The leaves are turning brown again. Cool and brisk, the wind blows up the torn sweater the old man wears. Visibly shaking and uncertain of his surroundings, he’s a husk of his former self. His eyes dilate, his face is melting. Literally melting. He collapses into a small dirty heap, his eyes shut and a final breath escapes his lips. A young boy walks by and asks for money, he too broke and dirty. Another shows up and prods his silent corpse. This is where our story begins. Set in Detroit, MI during the great recession, it’s a story based on the collapse of the withering economic catastrophe known as the Automotive Industry. I would like to ask for a possibility to build a film around the concept of the desolation felt in that town and of this place. But with only $500 in hand and an old VHS video recorder, there’s only so much I can create with these limited resources. It’ll be set in front of a Party Plus Market Off of Wyoming St, an area of town notorious for its high and violent crime rate. Its daring for sure, but I wish to capture the true feeling of a desperate environment in one of the most violent and crime riddled cities in America. If there’s a chance to negotiate an advance of at least $1000 to put towards filming expenses, it’d be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time. EXT. LIQUOR STORE:
It’s dark outside. Street lights dimly glow on the entrance of a local liquor store. An old man in tattered clothes and a Walmart welcome vest is seen stumbling up the sidewalk. He’s bleeding out from his ears and nose. OLD MAN: brrrrggghhhmmmmuuuhhhh The old man falls to his knees unable to support his own weight. Blood is seeping through his clothes. The old man clutches his chest as his breathing shallows. He slumps to the ground, a pool forms under him. Two teenage boys are seen walking up to the convenience store to the…...

"I Do" the Day I Married the Love of My Life

...1 1/16/13 “I Do” After almost a year of planning, tasting cake, sending out invitations, finding and booking a reception hall, music DJ, and church, the day has finally arrived. The date was August 21st 2010, and it was the day I married the love of my life. The day I met Amy, and every day I have spent with her since that day has been the greatest experience of my life so far. I woke up that morning with a ton of thoughts and emotions running through my head. I felt excited, nervous, happy, and anxious all at the same time. After I got up and had something to eat, I started to get ready when I found a gift from my fiancé in my bag. It came with a card that said; “Can’t wait until I see you today. Love Always Amy”. I unwrapped the gift, opened the box and found Superman cuff links. It was the perfect gift because I am a huge Superman collector and fan. I finished getting ready and started helping my fiancé’s son Damian get dressed. I remember thinking to myself “what a perfect day”. The sun was out, and there was not a cloud in the morning sky. The weather was not the main reason the day was perfect. The day was perfect because I was marrying my best friend, and becoming the stepfather of two incredible kids that I love as if they are my own children. I finished helping Damian get dressed, and then after taking some pictures we headed over to the church. Once we arrived at the church and took some more pictures, it was time to start the service. I stood alone......

I Love My Life

...you hear them. Speaker Martina Rachel Romesh Mark John Summary statement I have a clear policy on when I can have distractions. I was surprised to find I couldn’t work like I had expected to. It’s often difficult for me to find the ideal working conditions. My expertise makes it easier for me to listen to music while I work. Whether I listen to music or not depends on the amount of attention the task requires. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. a) b) c) d) e) Martina: “It depends what I’m doing. I can listen to music of any kind when I’m doing a translation, I like it, it helps me even, but if I’m doing some complex maths then I have to have silence. It depends on the level of concentration that’s needed, I guess.” Rachel: “No, it has to be complete silence for me. It’s a real problem actually because I live in a shared house with lots of other students in the middle of a noisy city. It’s very difficult to get real peace and quiet. When I can I go back to my parents who live out in the country. It’s good when I have lots of exams to study for because it’s so peaceful out there – no disturbances at all!” Romesh: “A bit of background buzz in the office is essential for me. I like working in a lively atmosphere, people around, chat, the radio on perhaps. It generates an energy which I find helps me concentrate. I once came in to work on a Sunday when I had a big project to finish off – the deadline was the next day – and I thought it would be quiet on a Sunday, no one else around. Well, it......

Life as I View It

...What does life means? Life, for me, is the most precious thing that everyone has the opportunity to have. According to Mother Teresa, “life is an opportunity; life is precious”. She gave life fifteen wonderful meanings but I totally admire the latter two simply because life is as precious as we are. God given us this life we have now. No matter how hard or easy to handle it, we should treasure such a precious gift from God. Life is then priceless and freely given. We don’t need to demand for it. Life is just up there waiting for us. It’s only up to us if we claim it or not. Upon claiming it, how do we view life then? How should it be and why would it be? Do we need to be the same in viewing life or it would be our own choice? If I were to ask, it would be our choice. Life as I view it is like a book. No matter how quick you turn the pages, for you to learn, you would probably go back and read completely. In life, no matter how you want to escape from your problems, you would not be able to do it. Whether you like it or not, you need to face whatever your problem is. Just challenge yourself as life is full of challenges. Who would say that living is easy? Yes, it is happy to live. But life is a challenge and is not absolutely easy. Of course, to give up is not the solution. Life must go on no matter what happen. Lewis Carroll says that “If you don’t know where you are going, any road will get you there.” So it’s better to just ride on it as life is also a journey. We do......

Nursing and Life

... English 0310 November 24, 2009 Nursing and Life From an early age I have always had a strong interest in Nursing, and have been involved with it since age fifteen. In year fifteen I had to care for my great- grandma, she had diabetes. After caring for her I know I wanted to make nursing my career. I started to take it more seriously. The experience I’ve gained helped me to develop my nursing skills. I am currently in school to obtain my bachelor’s degree in nursing to become an Registered Nurse. I read medical books and learn different things about Nursing. Aside from school, I enjoy working out, cleaning up, and spending time with my family. I have found this to be a welcome break from normal study, allowing me to enjoy my social life. My present interest in Nursing is more in the Labor& Delivery based, although I do enjoy all areas of Nursing. I’ve visit different nursing homes to see what are the duties of a Registered Nurse. I was asked to help with an event at the nursing home to help serve food, I really enjoyed the atmosphere. Throughout the day I acted as a Nurse, helping the elderly with different medical needs. The Life I Deserve

...Annalyn B. Alvarez The Life I Deserve Life would be the best gift God had given us. Without this, nothing seems to be possible here on earth. Life keeps us on breathing and living. But with this topic, I am here to talk about my life specifically on how I made it up to here now. Ladies and gentlemen, I am Annalyn Alvarez. Good afternoon! We do have different lifestyle, for the primary reasons that we came from different families and different places, but one thing is for sure, we all have our dreams and plans with our life. I came from a simple family in Calatagan Batangas. I attended a public elementary school and with the help of scholarship, I attended a private sectarian high school. Living becomes so much tougher during those high school days because of financial problem but still I studied very hard during my three years in high school and became on top. Senior year came and with the help of my sister’s husband it became less stressful with us, though it became that way, I felt that I am flopping in my academic subjects and didn’t concentrate well. I don’t know why but studying is not the priority anymore though I knew that I am aiming to be on one of the top students again to gain scholarships in my chosen university. But, graduation came and I didn’t make it. I am an ambitious person and I really have a big dream so it was a big disappointment and as for me it was my first time! It may seem just a little problem but this started all my regrets. The dream to......

...Challenges in life can either enrich you or poison you. You are the one who decides." ― Steve Maraboli I believe that challenges and changes in life are the defining moments for a person. In the past decade I have faced several ones, which now seem as a blur but at the time were the harshest I had ever experienced. I first set foot on Canadian soil on June of 2008 after spending 14 years in my homeland Pakistan. I had moved into an environment surpassingly different than the one I came from and it was my first time something so drastic had happened. It was my mother's decision, a decision my father did not entirely approve of. Due to this reason, barriers arose between them, which only got worse over time. In addition to coping with an array of challenges and learning to accustom myself to the language, culture and customs of a strange land, I now had to confront to the rising tension in my family. In that time I had realized a few things. Despite the fact that I had no control over the changes happening in my life, I had full control over the changes happening inside of me. I could either allow myself to be completely taken over, or face the challenges and let them nourish my mind instead. Through these ordeals, I learned that whatever tension my parents had between them should just stay between them and not affect my relation with them or myself. I learned that despite the fact that I am now living in a place completely alien to me, it is rather an adventure not...

Life Before I Could Write

...An Issue Of Confidence I haven’t written in quite a while, and that was because either I got lazy or because I thought things were getting better. I’ll be honest. Nothing is getting better. For one, there is a girl I currently like. The friendship, relationship or what ever you want to call it began on the Internet, and when I see her in person, I cannot even muster the courage to talk to her. My shyness, and confidence issues really are beginning to hinder any social progress for me in this world. The thing is that she might be one of the few girls that I’ve ever liked, and I do not want to screw this up. When I’m in her vicinity, I begin to become extremely self-conscious. I think about my face, my hair, and my breath, just about everything. I only think about the negatives but not the positives. Sometimes I ask the question, how can she possibly like me at all. I don’t find my self to be handsome, and I know for a fact that she is extremely beautiful. Tomorrow her and some other people are coming to my house, and I do not want to mess up again. Should I try my best to overcome my shyness? I know that if I do start talking to her, I will scrutinize everything I say, and become extremely nervous if I think I’ve made a mistake. I don’t think I can possibly survive in the ”real world” if I do not overcome these confidence/shyness issues, because its becoming quite extreme so I’m hoping that from now on I can do something about it. I have no one to seek advice from, tomorrow...

Images Bring Life of Lost Amazon Tribe I

...Images bring life of lost Amazon tribe into sharp relief Q: What do you understand about the Amazon Tribes and the issues it faces? From this extract, we understand several things about the Amazon Tribes and the issue it faces. Firstly, we discover that the tribe is ‘isolated.’ The word ‘isolated’ implies that the tribe has no contact with the outside world. In the next paragraph, we learn that the tribes are also self-sufficient as they are able to grow their own crops for food such as ‘maize, sweet potato, pumpkins, bananas and peanuts.’ This implies that despite the lack of resources these people were provided in the Amazon Rainforest, they have the skills to be able to craft their own supplies such as food in order to survive. In addition, we also learn that, like any other societies in the world, the Amazon tribe has their own unique culture. We learn that the men of the tribes wear ‘cotton waistbands and some have headdresses.’ Not only does this show that these tribes have their own unique traditions as previously mentioned, but it can also indicate that there are different hierarchy levels in the tribe. We get the impression that the ones that wear ‘headdresses’ are the chief or main leader of the tribe and the others are just normal members of the tribe. Similarly in the English society, our queen wears the crown to symbolize her status. Furthermore, one of the issues faced by the Amazon tribe is the fact that there is a chance of the tribe being captured......

I Am the Bread of Life

...Liberty University I AM THE BREAD OF LIFE JOHN, BIBL323 PROFESSOR: DR. DAVID WALLACE BY: LEAH MILLER AUGUST, 2012 I AM THE BREAD OF LIFE The most popular period in the ministry of Christ begins in John chapter 6, (Towns, pointecast) and John begins this chapter with the events of the most popular of the sign miracles: the feeding of 5,000. It was the time of the Feast of Passover, and multitudes had traveled to Jerusalem for the purpose of attending this mandatory event. Jesus would use the miracle of feeding the 5,000 to satisfy their physical hunger, but also to illustrate their need for spiritual nourishment. [1] Jesus went to the mountain to sit with His disciples, and a large multitude of people had followed Him due to the many miracles he had performed. The people did not follow Him because they believed that He was the Son of God, but because they believed that He could feed them food to satisfy their physical hunger.[2] They were physically hungry, and Jesus used the boy’s lunch of five loaves and two fishes to feed the multitude. The Passover combined with the sign miracle of feeding the five thousand were the perfect backdrop for the Bread of Life discourse. Later that evening the disciples went out on the lake in a boat to head for Capernaum, and a storm came up. Jesus walked on the water to join them, and their boat miraculously ended up at the shore where they were headed. The multitude from the day before waited for Jesus on the other......

Three Strategies That I Will Apply in My Personal and Academic Life, the Impact, and the Effectiveness

...1. Organizing information I noted from the chapter that “organized information is easier to find” especially if you are selective about the information, organize it in a specific way to make it easier to locate and to remember, and associate it with related information. For example, in my personal life, this strategy would be useful for sorting and saving important emails whether at home or at work. There are times when my inbox is full of information - inspirational, motivational, tips, and up-coming events. At work, information on new banking policies and procedures or product launches are all usually filtered down via email. It is sometimes difficult to refer to the information quickly when you can’t remember when the email was sent or who sent it. Since reading this chapter, I have started to save specific email information as word documents grouped under different folders. This has proven to be effective for linking related topics in the respective folders which makes locating the information quicker. In my academic life, I will first note the topic to be studied and pay greater attention to the learning objectives. This would then make it easier to skim through the chapter and specifically note the more important material and review that first as well as to research any related topics by using other resources. The chapter also noted the importance of paying attention to any information in bold type and any illustrations. This strategy would greatly increase......
