A year after revolution swept off her throne , Marie Antoinette stood on trial for her life , accused of crimes against French Republic . She was nearing 38 , but she appeared far older than her years , as there barely remained a trace of the lovely , carefree Austrian princess , who became a French Queen , while she was still a teenager . It was a long journey for a frivolous woman , who was a terrible ruler , but changed in spite of herself , showing an outstanding courage and dignity through deeply personal tragedy …

Marie Antoinette was born to a life of unimaginable wealth and unquestioned privilege . Austria was a great empire spread over central Europe and her mother was its ruler. The Empress always behaved towards her daughter more like a head of state than an affectionate mother . As she once said about her own children : - “ They are born to obey ! “ . When she wanted to build an alliance with France , Austria ‘s centuries old rival , she commanded Marie Antoinette to marry the heir to the French throne , Louis the 16 th . On April 21 , 1770 , Marie Antoinette said goodbye to Austria forever . She was just 14 , armed only with her charms and the instructions of her mother , - “ Be well my dearest child , a great distance will separate us , do so much good to the French people , they can say I sent them an angel “ . Which indeed , became a valid statement , until Louis the 15 th , the King of

France passed away . Louis the 16 th , who was a 15 year old shy, introverted teenager , with no disposition to rule, and Marie Antoinette , were to be crowned shortly after , the King and the Queen of France , but the reality was , they were to young to reign .. Louis the 16 th : When my grandfather passed away , he left France in the brink of chaos and economic collapse . France was in a big debt as a country . But despite France’s state of despair , the Queen and I continued to splurge on expensive and lavish items . Marie Antoinette : I was living in a fantasy world , while King was interested only in hunting and preferred rather than quite lifestyle , I had all the pleasures of the night life - gambling , opera , theater , never ending dancing balls . Being homesick , I surrounded myself with young and fun people , never really caring if they were my true friends . Male peasant : Us , simple people , we had no voice within the government. The second Estate continued to implement even more harsh taxes , therefore increasing our constant starvation and suffering . Female peasant : With barely enough food to feed ourselves , thousands of children were dying due to the unbelievably cruel winters . After a poor harvest , the cost of flour rose , causing a shortage of bread . Since it was a

staple of French diet , people started to turn into savages for a small loaf of bread . Male peasant : We were running out of options , we wanted equality , liberty and democracy , and we would stop at nothing to achieve this goal ! Marie Antoinette : While Versailles was an oasis of extravagance , France was suffering and corrupted , and even the heavens seemed angry with us . I was completely unaware of my surroundings , ignoring my country’ s painful existence and trying to compensate my unhappy marriage with the finest jewelry you could find in Europe and the most exquisite wardrobe , a Queen could ever have. Little did I know that tribulation first , will make me realize who I really am .. Louis the 16 th : Until one day I received a letter of complaint from the radical republican , Maximillien Robespierre . It stated : “ Do you know why there are so many needy people ? It is because your luxurious existences devours in one day the substance of a thousand man ! “ On June 20 th 1789 , the 3 rd Estate held a meeting at the hall in Paris . They found the place locked and believed it was arranged by King Louis the 16 th to end their demands . Instead , they held their meeting at a nearby tennis court . And there it was proposed that the 3 rd Estate would form an alliance and were to be remained assembled ( National Assembly ) , until a new constitution was written . Agbas 4

Marie Antoinette : I firmly believed the fact that royal power should be absolute and unchanging . While king did not respond well under the pressure , having a nervous breakdown , I decided to take this matter in my own hands . I had no intention to share power with the pack of mad men ! A couple of weeks later , on July 14 th , angry citizens broke into the fortress of Bastille in an attempt to capture arms and ammunition . The crowd easily broke into the arsenal and wanted the Bastille’s Governor . He was captured , stabbed and shot , then dragged through the streets of Paris . Louis the 16 th : When I came back from a hunting trip , my messenger barged in and said : “ Sire , the Bastille has fallen! “ . I asked , “ Is it a revolt ? “ He replied with : “ No , it is a revolution ! “ . Marie Antoinette : On October 5 th , 1789 , a hungry mob of 7.000 working class women decided to march to our residence at Versailles . They blamed me for shortage of bread , while shouting threats of rape and death in my name .

Louis the 16 th : Queen tried to convince me to escape to Austria with the children , but I absolutely refused . That same night , sensing she was the target of the mob , she slept alone , separating herself from us . Marie Antoinette : The very next day the crowd demanded from me to come to the balcony . I went outside with muskets being pointed at me and bowed my head . The king and I , along with our children , were forced to move to Paris. We were lost , dragged away , perhaps to death . When Kings become prisoners, they are very near it . We were never to see Versailles again … On January 20 th , 1792 , after a month long trial , Louis the 16 th was convicted and sentenced to death by guillotine . The Queen watched as he was taken by carriage , surrounded by thousands of armed men , to his own death . He was to be the first victim of the Reign of Terror . Marie Antoinette plunged into a deep mourning , refusing to eat , her health starting to deteriorate rapidly . Nine month after the execution of her husband , the King Louis the 16 th , Marie Antoinette was convicted to death on several charges against French republic , being carried off in a criminal cart to be guillotined on October 16 th , 1793 . Marie Antoinette : I have just been condemned to death . But not a shameful one , since this one is only shameful to a criminal . I am calm , as people are , whose consciousness is clear . What are the key facts of this case? And, what, in your opinion led Mari to sell her shares? Before listing the key facts, an important issue to address is the difference between the management of the company and the ownership of the company. The Vega Food Company had two types of stocks: The A voting shares that do not pay dividends (management) and the B non-voting shares that pay dividends (ownership). The problem in the case arises due to the thin line that divides both. Key Facts: Francisco Sr. founded Industrias La Vega, a Spanish meat-processing business that produced hams, sausages, and other delicacies for domestic and export markets. Francisco Jr., the only son of six siblings had worked closely with his father since 1976. In 1994, Francisco Jr. became president of the company when his 72-year old father was killed in an automobile accident. Francisco Jr. is the only sibling that had worked in the family business prior to the car accident. In February 1997, only Francisco Jr. and Tere (the fourth of the daughters of the family) worked at the family company in management positions. Tere joined only three years earlier. The ownership structure of Industrias La Vega...

...utilizing advanced drug-delivery technologies. The company currently has over 20 distinct, proprietary drug-delivery technologies and has access to other technologies through licensing agreements with development partners. In September 2010, the stockholders of Biovail Corporation and Valeant Pharmaceuticals International voted in favour of combining the two companies to become one under the Valeant name. The new combined company is known as Valeant Pharmaceuticals International, Inc. and its shares are traded on both the New York Stock Exchange and the Toronto Stock Exchange. In the case, on September 30, 2003, a truck of Biovail carrying a shipment to Biovail’s Distributor, was involved in a multi-vehicle traffic accident near Chicago. David Maris found that Biovail intentionally and falsely attributed nearly half of its failure to meet its third quarter 2003 earnings guidance to a truck accident. Biovail intentionally misstated both the effect of the accident on Biovail’s third quarter earnings as well as the value of the product involved in the truck accident. In fact, the accident had no effect on third quarter earnings. Besides, Biovail applied FOB shipping point in recognizing its revenue. This is not complied with US GAAP which required revenue must be earned and realized or realizable in order for it to be recognized. ISSUES A few days after a truck accident, Biovail Corporation had released guidance for the quarter ended September 30, 2003, indicating that......

For Maris perspective Maris as an analyst has the responsibility to understand the effect of the accident on the firm before he signed off on his Sell recommendation because he wanted to make sure that he was giving a best advice to his investment clients. So, Maris should identify whether the revenue from the sale of the drugs in the truck should recorded in the third quarter. So, the following are the recommendations to help him investigate events successfully and whether to sign off the Sell recommendation. Maris has to collect and examine the entire relevant document for the sales which the truck involved in the accident like bill of landing which contain information about how much of the products in the truck had involved in the accident. Besides the document that relate to the sales, Maris also have to investigate the shipment agreement between Biovail and the distributor due to the ambiguous of the shipping term used where there is an argument happened between Biovail and distributor after the accident happened. As a result, by examine through document, it can help Maris to identify the actual cost that incurred in accident, who is the party that is liable for the consequences of the accident and also whether the accident will give any impact on the third quarter of financial statement. Vega Food

...1 THE VEGA FOOD COMPANY In February 2007, Francisco Valle, Jr., president of Industrias La Vega, organized the first family council meeting in the owning family’s history to address problems he was having with his youngest sister, Mari, a shareholder in the company. He felt that the problems were not of his making and were interfering with his management of the company. Francisco, 45, had worked closely with his father, Francisco Sr., since 1986 and had become president of the company in March 2004, when his 72-year-old father was killed in an automobile accident. Industrias La Vega was a Spanish meat-processing business that produced hams, sausages, and other delicacies for domestic and export markets. The $104.8-million-a-year business was demanding, of course, but Francisco Jr. felt most challenged by the family conflicts that often overwhelmed him. The ownership structure of Industrias La Vega had been updated just months before the tragic accident involving Francisco Sr. At the request of Francisco Jr., who was concerned about the possible loss of control of the enterprise he had co-managed with his father for years, Francisco Sr. and his attorneys had created two classes of stock. The voting A shares did not pay dividends. The nonvoting but dividend-bearing B shares had a par value 10 times higher than that of the A shares. Except for brief stints, none of the Valle daughters had worked in the business prior to their father’s death. Ana, the second eldest daughter,......

As I change out of my uniform, I realize that laundry needs to be complete and begin the process. My daughter is present and asks “Mommy can I help?” “Yes baby!” I say. Without hesitation she begins to put the white clothes inside the Whirlpool washing machine. Her short little frame pressed against the washing machine as she struggles to reach. She then looks at me with her almond shaped eyes stretched wide, “Mommy, I’m done, what’s next?” I respond, “Thank you Mari, you are such a big helper but I had a long day so it is best we wind down.” Instantly her mood shifted. Mari was torn into pieces. She loves to help me and I admire her willingness. Being only three years old at the time, it’s hard for Mari to understand the answer “no”. Her face clearly showed disappointment with tears streaming down her face. Her caramel skin, thick dark brown hair in two oversized ponytails, with pink lace clips in the front looks so adorable. I dread seeing her in dismay, but tonight was not the best night for activities. My mind was overwhelmed with burdens, frustration, and agony. I was crying internally but I couldn’t make it noticeable. I plead my case to my daughter as I had to slightly pull her to the bathroom. In a matter of time she calmed down and begin to pout. ...Maris Basha Balkan MUN ICJ 2014 Position paper Topic A: Aegean Sea continental shelf, Greece Vs Turkey, 10th August 1976. The Aegean Sea continental shelf dispute continues for almost 40 years, and Greece and Turkey never came to a solution, neither did the UN or ICJ. Both parts pretend different things about the continental shelf. For Greece the International laws give to the islands (which belong to Greece) the right to extend their jurisdiction, and that every island has his own jurisdiction and continental shelf, thus the definition must be made with a median line. For Turkey the islands do not have the right to extend their jurisdiction on the continental shelf because they are in the Turkish continental shelf, so for Turkey must not be applied the median line definition. So, considering that the UN’s main goal is to maintain peace and stability between all the countries of the world and the ICJ’s main goal is to respect the International Laws and to find a peaceful solution to solve disputes, I judge that the solutions may be to restrict Greek territorial waters of some naval miles (n miles) in the continental shelf, near the islands, and to let all the other territories as they are. This is one of the most comprehensive solutions because Greece has the largest part of the Aegean Sea and any restriction other than this would be in big disfavor for Turkey. This solution does not favor Turkey either Greece, but is a middle solution, which makes both part content.......

Finding a reason why suicide happens is very important and can help prevent it from happening in the future. “Research is needed to better understand and respond effectively to people who are suicidal” (International Journal of Mental Health Nursing, 2009 Feb; 18(1): 10-7). The methodological approach that was used in the research was interpretive sociology. The researcher gathered qualitative data by surveying participants and getting answers. Babies Assignment

...Assignment Course: Sociology of Family (SOCI 040) Thomas Balmes’ documentary film represents few main differences in life-style, cross-cultural differences and similarities of four babies’ childhood from four different locations. Among these four babies, two babies are from urban area, Mari from Tokoyo, Japan and Hattie from San Francisco. Where other two babies are from rural area, Ponijao is from Opuwo, Namibia and baby boy Bayar is from Bayanchandmani, Mongolia. This assignment will presents below four main differences between rural and urban area babies experiences in their childhood: sanitation and safety, feeding and bathing, toys and play and family structure. Firstly, one of main concern between all these four babies is about sanitation and safety. Ponijao and Bayar were growing up within an uneducated society, where Safety and security is less concern and children play with animals and insects. Babies from rural area usually feed with unhealthy food; they don’t have stronger medication system to improve babies’ health conditions. The main goal of babies in rural area is to join their society and do same work their family do, nothing extra. On other side, Mari and Hattie both were grown up in urban cities and regularly checked by doctors and stronger medication system. Society in urban area always more concern about safety and security of babies in terms of foods, medical system. Secondly, food is a main part of everyone’s life and it is......
