Introduction The purpose of this writing is to assess a situation and describes specific organizational initiatives that I could implemented as a HRM to appreciate diversity and leverage of Human potential. After the completion of this assignment I should be able to demonstrate a better understanding of competitiveness and collaboration in a global economy. Daft (2013) Diversity is all the ways in which people differ. The dictionary definition of diversity states that its an inclusion of individuals representing more than one national origin, color, religion, socioeconomic stratum, sexual orientation, in the workplace. Hitchcock (2012) Leveraging Human Potential involves two basic elements--one is having leaders or managers who have a desire and the skills to bring the most and the best out of their teams. The other element is having a team that has the desire to grow and the willingness to experience the rights of passage involved in that growth. Research show that there is a lot of humility that is required for personal and professional growth. As a result, leaders who are going to facilitate this growth must work the triangle of pushing their team mentally, helping their team grow the competencies necessary for growth, hold them accountable for their progress, and be there to support them when they run into inevitable challenges. Analysis The Case that I reviewed in the text was true to myself. This case involved a new hired female worker into an oil company that was not that diverse at all. The newly hired employee was looking forward to a meeting that she was having with one of the top female managers in the organization. Upon meeting with the manager she was given some…...

...taken away to ensure the required processes are fulfilled. Global positioning system (GPS) is the next level and this basically guides users through the care process. This is where one will find the protocol for certain procedures. The GPS-plus level exceeds the GPS level in that human intervention is not needed. The final level is the “autopilot” level, which is when an entire function or process can be handled by the workflow system. The autopilot level is the gold standard for business process management. A major concern at the Chester County Hospital (CCH) is patient safety; particularly with infections. Since MRSA has been receiving a lot of attention for the past several years, it has been a focal point of CCH to control. Developing a MRSA workflow lead to a reduction of MSRA infections and an increase in total awareness of other contagious infection workflow. This study shows that the health care systems of today can benefit from workflow technology. It improves productivity and optimizes processes to enhance patient experience. The potential of uncovering the true value of healthcare IT can be obtained through workflow technology. Reference: Glaser, J., & Hess, R. Strategic Outsourcing: Leveraging Knowledge Capabilities

...greater unexploited potentials that intellectually-based systems offer:2 Obtaining higher value, more flexible, and more integrated services than internal sources can offer. Improving the company’s capacities to stay current and to innovate by interacting with “best in world” knowledge sources. Achieving cross-divisional coordination and shareholder value gains that the company — for internal structural or political reasons — could not otherwise achieve. Outsourcing Knowledge-Based Services The drivers for these trends are formidable. As the service sector has grown to embrace 80 percent of all U.S. employment, specialized service firms have become very large and sophisticated relative to the scale and expertise that individual staff and service groups have within integrated companies — whether in services or manufacturing (see Table 1). These specialists can develop greater knowledge depth, invest more in software and training systems, be more efficient, and hence offer higher wages and attract more highly trained people than can the individual staff groups of all but a few integrated companies. Given this greater knowledge depth and wider range of customer interactions, they can also become much more innovative than their internal counterparts might. Companies as diverse as British Petroleum, DuPont, MCI, Dell Computer, Beaumont Hospital, Ford, State Street Bank, Ameritek, Nike, and Argyle Diamonds dramatically illustrate potentials. Properly......

Trade Leveraging Policy to Push Exports on Anvil

...Trade leveraging policy to push exports on anvil Our Economy Bureau 3 September 2004 New Delhi: A day after doling out sops to exporters, commerce and industry minister Kamal Nath today said that the government would bring out a trade leveraging policy apart from a special package for textiles, tea and coffee sectors to further push up exports. "India is one of the few countries in the world which will have incremental growth in its human skill resources in the coming years. We have never leveraged trade. I am going to work on trade leveraging policy. We have to see trade not only as a foreign exchange earner but also as a net employment generator," Nath said at a FICCI seminar on the foreign trade policy. Since the multi-fibre agreement is coming to an end in 2005, the minister said that the government would look at the entire textile chain and come out with a textile policy. Nath said that his ministry would also organise a seminar on textiles in the next one month to discuss issues emerging in the post quota regime. Stating that the days of government subsidising inefficiency were over, Nath said that the industry would have to match the strength of its competitors in order to achieve a quantum jump in its exports. He said issues like the inverted duty structure needed to provide a level playing field to the domestic industry particularly under regional and bilateral agreement would be addressed soon. The minister also admitted that infrastructure was the......

...Organizational Learning (OL). Such a culture is essential to sustain the pursuit of success for the following reasons: • A learning culture is needed to overcome human Folly that is endemic in human nature and undermines judgment. See paper on Systems Thinking and Organizational Learning presented by Senge and Sterman at the Conference on Transforming Organizations, Sloan School of Management, MIT, May, 1990. Specifically, they have said: “For systems theorists, the source of poor performance, organizational failure, and inability to adapt is often to be found in the limited cognitive skills and capabilities of individuals compared to the complexities of the systems they are called upon to manage. A vast body of experimental work demonstrates that individuals make significant, systematic errors in diverse problems of judgment and choice. Training and repeated experience often do not help. Market mechanisms and financial incentives do not eliminate the errors.” They go on to say “Regardless of the tools employed the most important result of the mapping stage is to uncover critical assumptions and set the stage for challenging them”. This and subsequent statements emphasize success lies in emerging the Reality or Truth as stated by Senge later in his book “The Fifth Discipline”. York & Nicolaides echo this argumet in their paper in Human Resource Development & Review (May, 2012) and go on to state that productively executing the argument continues to be a......

Leveraging

...because the fund’s capital structure now includes more than just common shares. Funds may also create leverage by holding certain investments within the portfolio; this is referred to as “portfolio” leverage. The costs associated with leverage include offering costs to issue the debt or preferred shares, as well as ongoing interest, dividend and administrative expenses. A successful leverage outcome is one in which common shareholders are able to obtain a higher total return, often through higher income distributions, after considering the associated expenses from the incremental leverage capital. It is important to note that leverage is a tool that multiplies not only potential gains, but also losses of an investment portfolio. While it may help to create higher return and yield potential for the fund, it also increases the volatility of the fund’s net asset value (NAV), and potentially its distribution and market price as well. An Example of Leverage* $500 MM $15 MM Preferred Shares Dividends paid to Preferred Shareholders (3% yield) $1.5 B $1,000 MM Common Shares $75 MM Municipal bond portfolio yielding 5% Total income per year $60 MM Remainder payable to Common Shareholders (6% yield) * Hypothetical example for illustrative purposes only. Example does not include fund expenses and does not represent the leverage of any Nuveen closed-end fund. 3 A broad spectrum of leverage strategies Closed-end funds can be......

Outline the Types of Institutions Which Comprise the Emerging Global Civil Society. What Is Their Potential for Contributing to ‘Globalization with a Human Face’?

...institutions which comprise the emerging global civil society. What is their potential for contributing to ‘globalization with a human face’? Essay Number: 707004 Word Count: 3491 I. Introduction While globalization processes have propelled the world into an era of shrinking borders, rapid technological advances and intensifying connectedness, global civil society has risen at an equally rapid pace. Though global civil society is not a new phenomenon, the realm has become increasingly compelling in light of the explosion of civil society institutions that constitute a truly global sphere (Falk, 2000). By 2002, more than 30,000 international nongovernmental organizations existed alongside more than 20,000 global civil society networks, ninety percent of which had emerged during the previous three decades (Edwards, 2002). As numbers continue to increase, the true estimate of global civil society institutions is likely in the millions (Matthews, 2003). The growth of global civil society in the era of globalization leads naturally to questions regarding the institutions included in this sector and their contributions to the processes of globalization. Consequently, this essay will review the institutions that comprise the emerging global civil society and critically assess their potential to promote ‘globalization with a human face’, as defined by the 1999 United Nations Human Development Report. Many global civil society actors have......

Leveraging the Power of Your Human Capital

...------------------------------------------------- Creating and Sustaining Competitive Advantage by leveraging the power of Human Capital ------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------- “The most important thing that a person in a leadership position can do is ask what needs to be done. And most importantly, make sure that what needs to be done is clearly understood by every single employee in the enterprise” – Peter Drucker The greater velocity of information has accelerated the pace of everything in business. The complexities of increasingly discerning customers, thinning product differentiators, price-wars are forcing organizations to continuously innovate to create an edge over competition. And this is not all… The most significant trend affecting business that transcends all companies is about the ‘experience’ associated with the brand. Today, you don’t sell a product or service but in fact an experience that is not just unique, differentiated but also successfully delivers across all touch points of the organization. Delivery of such kind of experience requires a set of loyal, motivated and passionate employees who understand that their growth and success is linked with that of the organization. So, do you think employees in your organization can emphatically say “YES” to the following straight questions:- 1. I am treated with dignity and respect by everyone in the office? 2. I am provided with all the resources...
