Skills Ranking
Top Five Bottom Five 1. Time Management 1. Understanding Technology 2. Setting Priorities 2. Research Skills 3. Stress Management 3. Reading Comprehension 4. Financial Management 4. Math 5. Communication 5. Proper etiquette

*How can your top five ranking skills help you in the classroom environment? I think that all five of my skill ranking or goals. I see several of these as goals. Goals are something that you set for yourself and master. First time management is critical in my life as a mother of four, wife, and full time student. Learning how to juggle everything I need as well as what they need can definitely be a challenge sometimes. Learning how to time manage will be essential to my success as a student. I have to understand that my school work needs done along with everything else. I make lists and input everything that I need to remember and plan for. I carry it everywhere with me, and keep me sane some days. This flows right into setting priorities have a certain schedule was necessary in my life before returning to college. Now it is even more appetent that keeping my daily schedule planned will help keep me on top of my school work. I have to learn that certain things like laundry will wait till I am done doing my school work, or that my husband can go to the store instead of me. Doing things on a schedule or at a certain time will also reduce my STRESS, and I will be able to manage it more efficiently. Stress Management is another key part of being a successful student and keeping me on my career path. Being stressed out is not going to enable me to stay on task or focus on much of anything let alone school. Financial management is something that I do very well. I am the type of person that has to know when money is coming and when it is going and how much of both. I check our…...

...Analyzing Internet Sources What did you learn? I learned that most of the websites that students overlook are actually the websites that are the most helpful. Many students use search websites such as: Google and yahoo to research information for their paper. Most websites that look like they have less information are mostly overlooked because of the glances. Student should examine all parts of the internet when using it as a research source. I’ve learned to always examine the URL, the synopsis, bookmark sites and research lists. Another great source of the internet is the local or school library. Many students including me overlook the library because it’s not convenient as the internet. The library takes up too much time versus the internet with all today’s new technology. I have overlooked researching at the library many times because the library takes up to much time and the internet requires less time. What did you not learn? I did not learn how to start a simple research using the internet or using textbooks from the library. I personally think using the internet as a research source is somewhat very difficult than actually going into the library. Most students don’t realize a bad site, the ones that ask you to register with them for more information. I also didn’t learn how to use the internet or the library as a research source without plagiarism even though I know. Many students think its okay to copy straight from the book or internet. Plagiarism is not taught...

...Gen 105 Week 1 DQ 1 What were your initial thoughts on distance learning before you started your program? Why did you choose distance learning over a traditional face to face learning environment? In what ways your view of distance learning change since you started your classes? My initial thoughts on distance learning before I started my program were a great way to obtain a degree and stay still in the comfort of your own home. A way to be successful in your career if you have a busy life and traditional face to face learning is not an option for you. I decided to choose distance learning over a traditional face to face learning environment because it is a better technique to manage your time between work, family and school. I can set my own time for education and still have ability to manage my time wisely. With 24 hours I can log in and submit my home work any time, if compare to traditional face to face learning environment I have to be in class at certain time and if I do not show up for the class. I will be marked absence. But as distance learning there is no set time that you have to be online and all you need is basic knowledge of internet. Ways my view of distance learning change since I started my classes is that I have made the correct decision in pursuing my education. First I was skeptical about distance learning programs because I was not familiar with the online classroom, how to submit assignment and how to reach your instructor. After visiting the......

...Tim Intro Ed October 17,2013 Idealism is the philosophy that I would choose to teacher like. Why, because I feel growing up that the way I was taught. For example when we were younger we was all taught cruise but, not all of us use cruise now. We was all taught that when we was younger so in idealism teacher is the type of teacher that will teacher you cruise because of the history and generations before us learned it so they will teach it. This is the type of teacher I would want to be like because I feel the history behind us is still very important. I would also teacher some new event to my student as well but will also touch basic on everything I’ve learned in the past plus what’s I didn’t learned that I believe is important.+ Event that happen in my past is what makes me a strong believer in a idealism would be my third grade teacher. She left an in impression on my life by her teacher style. She was the type of teacher that would show students hands on activity but also new some other learned visual, and those who didn’t learn by hands on or visuals was learning by hearing. When she taught us are time table she taught us all three ways. She would should us visual learned on the black board, the hands on how to count on your hands. Setting Goals Gen 105

...CheckPoint: Setting Goals My first personal goal is to graduate with my Bachelors degree. That is a big deal to me. I am the oldest to my family and the only one of my siblings to not graduate college. To do this, my short term goals are to first get my associates degree. My deadline is to do this by the end of 2011. To do this, I must pass each one of my classes. I must set a deadline to accomplish this by the end of each class. I also must study hard to learn the material. If I do that, I will get my degree in 4-5 years. My second goal is to start a family. My wife and I cannot have children of our own so we will have to adopt. To do this there are some classes we will have to take as well as inspections we will have to pass through our state. We have chosen to be foster parents. I cannot place a deadline on when we will actually be able to adopt a child because that is out of our hands but we can complete the other steps. We have decided to have all of the classes we need to have completed by the end of next year. We next wish to have the home study finished by May of 2012. We want to buy a house before that and we are saving up a down payment. We are on track to be able to purchase a home by October of 2011. By doing these things, we hope to be parents before we are each 35....

...Gen 105 week 4 Academic Honesty Found in the EBSCO data base I found an article titled “Honesty and Heroes”, I found this publication after using the the search term “Academic Honesty.” “Honesty and Heroes,” was published by Sara Staats, Julie M. Hupp, and Anna M. Hagley in July 2008 for the Journal of Psychology. I found that Paul Panek peer reviewed an early draft of this article. A second article “Academic Honesty and Online Courses” published in 2006 by Therese C. Grijalva, Clifford Nowell, and Joe Kerkvliet. “Academic Honesty and Online Courses” was also found using the EBSCO database. There is nothing provided to show this article has been peer reviewed. “Honesty and Heroes,” further explains the author’s theory on academic misconduct versus heroism. Academic misconduct and dishonesty is almost always an action committed by acting dishonest, says “Honesty and Heroes.” A student who chooses to be dishonest cheats; there for a cheater cheating weakens the credibility of a person and dis credits the degree earned. Essentially a degree obtained with cheating or other unethical effort lacks value. The idea behind “Honesty and Heroes” is there lays a similarity between heroism and academic honesty. The integrity of a student characteristics who make it a goal to succeed through the requirements presented will have formed the tools to succeed. A person chooses to go to college and become a student should......

...I have recently discussed with some co-workers that I will be attending school again. When they asked me where was I going, my reply was the University of Phoenix. My co-workers looked at me funny, and I knew exactly what they were thinking. I told them that I was going to school online. They immediately were intrigued by this and started asking questions. Is it harder online? “No,” it’s easy. You just have to have a routine. Everything is done in weekly blocks. There is a calendar that shows exactly what assignments need to be done within the week. You see all the course materials, and even an online library. There is no need to even buy textbooks. How does the assignments work? All the assignments are accomplished through “Forums,” similar to Blogs. The teacher posts a discussion questions and other assignments in the forum. All the classmates respond to the discussion questions and you receive feedback from the other students. All the responses thread onto each other creating what is called, “Threaded Discussion”. Are your conversations Live? “Well,” Probably not, but it is possible. What is great about forums is I can post my responses at anytime of the day from any computer. All the students post their assignments and Discussion Questions when they find it convenient for them, just as long as they are not late turning in their assignments. This is called, “Asynchronous Communication” How do you have time for school? The flexibility of this......

...SURVIVAL GUIDE GEN 105 DUE January 11, 2009 What personal action plans would I develop to achieve success for? Following topics: o Using Axia's Educational Resources o Upholding Academic Honesty o Setting and Achieving Goals o Managing Time Wisely o Fostering Reading Comprehension and Retention o Applying Personality and Learning Styles The personal action plan I would develop for using Axia's Educational Resources to achieve success would be to construct a hard copy overview of all the resources and refer to it during my course work. By constructing this outline of sorts I will be providing myself with a reference that will show me where to go for the specific project information I am in need of at that time. ...am. I find that doing this exercise helps me to prioritize and avoid time-wasting. I also cross-reference my schedule with my son’s high school extracurricular schedule. Importing my schedule with my son’s schedule on the same calendar helps me identify overlaps ahead of time so I can plan ahead. When I have overlapping events, I can use my lunch hour to do assignments. I also have the flexibility to work from home that frees up 90 minutes I would normally spend on my commute. I can also use that time for assignments. Fostering Reading Comprehension and Retention Comprehending and retaining what is read is essential when creating college papers. Using the Survey Question, Read, Recall, and Review (SQ3R worksheet Appendix G Gen 105 syllabus) reading technique is a good way to breakdown what is read to ensure there is a complete understanding the piece. I read with a highlighter handy to mark off important key points I think I may need to revisit later. At the beginning of each week, take the time to skim through and prioritize the reading assignments. By doing this simple step helps me to schedule my time so I am not rushing at the last-minute to cram all my reading in. Applying Personality and Learning Styles My learning style is still a work in progress. Knowing that I am an organizer/giver provides me with starting point to develop academically and personally. I deal with different personality types every day in my job as a customer service......
