Cursors in Pl/Sql

...SQL Cursor  A SQL cursor is a private Oracle SQL working area. There are two types of SQL cursor: implicit or explicit cursor. The implicit cursor is used by Oracle server to test and parse the SQL statements and the explicit cursors are declared by the programmers. Using the implicit cursor, we can test the outcome of SQL statements in PL/SQL. For example, • SQL%ROWCOUNT, return the number of rows affected; • SQL%FOUND, a BOOLEAN attribute indicating whether the recent SQL statement matches to any row; • SQL%NOTFOUND, a BOOLEAN attribute indicating whether the recent SQL statement does not match to any row; • SQL%ISOPEN, a BOOLEAN attribute and always evaluated as FALSE immediately after the SQL statement is executed. To write the explicit cursor,  please refer to the following example. Note that a cursor definition can array a number of arguments. For example,         DECLARE CURSOR csr_ac (p_name VARCHAR2) IS SELECT empno, name, sal FROM employee WHERE name LIKE '%p_name%'; BEGIN FOR rec_ac IN csr_ac ('LE') LOOP    DBMS_OUTPUT.PUT_LINE(rec_ac.empno || ' ' ||rec_ac.name || ' '||v_sal);  END LOOP ; CLOSE csr_ac; END; / Another way of writing the above code, is to use the basic loop and the SQL%NOTFOUND cursor, as shown in the following. SQL> DECLARE 2 CURSOR csr_ac (p_name VARCHAR2) IS 3 SELECT empno, ename, sal 4 FROM emp 5 6 WHERE ename LIKE '%SMITH%'; 7 8 v_a......

...What’s So Bad About Plastic Bags? Plastic bags are not biodegradable. They clog waterways, spoil the landscape, and end up in landfills where they may take 1,000 years or more to break down into ever smaller particles that continue to pollute the soil and water. Plastic bags also pose a serious danger to birds and marine mammals that often mistake them for food. Thousands die each year after swallowing or choking on discarded plastic bags. Finally, producing plastic bags requires millions of gallons of petroleum that could be used for transportation or heating. Consider a Personal Ban on Plastic Bags Some businesses have stopped offering their customers plastic bags, and many communities are either considering a ban on plastic bags or have already implemented one. Meanwhile, here are a couple of things you can do to help: Switch to reusable shopping bags. Reusable shopping bags made from renewable materials conserve resources by replacing paper and plastic bags. Reusable bags are convenient and come in a variety of sizes, styles and materials. When not in use, some reusable bags can be rolled or folded small enough to fit easily into a pocket. Recycle your plastic bags. If you do end up using plastic bags now and then, be sure to recycle them. Many grocery stores now collect plastic bags for recycling. If yours doesn't, check with your community recycling program to learn how to recycle plastic bags in your area. ---________________________________________...

Communication and Behavioral Models for Predatory Leadership

...Pradip Thomas The persistence of the poor to overcome systemic forces that sustain poverty will lead to upheaval – Matt Kramer (with gratitude to Pradip Thomas) Predatory Leadership (PL) is the working title for a phenomenon describing a set of anti-social behaviors and how the actors displaying these behaviors have been able, over the course of thousands of years, to disproportionately manipulate and distort the evolution of civilization into a paradigm in which the worst aberrations of human behavior, including war, poverty, famine, slavery, economic exploitation, corruption in government and industry, and other forms of social injustice are considered by many to be normal and unavoidable expressions of human behavior. A critical factor enabling predatory leaders to out-compete potential leaders of compassionate and collaborative leadership styles is based upon the premise that few people recognize signs of psychopathic behavioral symptoms early enough to make appropriate and timely choices protecting themselves from exploitation and abuse, or protecting positions of ultimate power and control from being occupied by the most toxic and malevolent of personalities. To provide some perspective on the nature and consequences of PL, consider a metaphorical comparison of the awareness of PL by today’s general population to the nature of public and professional awareness of the causes of disease in the twelfth century. Lacking evidence indicating the existence of viruses......

First Question shall be 40 Marks and other question shall be of 20marks each 1) “ Sir, I think, we need to have an incentive scheme for our field salespeople, so as to motivate them to put more than normal effort. This will help us to increase our market share and also make it possible for us to become number one player from number three position that we are currently at. We have declared in our last annual marketing conference that we would become the leader in the immediately. Do you agree, Sir,?” asked Krishna Kumar, the newly appointed head of sales and marketing, to the executive director of STL Ltd, B.G. Gururaja Rao. “I agree to the extent that we have to work on our long-term goal. That does not mean that we have to work without considering the long-term impact on the company’s profitability. So far, in last 15 years of our company’s operations, sales and other functional employees have been paid a fixed salary, fringe benefits, and once a year bonus (as per government regulations on bonus). Why should we pay incentives to only support functions like accounts, administration, and human resource? We need extra efforts from all employees, not only salespeople. If we try to motivate salespeople by paying commission on achieving their sales quotas, other employees and particularly shop-floor workers and supervisors will demand extra money by some kind of......

...Oracle 11g PL/SQL New Features PL/SQL "continue" keyword - This will allow a "C-Like" continue in a loop, skipping an iteration to bypass any "else" Boolean conditions. A nasty PL/SQL GOTO statement is no longer required to exit a Boolean within a loop. Oracle professional Jurgen Kemmelings has an excellent PL/SQL example of the PL/SQL continue clause in-action: begin for i in 1..3 loop dbms_output.put_line(’i=’||to_char(i)); if ( i = 2 ) then continue; end if; dbms_output.put_line(’Only if i is not equal to 2′); end loop; end; Disabled state for PL/SQL - Another 11g new feature is a "disabled" state for PL/SQL (as opposed to "enabled" and "invalid" in dba_objects). Easy PL/SQL compiling - Native Compilation no longer requires a C compiler to compile your PL/SQL. Your code goes directly to a shared library. Source: Lewis Cunningham Improved PL/SQL stored procedure invalidation mechanism - A new 11g features will be fine grained dependency tracking, reducing the number of objects which become invalid as a result of DDL. Scalable PL/SQL - The next scalable execution feature is automatic creation of "native" PL/SQL (and Java code), with just one parameter for each type with an "on/off" value. This apparently provides a 100% performance boost for pure PL/SQL code, and a 10%-30% performance boost for code containing SQL. Mark Rittman Enhanced PL/SQL warnings - The 11g PL/SQL compiler will issue a......
