You would think who better to judge ones personality and behavior than yourself. At least that was my thoughts in the beginning. The beginning meaning before I took the Life Styles Inventory. The results proved to be more challenging that I thought. Considering there is no right or wrong way of thinking, there appears to be some controllable thinking habits that will better situate an individual for personal and professional growth.
According to the survey I have a Constructive Style of thinking. I reflect self-enhancing thinking and behavior that contribute to one’s level of satisfaction, ability to develop healthy relationships and work effectively with people, and proficiency at accomplishing tasks.
The results of this evaluation were scored in a percentile of individuals who previously took the Life Styles Inventory and the following results are for my “primary” and “back-up” thinking habits:
• 83% Affiliative
• 77% Power
Affiliative thinking style is described as ability to maintain relationships whether they are professional or personal. We have a desire to be meaningful and consistently work to improve our relationships. We like being motivators and giving praise to ones success. I know this to be true of myself so I definitely agree that I am an Affiliative thinker. In my own life experiences I constantly push for individuals to strive and be the best at what they do no matter what the price may be. Being considerate of others is how I was raised so that comes naturally. Some do not always see our potential in themselves but with praise and motivation all things become clearer. Sharing my feelings and thoughts is what enables me to grow as an individual because I am expressing what I feel and not suppressing my thoughts. I am always willing to be a team player at work because I know that if I am in need of a team member they will be there for…...

...The Life Styles Inventory™ (LSI) Paper MGMT 591 Leadership and Organizational Behavior   Introduction The Life Styles Inventory™ (LSI) presents a series of questions in the areas of personal satisfaction, stress, effectiveness and quality of interpersonal relationships and then collates participant responses into a circumplex identifying 12 specific patterns or styles of thinking, behaving and interacting on a personal, management and leadership level--representing the essence of an individual's effectiveness. The circumplex provides a visual description of an individual's thinking and behaviour and then compares results with those of other individuals having taken the inventory in order to create self-awareness of strengths and weakness in order to create awareness of constructive behaviour. The norming base for the LSI represents nearly 10,000 individuals from various organizations, ages, levels of education and from both genders. The results plotted on the circumplex a divided into areas defined by higher order and lower order needs of satisfaction and security; and task-centered and people-centered orientations. Within these spheres are 12 separate styles (approval, conventional, dependent, avoidance, oppositional, power, competitive, perfectionistic, achievement, self-actualizing, humanistic-encouraging, and affiliative) which are subsequently grouped into three specific patterns (achievement/dependent; self-actualizing/avoidance;......

...A Life Styles Inventory Awakening The Life Styles Inventory (LSI) Self-Description helps individuals recognize certain thinking styles within themselves to help better understand how they can improve in personal and professional relationships. Each of the 12 styles are given a number from 1-12 and are arranged in a circular graph much like a clock. The styles are then grouped into three distinct categories: Construction Styles, Passive/Defensive Styles and Aggressive/Defensive Styles. After taking the LSI myself, I found it to be somewhat eye opening in certain categories. The LSI identified my primary thinking style at the 7 o’clock position as Oppositional, which is in the Aggressive/Defensive Style. Against the 9,207 people of which have taken the test, I scored 84% higher in this section. This indicates that this is a strong personality trait and very much like me. Some of the traits of this behavior are: the ability to ask tough questions; a negative, cynical attitude; a sarcastic sense of humor and some one who typically loves to argue. Many of these descriptions I would consider to be very accurate when it comes to describing me. The one that most closely relates to myself is the sarcastic sense of humor. For as long as I can remember I have had (and implemented regularly) a sarcastic sense of humor. I have also been told that I love to argue just for the sake of an argument. I see this regularly with close friends and loved ones. I believe this manifests mostly to......

...GM591 PREPARATION GUIDE: LIFE STYLES INVENTORY(LSI) Introduction: Thinking and Behavior "The quest for leadership is first an inner quest to discover who you are” (p.391).[1] --Jim Kouzes and Barry Posner--- Self-awareness is foundational to effective leadership and organization success[2]. Research in leadership and organizational behavior indicates that managers who are blind to who they are, and to the effects they have on other people in their organizations, place their effectiveness and their careers at risk. A frequently cited axiom is "the first commandment of leadership is to know thyself." For example, in their studies of managerial and executive derailment, the Center for Creative Leadership found that successful managers: (1) understand their values, personal styles, and strengths and weaknesses; (2) know the impact of these values, styles, and strengths and weaknesses on their ability to effectively work with others and achieve their goals; and (3) are quick to reflect upon and learn from their own experiences. Despite these advantages, we often resist opportunities to increase our self-awareness or to acknowledge error. We fear that learning something new about ourselves will be painful -- doing so may require us to change our treasured and habitual ways of seeing, thinking, and behaving. Self-awareness is also an important barometer to ensure that even the best leadership practices don't become destructive. As Jim Kouzes and Barry Posner caution...

...Running Head: LSI – LIFE STYLES INVENTORTY 1 LSI – Life Styles Inventory DeVry College – Keller Graduate School of Management GM591 Overall, I was rather surprised at the results from my LSI – Life Styles Inventory. I believe I openly and candidly responded to the questionnaire, but none the less am both surprised by a portion of the interpretation of my personality, while other aspects of the interpretation are really spot on. I will review my primary and secondary thinking styles as revealed by the LSI, along with one limiting style. I will also discuss how these styles have an impact on my potential management styles, and my personal styles. Even though I may not like to admit the accuracy of the LSI results I find they are shockingly accurate. As I have spent the past couple of days reviewing the result and contemplating the interpretation it has opened my eyes. As shown in my LSI Circumplex my primary style is The Oppositional Style. This trait is found in the 7 o’clock position of the LSI Circumplex and is defined as “…scale measures our tendency to use the defensive and aggressive strategy of disagreeing with others, and to seek attention by being critical and cynical.” (Human Synergistics Inc, 2010). This is not a style that I had thought I would be so strongly tied to, however when reviewing the generalized characteristics of the style I found myself in agreement with the summary. I often tend to 1) ask tough probing questions, 2) have a......

...The Life Styles Inventory (LSI) is a self-assessment diagnostic instrument that measures 12 key thinking patterns, or "styles". The LSI promotes performance change and improvement by increasing personal understanding of one's thinking and behavior.   By responding to these 240 inventory items, individuals learn exactly where they need to focus their development efforts, without ambiguity or guesswork. The results of the self-description are plotted on a circular graph for easy visualization of how the individual thinks and behaves in the 12 LSI styles. This profile acts as a personalized developmental needs assessment, calling attention to the individual's strengths as well as areas needing improvement According to the LSI profile show my “primary” style is affiliative. My “backup thinking style is power. The Limiting thinking style was picked was approval. Which I do belive henderd me as times. But to go more indepth about the primary style according to the LSI test people that score a high percentile in affliative are individuals who appreciate people and enjoy being in the company of others. In fact, they tend to be most comfortable when among those with whom they have established strong emotional and social ties. These results didn’t surprise me because I come froma very close knit family and I value relationships with anyone that is close to me, that same relationship extends over into all my frieldships. Lsi -Life Style Inventory Survey

...Life Styles Inventory (LSI) Self-Description Suggs MGMT-591-20612 (Leadership & Org. Behavior) January 15, 2015 The Life Styles Inventory (LSI) survey was something that helped me somewhat understand more about myself than I knew before. It also was helpful with confirming other characteristics about myself that I already knew and had knowledge of. After taking the Life Style Inventory survey, I noticed that I scored relatively high in the following areas: Perfectionist, Power, and Competitive. These three were my top out of the 12 categories or characteristics from the LSI survey. I would agree with two of the following, in which the competitive style kind of surprised me. Then again, thinking about the types of decisions and situation that I’ve come across, those three things actually play a big part in how I deal with different things. When it comes down to situations that involve work or even my social life, I have the tendency to show each one of those styles in some way, shape, or form. Within society, those three styles, in my opinion, are needed in order to survive this “cold” world that we live in. If you are strong willed, you will succeed, but if you are weak minded, you might crumble beneath the pressure of society and the beings that live in it. Perfectionist, Power, and Competitiveness are things that play a key role within the aspect of my life and everyday situations. I’ve always been the strong willed being, which always strive for success......

...Life Cycle Inventory Mohamed Elamin Date: 05/15/2011 DeVry University-Keller Graduate School of Management GM 591: Leadership and Organizational Behavior Professor: Michael Belak Life Style Inventory Human behavior is one of the most complicated issues, hundreds of thousands researches had been held to understand it. Human behavior is influence by culture, attitude, emotions, value, ethnic and other genetics factors. Most of the people knew that there is no perfection especially when talking about human behavior; also it’s very difficult to measure or evaluate it. Many people may be able to describe their strengths, but they do not like to talk about their weaknesses. On the other hand, people who can objectively identify their strengths and weaknesses. But in the same time they found difficulties to recognize how they can enhance their strengths and how they can overcome their weaknesses. Therefore, Human Synergistic In. developed computer software called life style inventory, which will be referred as LSI. The LSI software helps users to assess their behavior, not only that, it work with them to improve strengths and reduce the effect of weaknesses. LSI is tremendously helpful software especially when you come to the working behavior, which requires interacting, dealing and working with people who are different from you. In the rest of this paper I will try articulate my life behavior base on LSI test. I found that my primary behavior is “competitive”......

...Every manager supposed to know all of his strengths and weaknesses knowing that he/she will be dealing with people of all different behaviors. Knowing your strengths and weakness is the key asset to successfully manage an organization. For this purpose Dr. J. Clayton Lafferty developed The Life Style Inventory (LSI) for self-improving purposes for the reasons of increasing a personal and professional effectiveness. The LSI measures 12 specific styles of patterns of thinking that can either help or hinder a person from reaching his or her potential. The 12 styles measured by LSI are organized into three general clusters: Constructive, which includes: achievement, self-actualizing, humanistic-encouraging, and affiliate thinking style. Passive/Defensive, which includes: approval, conventional, dependent, and avoidance thinking styles. Aggressive/Defensive, which includes: oppositional, power, competitive, and perfectionistic thinking styles. After honestly answering 240 questions I received the results that my primary personal style is achievement where I received the highest score of 95%. This style shows the following characteristics: focusing on achieving self-set goals, believes that individual effort counts, commits to make things better, take on challenging tasks and prefer to setting and accomplishing realistic goals rather than goals imposed by others. My secondary personal style is self-actualizing. This style shows the following characteristics: self-respect,......

...GM 591: Leadership and Organizational Behavior Project Proposal Overview of Organization The organization that will be the topic of discussion in my final project paper is Chevron Phillips Chemical Company. CPCHEM is one of the world’s top producers of Olefins and Polyolefins and a leading supplier of aromatics, alpha olefins, styrenics, specialty chemicals, piping, and proprietary plastics. Chevron Phillips headquarters are in the Woodlands, Texas Telecommunications. ADC is a publicly traded, global, manufacturing telecommunications company whose headquarters are in the Twin Cities. We primarily sell copper and fiber products to customers like Verizon and AT&T/Cingular. Like many other telecommunication companies, ADC went thru a significant down-turn around 2000. Not only did locations get shut-down and hundreds of people got laid off, the morale and culture of ADC changed. ADC went from having a top benefits package to having a decent benefits package. They used to have all types of employee incentives and appreciation activities. Now the employees are lucky if they get a caramel apple in the fall and an appreciation meal at the holidays. Rewards for employees doing well are not there anymore. With the down-turn, ADC lost a lot of their highly skilled, highly valuable employees. They’ve consciously tried to higher “the best of the best” but ADC, at the current time, is not willing to provide the salaries and benefits to get “the best of the best.” ...

...RUNNING HEAD: LSI Paper I am charged with the task of completing the Life Styles Inventory Survey to give a self-description of my thinking styles. The purpose of this assignment is to determine the impact that the personal styles have on my management style and to identify which one of my thinking styles may be reducing my overall effectiveness. After completing the survey, my circumplex shows that my primary thinking style is the “Conventional Style”(4 o’clock) and my backup thinking style is the “Power Style” (8 o’clock). I agree with the results of the conventional thinking style, but, I do not fully agree with the results of the power thinking style. According to the LSI results, the conventional thinking style is one that measures our inclination to act in a compliant way. Conventional thinkers worry about adhering to rules and established procedures. According to the LSI results, when we depend on on established procedures in determining how we do things, we risk losing our sense of uniqueness and individuality. I would have to agree with the results of this survey that I am a conventional thinker. As a child, my parents had very strict household rules that, simply, were not to my benefit to break. Therefore, I often abided by the rules. I think this is why I tend to do things strictly by the book. Doing things by the book gives me a sense of security in knowing that I followed the policy, in case something goes wrong. As a conventional thinker, I......

Lsi Assessment

...after I completed the LSI( Life Style Inventory) assessment and read the results I had to pull myself away from my work to really think about my results. When I took the assessment I told myself I wanted to be as honest as I possible could, so perhaps I might get honest answers as to how I think and behave. Then answer question like, how do the ways I think and behave affect my management style for now and in the future? Knowing yourself is important to every aspect of your like. I spend a lot of time trying to get a better understanding for why I respond to certain situation in certain ways. For example, when, when I’m asked to do anything at work I immediately say, “no problem”. My coworkers jokingly call me the teacher’s pet or they say thinks like, “Your really trying to keep your job”. Some will even wink and say things like, “Job security”. I smile at their jest. I’m sure that it comes from a good place, but none of what they say can be further from the truth. I whole-heartedly want to do what ever it takes to help get the job done. Which is why I found the result of my LSI assessment so interesting. The LSI determined that my primary style of thinking is Constructive, which according to the LSI is a style of thinking that is self-enhancing and contributes to my satisfaction, ability to effectively work with others, develop healthy relationships, and to proficiently accomplish task. My back up thinking style passive/defensive, which according the LSI represents......

...LSI Paper Introduction The Life Style Inventory (LSI) is a survey in which one can identify their underlying thoughts and motivations that may shape their individual behaviors. The LSI is a series of self identifying questions which are scored and results tabulated. The results are scored in 3 major categories; constructive styles, passive/defensive styles, and aggressive/defensive styles. The three major categories are then broken down further into twelve subcategories. Enclosed will be a copy of the results of the LSI I have taken. Also, in the following, I will identify my primary and back up thinking styles and any styles that may be limiting my professional effectiveness and ways to overcome those obstacles. I will also discuss the impacts of my thinking styles on the four functions of management. Finally I will discuss how these thinking styles were developed in my life. Personal Thinking Styles My personal thinking style results varied and were extremely surprising. However, there were two particular areas which stood out the most. My primary thinking style is oppositional. This is a subcategory of the aggressive/defensive style. The oppositional style means that I tend to be aggressive and defensive when disagreeing with others. According to the results of the survey, I would rather put someone down in order to make myself feel better. Oppositional people also tend to have a strong need for recognition which may result in sarcastic responses. ......

...LSI Paper Gloria Guzman guzmangloria@hotmail.com GM591 Leadership and Organizational Behavior Professor Barbara Ward September 2, 2011 Personal Thinking Styles Well hello Gloria Guzman, it is so nice to visit you again. That is exactly what I thought when I completed my Life Style Inventory and saw my report. In my life time I have taken a few self-evaluating, personality-leadership-management surveys and I must say I always learn something new about myself and witness growth and maturity. My LSI primary style is Affiliative with a score of 36 out of 40 and an 83 percentile. My results are shown in appendix 1. Both the high score and the high percentile tell me that this style strongly describes how I see myself and behave. The affiliative style falls in the constructive styles category. In general, this category measures our level of satisfaction, our ability to establish healthy relationships and work effectively with people, and proficiency at accomplishing tasks. This style places high importance on family, friendship and business relationships. In my personal life it explains my dislike and avoidance of arguments and disagreements. I have been married 27 years, and yes I know it takes two to make it work but my high value of marriage makes me work harder at it. This style has shined a light on why people usually confine and trust me with their feelings. It takes me time to make a decision because I consider how other people are going to feel and be......
