The AACTE is the organization of my choice. It’s {an organization that is dedicated to providing leadership in the field of adult and continuing education by expanding opportunities for adult growth and development; unifying adult educators; fostering the development of theory, research, information, and best practices promoting identity and standards for the profession; and advocating relevant public policy and social change initiatives} (AACTE, 2007). The AACTE represents more than 770 schools, colleges, and departments of education and affiliate organizations that produce more than two thirds of the nations new school personnel each year. This type of organization contributes to my success for many reasons. With me being an adult and going to school I am informed of the many changes and developmental issues that plague the learning curve. There are seminars that are held in many locations I could attend if open to the public, their website has many useful informational tools, and all surveys and analysis are documented with figures. There are five areas that are focused on when research is conducted they consist of standards, curriculum, assessment, accountability, and who belongs in the profession (AACTE, 2007). When each has been calculated it is documented for the government to see and possibly act upon. Assessing teacher standards directly correlate to me with me being a student right now and the fact that I have kids and their lives will be directly affected also. My knowledge and understanding of diverse program changes that take place will have me making better decisions as to where I want to continue my education, which areas to stay away from, and where the most improvement is taking place at. The AACTE also provides members with vital communication regarding policy issues and events, publications targeting various areas of interest, and unique…...

...inverter. Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) technique may be used to control output rms voltage of the inverter. As the load is variable, the power consumed by the load (PL) may be smaller than the power generated from the renewable energy source (PR). Therefore a Flexible AC Transmission System (FACTS) Controller may be used to supply the additional power (PR – PL) from the renewable energy source to the grid. On the other hand if the power consumed by the load (PL) is greater than the power generated from the renewable energy source (PR) therefore the same FACTS controller may be used to absorb the additional power (PR – PL) from the grid to the load. In this case the FACTS controller must allow bi-directional power flow. If all the active houses are connected to the grid in the same way (proposed way), the active houses that generate more power than the load can be supplied to the active houses that generate less power than the load. Therefore a suitable FACTS controller should be designed in such a way that it can control the power flow in both directions. The idea is illustrated in the following figure. 1.2 Objectives: • Study on different FACTS controllers • Study on different renewable energy sources • Study on different energy storage devices • Study on different types of inverters • Implementation of all these resources in a smart......

True Facts

...Gaite v. Fonacier Facts: Gaite was appointed by Fonacier as attorney-in-fact to contract any party for the exploration and development of mining claims. Gaite executed a deed of assignment in favor of a single proprietorship owned by him. For some reasons, Fonacier revoked the agency, which was acceded to by Gaite, subject to certain conditions, one of which being the transfer of ores extracted from the mineral claims for P75,000, of which P10,000 has already been paid upon signing of the agreement and the balance to be paid from the first letter of credit for the first local sale of the iron ores. To secure payment, Fonacier delivered a surety agreement with Larap Mines and some of its stockholders, and another one with Far Eastern Insurance. When the second surety agreement expired with no sale being made on the ores, Gaite demanded the P65,000 balance. Defendants contended that the payment was subject to the condition that the ores will be sold. Issue: (1) Whether the sale is conditional or one with a period (2) Whether there were insufficient tons of ores Held: (1) The shipment or local sale of the iron ore is not a condition precedent (or suspensive) to the payment of the balance of P65,000.00, but was only a suspensive period or term. What characterizes a conditional obligation is the fact that its efficacy or obligatory force (as distinguished from its demandability) is subordinated to the happening of a future and uncertain event; so that if the suspensive......

...of action: Facts: Joseph M. Orlando filed a complaint for slander against fellow attorney, Garrick F. Cole. Allegedly, Orlando suffered harm to his reputation as a lawyer when Cole made false comments to newspaper reporters (oral slander) about his role in an investigation involving a 17-year-old student and a high school basketball coach, Thomas A. Atwater. Cole filed a motion to dismiss the complaint which was allowed. At the time, Atwater was unrepresented and approached Orlando to admit that he had in fact sexually assaulted the high school student. He signed an affidavit and confessed to the police, while Orlando spoke to the media and gave them a copy of Atwater’s affidavit. Cole, who was now representing Atwater, told the same reporters that the affidavit was “inaccurate” and Orlando’s actions were “fraudulent” and “deceitful”. Issue or issues of Law: Are the comments made by Cole reasonably susceptible of a defamatory connotation? Are Cole’s statements ones of fact, opinion, or a combination of both? Holding & Reasoning of Court: In this case, the court concluded that the comments made by Cole are susceptible of a defamatory connotation because the terms used include “inaccurate”, “fraudulent”, and “deceitful”- which all imply misconduct. Orlando’s conduct and Cole’s allegations that the affidavit was “inaccurate” are factual due to the idea that they are capable of being proved false. The statements appear to be based on undisclosed defamatory facts, because......

Law on Facts

...Doctrine of frustration is that it is an unforeseen event which occurs and makes the contract impossible to perform as well as the fact that neither party is at fault nor is it a way to escape a contract or obligation so therefore is not a vitiating factor either. There are several ways where contract may be frustrated this is where for instance impossibility of performance occur due to a frustrating event, so when a it is impossible to carry out the contract as it can be destroyed or inaccessible so due to its existence. The case of Taylor V Caldwell clearly illustrates this aspect where performance was impossible as the building was on fire and therefore this denotes that the contract was frustrated as neither party was at fault and performance was impossible to complete as the building which was hired was on fire so it made the contract frustrated. Secondly a contract may be frustrated if there is the illegality of performance so where it would be illegal to perform a certain act or transaction, so therefore this would frustrate the contract and restrain performance and the case of Fibrosa demonstrates this where a delivery of machines were to be acquired from Poland by England in a period of 3-4 months payment were half transacted, however due to Germany invading Poland and England declaring war on Germany orders in council made Poland an enemy territory which made it illegal for England to trade in Poland this shows illegality of performance and how it can be frustrated...

...Tim Chou Spring 2014 Fact Paper LEGO “It’s not a franchise, it’s a highly sophisticated interlocking brick system,” says Will Ferrell to his adolescent son in the recently released mega blockbuster hit The LEGO Movie. Yellow, vibrant, educational, and fun, LEGO’s have been around for generations. Created by Danish carpenter Ole Kirk Kristiansen in 1932, and derived from the Danish words “Leg Godt” which means “play well”, LEGO’s have made a remarkable recovery from almost being bankrupt in the early 2000s, to the very much alive and thriving business it is now. Jorgen Vig Knudstorp, who came to be the LEGO CEO in 2004, helped them become the most profitable and fastest growing company in the toy industry besides Mattel. Their products are developed with the upmost care; as stated in their motto: “Kun det bedste er godt nok” which means 'only the best is good enough', and is marketed at children but bought and collected and loved by adult fans as well. LEGO’s have not only stood and passed the test of time, it is also a “psychological tool and a way to relax”, quoted by leading psychologist Jon Sutton, and proven to help children’s play, creativity, and imagination. In the Lego Movie, Emmet Brickowski (The LEGO Movie’s protagonist) uses creativity and intelligent management to save his city of Bricksburg. Coincidentally, the same went for Knudstorp who saved the LEGO Company from almost certain bankruptcy. In the 1990s, LEGO was facing bankruptcy due to a few major...

After the Fact

...100% accurate, because the more you look deep into knowing the truth, the more you will find yourself getting tangled with new information. This information makes you confused, because you cant seem to know what really took place during that event. I don't think we can really go to far in reliably reconstructing the experiences of the people in history, because we are yet unknown to the real information. However if we were to change we can use the new information, meaning we can research about the event and see if we can use that information to know that something else could have possibly happened. As people say seeing believing so this means you cant really believe everything that is written down in history. In that book “After the fact” there are many historical events that took place which were quite odd to come to the conclusion of. History in the text is explained as “History is what happened in the past. That statement is the everyday view of the matter. It supposes that historians must return to the past through the surviving records and bring it back to the present to display as what really happened.” This quote explains that the information that the historians have today is not enough to address what has really happened in the past. In order to have the clear picture of what really took place, one has to travel back in time, which is quite impossible. It is not that you cant find out what happened in the history, it is that somewhere it would be a myth and......

...How Facts Backfire In How Facts Backfire by Joe Keohane states that, “facts don’t necessarily have the power to change our minds.” He proves the idea of facts backfiring at various points through out his essay through studies and by giving real life examples. “Backfire,” is the key concept in his essay as he states that it means that any individual has his or her own opinions about certain things regardless of being right or wrong. He advances in saying that it is a phenomenon known as “a natural defense mechanism to avoid that cognitive dissonance.” Keohanes explains that in order for a something to “backfire,” an individual whose opinion about a fact is proven wrong he or she gets defensive and believes they’re even more right than they were before. An example he gives of this in his essay is when Keohane describes a situation in which a group of people were asked if they believed there were WMDs in Iraq. Of all those who answered that they believed there was WMDs in Iraq, would not accept that this was in fact a lie and instead believed that there WMDs were in Iraq even more; regardless of the correction. This situation proves the concept of “backfire,” because it demonstrates the idea that the more an individual has to defend their beliefs or opinions, the more they in turn believe it to be true. He implies that people naturally defend themselves and put up that wall is because of their ignorance. Further stating that, “most of us like to believe that our......

Facts on Gmos

...genetically modified foods they have become significantly more available. The approval of GMOs has affected us in ways that we might not even know about. Some foods that we eat may in fact contain some of these genetically modified crops such as cereals and vegetable oils. The Food and Drug Administration has held meetings to discuss the potential threats and benefits of genetically modifying foods. These meetings have brought into the open both positive and negative thoughts on genetically modified foods. Research has shown that there are many advantages that can come from this fairly new invention. As we all know the world’s population is continuously growing and making sure that there is an adequate amount of food is very important. Growing genetically modified foods will meet this need in a number of ways. These GMOs or “super crops” can be modified to be pest resistant. Growing crops that are naturally pest resistance would be a huge help to modern farmers and the environment. With crops being injected with the gene to become pest resistant this will cut down on the use of pesticides that can be health hazards to humans and the environment. Not only do GMOs reduce the use of pesticides but also herbicides that are used to kill weeds that affect the growth of crops. Other than the fact that crops can be modified to be pest resistant, they can also be injected with an anti-freeze or anti-drought gene. Malnutrition is a huge problem in third world countries such as......

Fact and Fiction

...Facts, fiction and coding When we turn on the TV, we immediately decode what sort of program we are watching. If we watch “Paradise Hotel”, we expect a reality show and everything we associate with the genre. We expect drama, fighting, sex, betrayal and so forth. If we turn on the News, we expect to be fed with factual information about the happenings in the world. If we see a film, we also have certain expectations. When we see a romance film, we expect love. When we see an action film, we expect a fast pace and violence. When we see a horror film, we expect to be scared and so forth. We call these genre expectations. Within the world of media/literature, we deal with two major categories, facts and fiction. Facts tell us something about events and situations, which have already happened; facts therefor have an obligation to reality. Facts involve factual information, which can be subsequently checked for accuracy. However, fiction is made up where neither the people nor the events have root in the real world. Fiction therefore has no obligation to be factually correct and we cannot subsequently check for accuracy. When we watch films, TV programs or read texts, a sort of contract of understanding occurs. The contract is defined as agreements where the sender, in accordance with the receiver, agree on whether the film/text is fact or fiction. To make sure the receiver and sender are in accord, we use fact and fiction coding to decipher/ sort out fact from fiction and...
