After years of trial and error the United States of America was able to beat all odds and all other countries in putting a man on the Earth’s moon, two men to be exact. Neil Alden Armstrong, the first man to lay his feet on the moon’s surface and Edwin Eugene “Buzz” Aldrin Jr. who shortly followed became symbols of America’s self-proclaimed superiority. ...Sec N1/IAS218 Bothell Landing and the Sammamish River / Slough What causes a natural place to evolve over time to the way it looks now? Some of it is obvious, but I would propose that the development of business and commerce in the area have a bearing on how things evolve. In exploring this idea, I am drawn to the town where I live and what is now called Bothell Landing. The first time I saw Bothell Landing, was at the 4th of July celebration. They call it Founder’s Day. I remember walking down to a large cement amphitheater situated next to the Sammamish River. The slough is reminiscent of a very slow moving river with hardly any current. A foot bridge crosses the Slough and on the other side is a bike trail. I later found out that this is part of the Burke Gillman Trail. I had heard about it, but did not realize it parallels the slough through the Sammamish Valley. Standing on top of the bridge I began to notice how perfectly the banks were formed and how the distance between them was so consistent. I began to realize that this was not a natural waterway. Bothell Landing is an historical site with a number of houses and buildings preserved as they were a hundred years ago. One of those building houses the Bothell Historical Museum. It was actually one of early settlers, William A. Hannan’s house. It is very interesting to see what a state of the art house looked like from that period. There are four basic types of landing gear wheels, skids, skis, and floats. These types of landing gear are designed for a specific type of operation. Wheels are designed for payment and off airport operations. Skids are designed for helicopters, but some helicopters also use wheels. Skis are designed for off airport operations in the snow. Floats are designed for water operations and sometimes incorporate wheels into them for airport landings. There are three different types of landing gear arrangements they include tail draggers, tandem gear, and tricycle gear. Tail dragger gear are found on most early type of aircraft for an example the DC-3, and other small general aviation aircraft like the piper cub and similar type of aircraft. Tandem gear is rare on large aircraft other the military B-52, Harrier jet, and small general aviation glider type aircraft. Tricycle type gear is the most common landing gear used today. Tricycle gear is used on all aircraft from a small Cessna 172, to a large airbus A380. This gear can incorporate more than one wheel on the main struts to spread out the weight evenly. Opposite to this, a wet county is one that allows the sale of alcohol. However, this is the simplest way of looking at alcohol sales in Texas. Counties and localities have a identity crisis, they try to be “Texas independent” while at the same time mirroring the policies of other Bible belt localities outside of the state. As you take a closer look at wet counties in Texas, you will find that different localities have different levels of allowable alcohol sales and are referred to as ‘moist’ or ‘partly wet’. Designations are made based on the type of alcohol allowed and whether or not it can be purchased for home consumption, or be purchased at a licensed bar or restaurant. Religious groups primarily voice the arguments FOR dry counties; they say that alcohol has the potential to destroy families and wreak havoc on communities. In their eyes, limiting access to alcohol can curtail consumption thus lowering the chance of alcohol abuse. The company had lobbied for Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for permission to build wide body aircraft with two-person cockpits (rather than 3). Now, being granted the permission, the issue was that already 30 of the aircrafts were into various stages of production. Now, how should Thorton handle this situation? What are the options that he has? The decision had to be taken fast as the delivery dates were fast approaching. Commercial aircraft manufacturings posed various complexities as there were over 3.1 million parts to be connected by wiring over 85 miles. It is simply defined as a limited number of people who have shared objectives at work, who co-operate, on a temporary or permanent basis. In my case, this group was temporary, therefore only lasted for a short period of time. In order for the team to reach their goal they must set aims and objectives in order for each team member to follow. An effective team involves a leader who will communicate and encourage each member to contribute their ideas, in order to get an array of opinions. The atmosphere must also be calm and laissez faire as this will enable team members to el comfortable with each other encouraging them to voice their ideas as well as feeling comfortable and settled. Beals’s mother was a teacher, and her father worked for the railroad. Though they were better off than many other blacks in Arkansas, they were still subject to the same injustices as the rest of their community. As Beals describes in this book, most black people lived in constant fear of making white people angry and facing brutal, violent retaliation for even the smallest offense. ...Aircraft Landing/Departure process The process every airplane goes through is very complicated and depends on many things. For the purposes of simplicity, this project demonstrates the simplified process that wide body aircrafts go through once they touch down in Airports until they leave again. The total time the plane stays on the ground from the point of arrival to departure is 2-2.5 hours. Once the aircraft lands, it takes 5-15 minutes to reach its bay. After that, we are splitting events relevant to arrival, then departure. Arrival: First of all, the chocks are put on. These are blocks that stop the plane from moving and/or rolling backwards. Once they are attached, the following events take place simultaneously. The boarding bridge is attached (1-3mins), and passengers (PAX) disembark the plane (10-15mins). Two types of hi-loaders are used: One is for catering (that stays there for two hours), and water & toilet carts hi-loader (30 mins). The ground power unit, air conditioning unit, conveyor belt (for luggage) and tractor are all used for the full duration (2-2.5 hours). Fuel takes around 30 minutes. Bags that are destinated to arrive at the airport are taken out of their pallets, put onto the conveyer belt then taken via tractor to the terminal to be put onto the other conveyer belt accessible to passengers in time for them to come after passing through passport control.
