Cjs Final Project

...Final Project: Fiction versus Reality CJS/220 May 7, 2011 Timothy Hanson There are many aspects of a working courtroom, and each aspect has a special value that it adds to justice proceedings. However, the courtroom proceedings seen in movies, or on television, are rarely the same as what. The reality of what happens in a courtroom has been completely sensationalized to make it more exciting. The complexity of what takes place in real life courtrooms has remained consistent throughout the years. Looking at the novelty of fictional drama and comparing that to what takes place in a traditional courtroom will show the differences, if any. Take into consideration the movie, “My Cousin Vinny.” This movie is mostly held in a courtroom. Included are the judge, the prosecution and defense attorneys, the jury, the bailiff, court recorder, witnesses, even an audience included in the scenes and processes of the case. While in a completely fictional movie, the roles and actions of each individual seem to be indicative of reality. Keeping in mind that there has been a major amount of comedic properties added to the characters of the movie to make it more entertaining, the true roles of the characters stayed very true to reality. The defense and prosecuting attorneys exchange information during discovery, and interviewing witnesses. Also involved, are the examinations and cross examinations done by the attorneys are very comparable to reality. Then there is the......

Cjs/220 Week 2 Assignment

...Week 2 Assignment: Law as a “Living Body” CJS/220 The U.S. Constitution provided the structure and framework for the American rule of law that was based from the structure of England. The U.S. Constitution, which was written and accepted in 1787, has influenced the American legal system giving the American people a structure to live by, law and order. Although all American laws are constitutional, when the Constitution was written in 1787 the American culture was very new and it only catered to the majority and nobody else that was brought to the United States. As time passed the comprehension of the Constitution was changed to integrate minorities like African Americans, women, Asian Americans and others to have the same rights as White Americans. The world has changed dramatically and the U.S. has made history since the creation of the U.S. Constitution having added to it in order for the land of the free actually be the land of the free. The term “laws on the books” refers to the actual written laws passed through legislation being by state or federal and recorded in the codified law books. “Law in action” refers to how the law is actually interpreted, carried out, and applied in the courts. As far as it being fair in the justice system, well it has its pros and cons. It’s not fair when a person is singled out by police because he looks different or out of place. It’s not fair when a person gets a ticket when going to speed of traffic. It is fair that we do...

Cjs/220 Final

...Assignment: Final Project: Appeals Process Paper Tony Thomas CJS/220 Jerri Mauldin August 21, 2011 An appeal is when a person who is convicted of a crime or is told they can’t do a certain thing and the person submits questions in writing why this decision was made and wants the verdict and the case to be looked at another time. Most causes for an appeal is from people thinking they are innocent or have the right to do what they want where they want to do it. The way an appeals process can affect the overall criminal procedures or process is if the appeal gets looked at and the ruling from the previous judgment gets overturned. The reason the system is affected is it can set an innocent man free or let whoever continue on doing what they want to do. If someone is put in jail or prison for a crime they didn’t commit and they send up an appeal and it gets the ruling reversed it can mean that the case would be reopened because the person who actually committed the crime is still on the loose. It also interrupts the process of the system because everything that has been put in writing saying that this person was guilty has now got to be withdrawn from record. It also means that the person who is behind bars goes free. A good way to improve the appeals process is not letting them sit so long before being looked at. This is a big problem in some states and needs to be corrected. Even though forensic science has brought a lot of people to the surface that we......

Xeco/212, Week 9, Final Project

...A New House – Decision University Of Phoenix XECO/212, Week 9, Final Project April 21, 2012 Catherine Higgins The decision to purchase a home is often the most important financial decision and individual or family will be faced with. The largest single financial purchase in an individual's lifetime is often the purchase of a house and one of the largest factors of personal wealth. All ten of the principles of economics are directly related to the decision to purchase a house on some level. These economic principles will have an impact on the purchasing decision and the long term financial aspects of home ownership so it is wise to incorporate these ten principles into the decision making process to ensure a sound financial decision is the outcome. When considering the purchase of a house, the ten principles of economics that need to be addressed can be broken down into three stages of the decision making process. The first step is to examine how the decision is made by incorporating the first four principles of economics which include, the trade off that comes with every financial decision, the real cost of any item or service is what is given up to get the item or service, rational people think at the margin, and people respond to incentives. Once it is clear how the decision is made, the next three principles of economics address how people interact with economics and include factors such as, trade is beneficial to everyone, markets......
