INTRODUCTION:
My research topic area is about the concept of pragmatics and how this concept can be applied to any of the information retrieval systems for better results. Some of my research questions are as follows: * Is it possible to apply the concept of pragmatics to any of the search engine? * Is there any pragmatic search engine available at the moment? * What is the difference between the concept of pragmatic and semantic? * Is the concept of pragmatic better than that of the semantic for information retrieval?
PROJECT BACKGROUND:
Earlier most of the search engines were only focusing on keywords and mainly uses some kind of ranking algorithm. But now a day’s semantic search engines are more popular. They deal with the literal meaning of the words or sentences. Some of the semantic search engines are Hakia, Kosmix, Exalead, SenseBot, Cognition search, Lexxe, Swoogle, Factbites, Powerset, Cluuz, etc. Google is using semantic technology but is not yet a fully fledged semantic search engine. It does not use NLP. There are barriers that Google needs to overcome: * Is it capable of becoming fully semantic without modifying its index? * Can Google continue to keep the results simple and navigate for its varied user base? * Does Google intend to become a fully semantic search engine and to do so within a timescale will it damage their position and reputation?
Pragmatic deals with overall communicative and social context and its effect. But not much of a work is done in the area of how pragmatic can be used in information retrieval.
AIM:
To study the notion of pragmatics and see how it can be applied to any of the search engines for better information retrieval.
OBJECTIVES:
* To identify how the semantic search engines work. * To identify if it is possible to apply the knowledge of pragmatics to any of the search engine for better information retrieval.
INTELLECTUAL CHALLENGE:
Identify some ways to use the concept of pragmatics for better information retrieval.
DELIVERABLES:
* Results of the experiments conducted.

RESOURCES:
Natural Language Processing software.
METHODS:
* Experiments * Case studies

Within each outline you must include the following information: * The lesson introduction * The transitions and illustrations you will use * The lesson conclusion * Bibliography with the cited scholarly sources in Turabian format Once you have received feedback from your classmates (which takes place in Discussion Board Forum 5), finish your Lessons Outlines and submit them in one document within Module/Week 5.  The Rubric details how you will be graded.  Consult the Scholarly vs. Popular Sources document to......

...U.S.-Israel Science & Technology Foundation Tips on How to Write a Proposal In addition to the title page and budget forms, the USISTF only provides a general outline of the items to include in a proposal. Here are some tips to help you prepare a better proposal. Before you begin preparation of your proposal, carefully read the “Request for Proposals” (RFP) and “Frequently Asked Questions” (FAQs) to clearly understand the issues to be addressed and the information you are required to submit. All proposals must include certain basic information. These basics include: Why are you doing this project? What will you be doing? How will you be doing it? Who will be doing it? Where will it be done? How long will it take? How much will it cost? The following generic proposal template is provided for guidance only. The USISTF does not require a specific format. Follow this format in organizing your thoughts for preparing your proposal. Executive Summary: Some people consider this the most important part of the proposal because it is the reviewer’s first impression. Even though it appears first, write it last because it is a summary of the proposal. The executive summary is a concise description of the project covering objectives, need, methodology, and dissemination plans. It should identify the expected outcomes of the project. An executive summary should be less than 750 words and fit on one page. Need: Well-documented description of the problem to be addressed and why it is......

...an outline naturally organizes the information in a highly structured, logical manner, forming a skeleton of the textbook chapter or lecture subject that serves as an excellent study guide when preparing for tests. This method of note taking is extremely useful in most instances; however, in classes, such as math or chemistry, where a lot of formulas, graphs, or structures must be drawn, the outline method should be replaced with a better note-taking system. How to Use Write points in an organized manner based on space indentation. Place major points farthest to the left. Indent each more specific point farther to the right (level of importance is indicated by distance away from left margin). Advantages The outlining method emphasizes content as well as relationships between the material. Also, it reduces the time needed for editing and allows for easy reviewing. Disadvantages This method requires more thought for accurate, understandable organization and, therefore, cannot be used during lectures that move too quickly. Example How to study from an outline:    I. Read through one line at a time          A. Explain the information and connect the idea to others presented    II. Check the accuracy of the information    III. Add clue words          A. Jot down keywords or details that you didn’t originally include in the outline          B. Use these keywords to jog your memory when studying from the outline    IV. Recite information from the outline......
