Functions of Management Paper
Management is the process of working with people and resources to accomplish organizational goals (Bateman & Snell, 2009). Four major functions of management exist to aid in making this process successful. The four functions of management are planning, organizing, leading, and controlling. Management needs to be efficient and effective to be successful. The four functions of management are needed in organizations just starting as much as well established organizations.
Planning is the first step in the four functions of management. Planning is specifying the goals to be achieved and deciding in advance the appropriate actions needed to achieve those goals (Bateman & Snell, 2009). Planning includes determining the current situation as well and predicting the future situations, establishing goals, making decisions in which the company will participate in, determining business strategies and establishing the resources needed to accomplish the company’s ambitions. Planning plays a large role in the management at my company and is extremely important in the success of the company.
Managers have to determine lead times to get parts and materials in the door in sufficient time. This affects the date the completed parts ship out the door, which affects the dollars shipped for the month as well as making the customer’s final ship dates on the sales orders. Managers also have to plan the time it takes to build the parts from the time the materials come in the door to properly calculate if we can make the customer’s final ship date. Planning in my organization ultimately affects the success of our company as a whole. The company relies on each department manager to properly plan the times so the process runs smooth and we are shipping parts on time to the…...

...Functions of Management Nicole Perez July 30, 2012 MGT/330 Richard Amabile In an organization a manager should set goals and ensure that the employees can accomplish the goals that were set for them. The four functions that managers use to make sure that their employees reach the organizational goal are planning, organizing, leading and controlling. These functions have proved to be valuable in a work place setting to achieve the goals that have been set. Planning is one of the functions of management. It can be the most important of the four functions. Planning is a key part of managers’ job roles. If planning is not done well it will affect the other functions. When planning, managers should have a second course of action to achieve the goals just in case their first plan does not work out. Each plan that the organization makes has an impact on the organizations work. Managers should evaluate their plans to see if they are successful and if a plan is not as effective as they planned they would need to make changes to it. Planning is set in place to help the organization reach long term or even short term goals. The second function of management is organizing. According to (Bateman, T. S., & Snell, S.A.) organizing is assembling and coordinating the human, financial, physical, informational, and other resources needed to achieve goals. Organizing would include doing activities such as, catch the attention of people and bring their attention to the......

If a business does not use these functions then it will lose productivity and in turn suffer losses of money. Businesses all across the globe use the “core four” functions of management. These four functions are planning, organizing, leading, and controlling. Each one has a different need for a different purpose in order to achieve maximum results. ...Functions of Management Paper University of Phoenix Management theory, Application, and Practice October 25, 2010 Functions of Management Paper This paper identifies the four functions of Management and their relations to a combined government and military job. The four functions of management are Planning, leading, organizing, and controlling (Timmreck, 2009). The paper identifies how internal stakeholders of Norfolk Naval Shipyard apply the four functions of management. It is apparent that these four functions of Management within both military and civilian organizations have simulularities and work together to accomplish their goals. The United States Navy is a military service that receives orders from higher servicemen of rank to complete various missions at sea. The word “goals” in the military is not used; instead they use the words “Objective or Mission.” Norfolk Navy Shipyards is a Navy ship repair facility in Portsmouth Virginia since 1767 (October 25, 2010), which applies the four functions of management in its own way. Norfolk Navy Shipyard repair facility repairs and overhauls Navy ships and uses the words, agenda, commitments, and plan of actions instead of the word “goals” when conducting both administrative and mechanical work. The book, “Administration Industrielle et Generale,” detailed the original management functions. From these original details, the process school of management was born. Directing, or Leading is the third step, this includes, managing tasks such as communicating, encouraging and reassuring employees or team members to complete goals. Lastly, we have Controlling, this is the final step and deals with monitoring the performance of the organization to ensure the ultimate goals are being met.
