Reflection #1

Let me just start with saying that high school is completely different from college. I am looking forward to finishing my high school career at SCFCS and I am excited on what comes to this new adventure. I have learned a new couple tricks at the seminar which will be in use for all my subjects, I also have figured out how to do finish all my assignments on time, and last but not the least just some challenges I am trying to overcome.

Last week on Thursday on the 3rd of September, a lady from the SCF library came in to talk to the class. I learned a couple things from her. I already knew coming in how citations are very critical in college but I did not know how to cite properly. The staff are experts when it comes to that, they are willing to help us cite properly. Another thing I found very helpful is that we already have $5 dollars in our account that we can use for free printing, I thought that was pretty nice of the school to do that. Mostly I was very intrigued about the Data Base on their website. It is very helpful for any kind of research papers, whether it is English, Science, or even History. The thing that is really cool about the database is that they are ALL reliable sources. I actually already used it a few days ago for my English paper and it definitely saved me a lot of time.

Taking 6 subjects all at once equals tons of endless homework. I was pretty stressed out the first week of school because I kept thinking to myself that it is IMPOSSIBLE to finish all of the assignments on time. So my first step was purchasing a huge agenda. What I did was make a checklist under each subject of each day and my rule it to finish it no more than 2 days. Since there is so much free time being in college, I spend those gaps between classes going to the ARC and finishing my Homework and also getting help at the same time which is efficient. I…...

First Day at School

...My first day at school My mother accompanied me to school on the first day. Other parents accompanied their children as well. We all waited in front of the school office. Soon a teacher came and led us to some classrooms. There we were put into four separate classes. This was when some children began to cry as the parents were not allowed into the classrooms. I did not cry because I had been to kindergarten before. Actually my mother went home soon after for she knew I would be all right. It was an enjoyable time for me as I got to know my new classmates. The teacher was very busy writing down our particulars so we had plenty of time to ourselves. Meantime some children continued to sob while their parents looked in anxiously through the windows. Soon recess came. Some of us headed for the tuck-shop while the rest headed for their parents. I bought a drink with the money my mother gave me. Getting to know my new friends had made me thirsty. After recess we went back to out classroom and my new friends and I managed to coax two boys to stop crying. In fact, soon we were laughing and playing together. Once in a while the teacher had to tell us to keep quiet as we were making too much noise. Still some parents looked in anxiously through the windows. Finally the bell rang for us to go home. Some of us were very relieved to be reunited with our parents. I too was glad to see my mother waiting for me at the school gate. I had made many friends. It had......

My First Day at School

...My First Day at School After a patience of six years to become the known phenomenon as a student, I suddenly felt nervousness scatter my entire body. I was lost in my own thoughts and there were nowhere to escape. The excitement and enthusiasm that had been grown since last year where my parents told me the very unknowing thing school disappeared. I didn’t want that the school should be replaced by the comfortable kindergarten with the safely settings where my friends were. I became afraid of the unconscious, afraid of the strange and I began crying. I wanted that my father immediately turned the car and drove back home, but it was too late. We were only few metres from the school. My parents told me that it would be great and that I would meet new people, and get new friends to know. I would no longer be a little boy, but instead a big boy that went to school with own schoolbag with books in it. I knew that all the things my parents told me were just for to get me more comfortable in the situation. Actually it helped especially the last thing they told me and therefore I saw a ray of hope even though the circumstances. Was it so terrible as I predicted? Maybe it was just me who was too exaggerated. I was dressed in my finest clothes and my hair was weird done with help by some sticky trash, fashionable my mother told me. N. Zahle’s School was the name of the school where I began and spent my next ten years. It was a school of good reputation where my sister......

First Day at School

...My first day a school The poem describes how the little boy feels about his first school day. The boy was very nervous, maybe because he doesn't know anything about school or what school is like. I remember my first day at school, as something really special. I remember that the day before the start, I couldn't fall asleep. My anxiety hat taken over my body. The day started with my mother came into my room and woke me up, but I was already up. I had put on my prettiest clothes and I had already, the day before, made my mother braid my hair so I had curls, when I woke up. My school was 300 meters from where I lived, so I didn't have very long to go. My mother had taken he day off, so she could be there with me. When we came up to the school, where there already lots of children and parents. I clearly remember how I squeezed my mother's hand and I felt safe. The inspector said welcome and there were community singing. It was a tradition that there were community songs every year, and the inspector tell the new pupils welcome. After the songs, it was time to go into the classrooms. I was very excited to meet my new class, but I was a happy little girl, when I saw that there were two girls in my class, whom I went to nursery with. When I had found my class and everybody were together, we had to find some seats. On each table there was a note with each name on it, a juice and an apple. I went around in the classroom long before I found my name, I had to sit next to somebody......

First Week of College Reflection

...person’s first week at college is one of the most significant transition periods in their life. It is ultimately one of the most surprising, frightening, and enjoyable experiences they will have. My first week at NDSU was no exception to this. There were things about my first week that I was completely not expecting, things that didn’t surprise me at all, and things that have been very rewarding. First, multiple things about my first week of college surprised me. One of these things was that the days don’t go by nearly as slowly as I thought they would. In high school, I was at school from 8:30 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. on any given day, and no matter what, the time seemed to go unbearably slow. I thought that I would be experiencing the same feeling of the day dragging on in college. Because I don’t live on campus, and on Tuesdays and Thursdays I have a 5 p.m. class, on those days I am typically on campus from 9:30 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. I didn’t think I would be able to handle long school hours again, especially hours even longer than I was at high school. However, there are so many ways to stay busy at NDSU that the hours practically fly by in a comparison to high school. The seemingly shorter school days are just one of the things that surprise me about NDSU. Second, there were several things about college that met my expectations exactly. For example, going into college I figured that there was going to be a very large amount of homework in comparison to high school. I was......

Describe the First Day of Your School

...Today is the first day of school. The three months of vacation in the country have passed like a dream. This morning, I was returning to school. I was thinking of the country, and went unwillingly. The streets were swarming with pupils. The two bookshops were thronged with persons who were purchasing books, copy-books and school-outfit. In front of the school, so many people had collected, that the beadle and the policeman found it hard to keep the entrance clear. Near the door, I feft myself touched on the shoulder; it was my master of the eleventh grade, cheerful as usual, and he said to me: - "So we are to part forever, Henry!" I knew it well, yet the words pained me. We made our way in with difficulty. Pupils of all ages filled the anteroom and the stairs, making such a buzzing, that it seemed like entering a theatre. I was glad to see once more that large room on the ground floor, where I had passed nearly every day for three years. There was a throng of teachers going and coming. My school-mistress of the last year greeted me from the door of the class room, and said: - "Henry, you are going to the floor above, this year. I shall not even see you pass by any more !". And she gazed regretfully at me. At ten o'clock, we were all in our classes. The school seemed so small and gloomy to me when I thought of the woods and the mountains where I had passed the summer. I thought again, too, of my previous master who was so good, and who always smiled at us.......

First Week at Oe Miss

...Laura Tackitt EDHE 105 (Section113) Journal Entry #1 My First Week at Ole Miss Moving to college is such a whirlwind of emotions. Students are anxious, excited, happy, sad, and so, so very confused. My first week at Ole Miss was no exception to this. There were things about my first week that I was completely not expecting, things that did not surprise me at all, and things that have been very rewarding. First, multiple things about my first week of college surprised me. One of these things was that the days do not go by nearly as slowly as I thought they would, but the nights do. Second, there were several things about college that met my expectations exactly. For example, going into college I figured that there was going to be a very large amount of homework in comparison to high school. I was definitely correct about this. In high school, it was not too difficult to get by with minimal effort and attention paid in class. However, my first week at Ole Miss showed me that college indeed does require much effort and actually doing the readings from the textbook that you are assigned. I do not have a problem with doing my homework, it is just something that I have observed and expected before I started college. There are many things about college that were not at all surprising to me....

First Day of School

...person next to us. Learning at your own pace is key to becoming a productive person in society. This is story about my first day in first grade. It was a blustery Monday morning. I was awakened by my mother giving me a kiss on my forehead. The air in the room smelled stale from sleep which emphasized the smell of coffee on her breathe-it was so fresh I could almost taste it. “Time to wake up for your first day of school.”, she said. My vision started to come into focus as I slowly began to open my eyes. Magically my clothes, which were flung all over the floor the night before, were perfectly folded on the dresser. The shades on my bedroom window were drawn to the very top, aiming the early morning sun straight into my direction, blinding me. I could hear the wind outside, cool and crisp, causing me to burrow further into my blankets-interrupting my own personal cocoon of warmth and safety. “You’re going to be late for your first day of school if you don’t get moving!”. I rubbed the sleep out of my eyes and planted my feet on the soft, vanilla colored carpet. Instantly, I felt the nervousness fluttering through my veins. Today is going to be my first day in First grade. I was in the bathroom combing my bed head, brushing my teeth, and drying off from my morning shower. While getting ready, the aroma coming from the kitchen was mouth watering. With that first whiff, I instantly knew what riches would be presented to me at the breakfast table. I knew that today was going......

First Entry on the School

...Essay - Justin Clark Question one: It is my belief that literacy in today´s time is being able to make sense of as well as engage in advanced reading, writing, listening, and speaking and as educators we are challenged with the task of coming up with proper strategies to meet these needs of our students in all subject areas. There are a few strategies that I have used in the past to incorporate balanced literacy into classroom instruction. The first method I love incorporate is the read -aloud method. I often times read out loud to the classroom as well as in small groups so that I can model the correct strategies and behaviors of students. For example, I model reading behaviors, such as handling a book and reading from top to bottom and left to right as well as making sure I expose students to books with rhyming or predictable patterns for critical thinking and comprehension. From books, articles and even instructions I make sure that I read with enthusiasm, rhythm, and the proper intonation to keep students engaged and learning. A second strategy I have used is the shared reading strategy. This were I read along with the students so that students are able to discover new words and their meanings. While warming up to a book I usually engage my students by asking questions to prompt discussion. For example, if we are reading a book about a circus, I may ask “What do you think our new book is about?” “Who has been to the circus?” Using this particular strategy I am able to......

4 Day Public School Week

...address the controversial topic of schools converting to a four-day school week. The main reason for this transition would be for schools to save money which was discussed in both articles. Many schools found that eliminating Fridays can save money on transportation, heating, food services and substitute teachers. The articles also stated that the number of student, teacher and staff absences also declined. Students’ scores increased which they believe is due to additional class time in the extended hours of a four-day week. This also provides the opportunity for students to catch up on any projects, assignments and participate in any extracurricular activities. Many teachers and staff would still be present on Fridays to complete paperwork, tutor, meet with parents and to help with the extracurricular activities. Small school districts in rural areas such as New Mexico, South Dakota and Colorado follow the four-day school week. This was due to the 1970 energy crisis. After this crisis ended, many of these schools never went back to a full five days of school. Many individuals in these small communities preferred the four-day school week rather than the traditional five-day school week. I understand that by eliminating Fridays from the normal school week costs are cut significantly, but I feel that the majority of staff and students will not use this day off to focus on studies or extracurricular activities in their schools. I believe fewer school days will reduce......

It permits to collect and analysis the data. The research design depends upon what the researcher is looking for, his needs. It can be a detailed or furnish the minimum of the information required.
