The assessment for Organizational Behavior consists of an examination [50% of module mark] and two cases [50% of module mark]. This assessment is Case 2 and worth 25% of your mark.

Read Case 11.3, pp. 350-351, in your text. Answer the following questions about the case.
1. Describe the conflict in this case.
The conflict in this case is a relationship conflict resulted mainly from a lack in the emotional intelligence from the Greek Team side. The Greek Team who are college students were making demeaning comments against the materials produced by the experienced workers without paying attention to the experienced worker’s feeling.

2. Using the conflict model in Chapter 11, a) identify the structural causes of the conflict
There are two causes:
I. Differentiation:
There is a cultural difference between the young generation “ the Greek Team” and the older workers. The Greek team which are college students considered throwing the comments even if those comments are demeaning comments ,as described in the case, against the older worker’s work will be accepted.
II. Communication Problem:
The Greek Team members lacked the necessary skills of communication. It was supposed from them to communicate with the older workers diplomatically rather than arrogantly.
Unfortunately, The Greek Team’s manner for the way of dealing with the older workers impacted negatively on the overall performance of Tamarack Industry and ultimately it may decrease customers satisfaction level.

b) discuss the escalation of the conflict. As a part of the conflict episodes is the conflict escalation and this was shown obviously in our case. However, the conflict escalation passed through different stages. The stages are arranged based on the time of their appearance: • Stage 1: Low morale The experienced workers became resentful • Second 2: Compliant. Mr. Dan received complaints from the experienced workers • Level 3: Resistant(Passive)
The experienced workers refused to work on short productions runs only. They asked to distribute the short runs and long runs between the groups equally • Level 4: Resistant (Active).
The experienced workers aimed to retaliate with sabotage. Their intention was to slow or stop the production line of the Greek Team

3. Would bringing in a third party help resolve the conflict? If no, why not? If yes, what kind of third party intervention would you suggest?
Yes, I recommend for a third party intervention. Mr. Dan is a neutral person to conflicting parties and he can represent the Third-Party Conflict Resolution. The kind of intervention that I would suggest is Mediation due to it offers the highest satisfaction with process and outcomes.

4. What would is the best conflict resolution style to apply?
The best conflict resolution that I would suggest to apply is Problem-Solving. The reasons of selecting Problem-Solving approach are as follows: • The interest of both parties are not totally opposing. Both parties aim to maximize the benefit of Tadamark Industry • It aims to find a solution that will be financial for this conflict. This is can be done by avoiding breaking up the Greek Team as well as offer them a short course explaining how to deal with people effectively in the workplace. • It has the win-win orientation. Both parties at the end will be satisfactory.

5. Discuss a business situation in which you have seen or experienced conflict. Propose a solution using a conflict resolution method discuss in the chapter. Why did you select this method?
There is a live example which I have experienced with it in my working life. I am working in process engineering department as process engineer. The conflict happens usually if we as process engineers recommend to increase any particular plant productivity due to there is a high demand in the market as well as our study reveals that the plant is capable to handle this increment in the production. The conflict happens when Operation engineers taking care for that intended plant refuse to increase the plant productivity due to the reasons mentioned below. • They would face a shortage in the raw material required to comply with the long term commitment. • Maintenance works will raise up once the plant productivity gets increase more than normal and this is a natural phenomena. Operation engineers are not aware Maintenance department has the capability to handle up normal number of maintenance works without impacting reliability.

ANSWER The conflict is constructive. It aims at the end to improve responsiveness of all disciplines in case of any upset that may could happen. Structural Source of Conflict: It is under incompatible goals source of conflict. Process engineers aim to utilize the chance of market demand and produce more product. On the other hand, operation engineers aim to run the plant smoothly without any possible upset. Conflict Handling Styles: Based on the experience, the perfect handling style is Problem-Solving. Both parties, we as process engineers and operation engineers have the same goal which is maximizing the benefit of SABIC. Structural Approaches to Conflict Resolution The main two approaches will be as following: • Increase resources Process engineers tend to provide operation engineers by the required study to make sure that the plant can achieve the targeted new production safely and effectively. • Clarify the Rules and Procedures The third party is responsible to furnish operation and process engineers by the rules and procedures governing the consumption and production targets within the plant.

Third Party Intervention:

planning department specialists represent the third party for conflict resolution. They follow typically Inquisitional Strategy to resolve the conflict. The reasons of applying Inquisitional Strategy are as follows: • Planning specialists have a contact with raw material suppliers and they check if there enough raw material quantities • Planning specialists can forecast the real market demand from the products • Planning department is responsible to approve the budget asked by maintenance department if more manpower is required.…...

Consequences of Domestic Oil Consumption in Ksa

...the domestic consumption is steadily increasing. Despite various programs implemented to diversify the economy by the government, Saudi Arabia is a “Petro state” meaning its economy is heavily dependent on oil related export revenues. In the Kingdom, the oil and gas industry accounts for approximately 75% of the budget incomes, 45% of the GDP and 90% of the total export revenues. Fattouh argues that it is not unlikely that the increasing domestic demand for crude can deteriorate the spare capacity that Saudi possesses. It should be noted that it is mostly the spare capacity, which constitutes the importance of the Saudi regime in worldwide oil market. The spare capacity is used as a cushion policy, in which KSA holds 1.5 to 2mbd that can be brought quickly into production. The spare capacity often defined as an “insurance policy” to counteract “unforeseen supply” disruptions in the oil market such as wars, strikes, natural disasters reference. Also it is the ability and experience to manage the spare capacity that the country holds, is the main reason behind western powers to back the regime up and consequently the survival of the current regime from the Arab Uprisings. The energy demand in the Kingdom increases when the income per capita increases, but it is not declining when it is not. The wasted amounts due to the low efficient use encourage by subsidies, can limit the country’s export volume in the future as......

KSA is committed to inform and to help prospective students for smooth adjustment to new academic and cultural environment on campus. In addition, KSA represents Korean organization and publicizes its existence and activities to local and international organization. One of most important elements of KSA that allows it to bond is communication. The fact that the person is from South Korea does not mean that he or she is openly invited to join group. The KSA requires personal or private invitations. The new or prospective students need to be invited by the current members. They also need to attend the Mass Meeting in Korea or on campus to sign up as a member, get a group T-shirt, and a membership card. Even if everyone, including non-KSA members, may attend the events and activities, the invitations are sent out privately through E-mail by the president of group only to current members. Thus, the outside people need to be informed by the members or join the group to be the members. However, states oppositely that anyone even the people from outside of the group are welcomed to engage in joint activities and events without private invitations or limitations. ... In early 2009 Nielsen Mobile surveyed teenagers with cell phones. On average each sent and received an astounding 2,272 text messages per month. The national School Boards Association estimated that high and middle school students devoted an average of nine hours to social networking each week. Add blogging, email IM, tweets and other digital time and you can see what a crazy hurried communication system people experience today. Nearly all of their communication tools involve the exchange of written words alone. At least phones, cellular and otherwise, allow the transmission of tone of voice, pauses and the like. But even these clues are absent in the text-dependent world. Users insert smiley-faces (emoticons) into emails, but they don't see each others' actual faces. They read comments on Face book, but They don't "read" each others' posture, hand gestures, eye movements, shifts in personal space and other nonverbal—and expressive—beha Back in 1959, anthropologist Edward T. Hall labeled these expressive human attributes "the Silent Language." Hall argued that body language, facial expressions and stock mannerisms function "in juxtaposition to words," imparting feelings, attitudes, reactions and judgments in a different register. This is why, Hall explained, U.S. diplomats could enter a foreign country fully competent in the native language and yet still flounder from one miscommunication to another, having failed to Decode the manners, gestures and subtle......

...Find a recent article (no more than a year old) that identifies KSAs that will be critical for managers in the immediate future. Provide a summary of the article (and each KSA in the article) and discuss its management development implications in your discussion forum. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs) are determined through qualifying education, experience or background. When responding to job vacancies, the application should display KSAs that are specifically addressed in the advertisement. If the individual(s) skills match the KSAs in the advertisement closely than they are a better prospect for the job. KSAs are important because they help determine the most qualified candidates from the unqualified candidates for vacant positions. Prospect (applicant) KSAs are compared to the skills and requirements for the positions listed. The article I chose was a government item titled KSAs to be Phased Out. This article is about the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) wanting to phase out the KSA questionnaire that is given to applicants that apply for government jobs. The reason the OPM would like to discontinue it is because they feel many individuals who could possibly be good candidates for the jobs will not apply because of the lengthy KSA questionnaire. There can be many advantages and disadvantages to phasing out the KSA questionnaire, however OPM feel individuals should be able to apply with a resume like they would for private companies. This decision will bring......

Health education with health promotion and the situation in Saudi Arabia Health education is any learning experience combination formulated to assist people alongside communities in enhancing their health through increasing their knowledge and/or impelling their attitude (Sharma & Romas, 2012). In recent decades, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) has prioritized in health education and promotion to enhance the delivery of health care in all levels; primary, secondary and tertiary. Nonetheless, regardless of these enhancements, health education and promotion has received an immense challenge of language barriers between providers of healthcare and the public. Most of the healthcare providers in KSA are not from that country and they also do not speak Arabic (International Conference on Informatics, Management, and Technology in Healthcare et al, 2014). Apparently, bridging the language gap is essential for enhancing health education and promotion. Previously, health care providers have tried numerous tactics to connect with public including the use of the internet alongside social media, promotional items such as leaflets and posters, and information conveyed through text-messaging services. Ksa Review

...Literature Review While completing the task statements and the KSA statements I realized that this type of job analysis could be very effective when creating a new position. There are many different strategies that have been used to determine what type of analysis should be used for what each individual company may need. I came across an article that did a study and review on what KSA’s would be required to do a job analysis that was based on groups, in order to determine what KSA’s are needed for teamwork. The study concentrated on three areas based on groups. The first one was KSA’s instead of personality traits. Second, team KSA’s as opposed to technical KSA’s and last team versus individual analysis. The article stated that focusing on KSA’ s characterize traits such as trust, helpfulness and supportiveness which are all excellent traits to have when working with a team. The study focused more on team instead of technical KSA’s because team was directed more towards social and interpersonal skills that are needed for teamwork. The team versus individual part of the study focused on each individual within the team specifically because each team member is an individual hired separately from the other team members and when they are evaluated that is also on an individual basis. So to focus on the team itself would not be fair to each individual. I read another article that talked about strategic job analysis and hoe the KSA’s are used to measure the effective......

One would prefer The United Arab Emirates due to its superiority in education, traffic system and women rights to Saudi Arabia. Education is one of the vital needs of a society. Its value can be reflected on school students starting from elementary to high school. The educational system in KSA is known to have low standards. Not only curriculums there are noticeably weak and basic comparing to the international standards, but also they're being taught in Arabic and missing the international language, English. However, all universities around the worlds even in KSA are providing an English system which will create a large obstacle to students who graduated from Saudi's schools. According to the Ministry of Education in Saudi Arabia (2010), the studies show that about 85% of students who graduated from Saudi Arabia are spending at least one year of their life after graduating from their high school just to learn English. In contrast to KSA, UAE is considered to have better level of education. The system provided there is well-organized for all generations. Curriculums are being taught to prepare students for their universities starting from elementary school by offering them some subjects in English, such as Math, Chemistry and Physics. Moreover, the students have several options of majors after graduating from the high school. They also......
