Cloud Resources Vs In-House Deployment (focusing on windows Azure) Cloud resources have gained substantial popularity in the recent past owing to its autonomy and the hype of providing instant data management solutions no matter where an individual may be, (GFI Software, 2010). Several factors must be considered when deciding on what type of system will be used to handle the various classes of data within an organization. Data security is key feature; the system settled upon must ensure that the data is safe at all times whether at rest on the server, in transit or while being authenticated, (Bills, et al., 2012). The cost implications of the system to be adopted should be favorable and not compromise the data security for the affordability feature. Cloud resources offer a very lucrative deal to organizations because they will not need to invest on new infrastructure (servers), no software licensing fees, and all the hard work is done by a third party agency, (Cisco, 2012). Designing a cloud system to handle organizational data is an elaborate process that requires consideration of several issues because the cloud has more potential risks that local storage. For instance, a third party protects the data stored in the cloud and there is a possibility of intruders breaking into the server and causing harm, (Jansen & Grance, 2011). In that case, the law enforcement agency must be involved every step of the way for emergency response whenever such a problem occurs. Procedures for reporting cases of suspected intrusion must be well documented on the design of a cloud system to be entrusted with handling critical data, (Oracle Corporation, 2012). Clouds can vary dramatically in shape, size, color and position. Early in the nineteenth century French naturalist Jean-Baptitse Lamarck had started the first system to classify clouds which was polished by a naturalist named Luke Howard shortly after. Not until 1887 was Howards system finalized by Ralph Abercromby and Hugo Hildebrandson into the system we use today. This system entails four major cloud groups and ten basic types of clouds based on their appearance and position in the sky. The four groups are high clouds, middle clouds, low clouds, and clouds with vertical development. The first cloud in the high cloud group is the Cirrus cloud. Cirrus clouds are formed by the freezing of water droplets. They can be found normally above twenty thousand feet. These clouds generally appear white or light grey in color. Strong western winds blow these clouds into thin wispy strands known as “mares’ tails”. In my opinion, these clouds look like they are painted into the sky. When cirrus clouds are present expect a nice pleasant day ahead. The cirrocumulus is next in the high cloud group. These clouds generally are seen less than the cirrus cloud. It generalizes the existing literature by introducing combinatorial auctions of heterogeneous VMs, and models dynamic VM provisioning. Social welfare maximization under dynamic resource provisioning is proven NP-hard, and modeled with a linear integer program. An efficient α-approximation algorithm is designed, with α ∼ 2.72 in typical scenarios. We then employ this algorithm as a building block for designing a randomized combinatorial auction that is computationally efficient, truthful in expectation, and guarantees the same social welfare approximation factor α. A key technique in the design is to utilize a pair of tailored primal and dual LPs for exploiting the underlying packing structure of the social welfare maximization problem, to decompose its fractional solution into a convex combination of integral solutions.
