Willis and Adams. Mike came from a smaller school that typically does not get a lot of attention from campus recruiters. Mike was pleased to get an interview and then an offer from Willis and Adams. From the beginning, Mike was impressed with the firm’s culture and he felt that it would be a great fit for him professionally. Throughout his junior year, he worked hard to reach out to the firm’s recruiters to demonstrate a sincere interest in the firm. In the end, Mike was one of only two students that Willis and Adams hired from his school. Mike believed that his school’s accounting program was quite good, but that it didn’t get the attention other nearby schools did because of its small size. He thought that if he did a good job with the firm his performance might open doors for other students from his school. EarthWear was Mike’s third engagement, and for the most part the audit had gone smoothly. However, in the middle of the audit, Mike found that he was spinning his wheels. After spending over an hour working on the bank reconciliation for the General Cash Account, he was frustrated and confused because he could not figure how to link the supporting documents to the reconciliation. Mike finally asked Roxanne Bailey, from EarthWear’s Controller’s office, to help him sort out the problem. It took Roxanne......

The Scoop on Poop

...The Scoop on Poop While most homeowners are familiar with the choice (and extra cost) of organic vs regular produce in the grocery store, they have little familiarity with the same choice of organic vs synthetic fertilizers they can use in treating their lawn and garden. In this two-part blog I will break down the differences between the two and explain the pros and cons of each. Does My Lemongrass Care? If you go to the home show and ask a booth rep selling Miracle-Gro he will extoll the virtues of synthetic fertilizer and give you a plethora of reasons why you should choose his products. Much like Farmer Ted down the road from you would love to educate you on why the truckload of chicken manure he’s got in your driveway is worth the 200 bucks he is asking you to shell out. The point is there is still a lively debate on which is better for you to use. But in most instances, the plant itself doesn’t care. A nutrient is a nutrient is a nutrient. So what gives? A Brief History of Manure Use (I mean Fertilization) Since the early beginnings of agriculture man has found that using naturally decomposing matter such as bone meal, fish carcasses, dead plant matter, and yes, animal manure, that crops grow faster, bigger, and healthier. Once farms got larger in scale and animals were used to do the heavy work manure became the fertilizer of choice for most crops. Organic fertilizer was the king because there was nothing to overthrow it. Then in the early 1840’s Justus......

...Smallwood’s net profit in 2005 was £22,000 but then it had decreased by £2,000 to £20,000 in 2006. However, in 2007 the net profit had increased by £4,000 to £24,000 in 2007, but this is an issue as the net profit should be larger than the total expenditure, and that’s the amount of money which is available to spend. The percentage of the net profit in 2005 was at 3.2% of revenue which either got disturbed to the company or investors. In 2006 the % dropped to 2.8% and then in 2007 it increased again to 3.6%. This is still an issue as in 2006 there was less money to distribute to the investors or the company but had come 2007 there was more then there has been in 2005 and 2006 to distribute out. Smallwood’s debtors in 2005 owed the company £75,000. However, this has decreased by £2,000 to £73,000 owed to the company in 2006, which shows that pavements were being made on time to the company. Although the amount owed in 2007 by the debtors had increased by £10,000 to £83,000, which was an issue as in 2007 the company wasn’t getting pavements as quickly as they did the previous two years. In 2005 it took 40 days to pay and £75,000 was owed to the company. In 2006 the days had decreased to 38 days with only £73,000 being owned, but then in 2007 rapidly the days had increased to 45 days and £83,000 being owed. Smallwood’s interest in 2005 was £46,000 and then it went up by £8,000 in 2006 to £54,000. Also in 2007 this number had increased to £61,000 by £7,000. This was an issue......
