Azucar! Celia Cruz was one of the most famous Cuban salsa singers. She was nicknamed the Queen of Salsa, with more than thirty-six albums that where recorded with other singers in the Latin music industry. Celia worked as a singer for more than forty years, during that time she became well known for her work, great personality, and her emotional way of singing. During her performances something that made her stand out was her ability to improvise lyrics most known as a Sonera. Her success made her an inspiration for more than six decades to the Latin community as well as the rest of the world.

Celia was one of 14 children born on October 21, 1925, in the Santo Suarez a neighborhood in Havana, Cuba (A&E). Her singing talent started when she was young but instead of pursuing a career in singing, she studied to be a teacher (Marceles). Her father told her that he did not believe that singing was a profession for a woman, not putting any thought into what her father said she still went after what she taught right, a career in singing after the strong encouragement coming from her mother, teacher and aunt. Celia began singing in talent shows and doing recordings for radio stations, but neither were sold for money she did it recreationally. Her first recordings were made in 1978 in Venezuela with the Turpial label (A&E). She sang these with the Leonard Melody and Alfonso Larrain orchestras (Marceles).

Later In 1950, she was called in to be the lead singer of a Cuban band, La Sonara Matancera. At first, the public did not like her because she was black, and as we know a few years back blacks where very discriminated in the music industry or any kind of industry. Eventually after all her hard work, and the fact that the orchestra stood by her, the public accepted her and she became famous…...

Cert Program in Santa Cruz County

...CERT Program in Santa Cruz County What is CERT, it stands for the Community Emergency Response Team “Following a major disaster, first responders who provide fire and medical services will not be able to meet the demand for these services. Factors as number of victims, communication failures, and road blockages will prevent people from accessing emergency services they have come to expect at a moment's notice through 911. People will have to rely on each other for help in order to meet their immediate lifesaving and life sustaining needs.” (citizenscorps.gov/cert/about.shtm, no d) How did CERT come about and why “The Community Emergency Response Team concept was developed and implemented by the Los Angeles City Fire Department (LAFD) in 1985. The Whittier Narrows earthquake in 1987 underscored the area-wide threat of a major disaster in California. Further, it confirmed the need for training civilians to meet their immediate needs. As a result, the LAFD created the Disaster Preparedness Division with the purpose of training citizens and private and government employees.” (citizenscorps.gov/cert/about.shtm, no d) CERT’s social initiative is to provide a service to the community during emergencies when all public safety resources are being utilized by true emergencies. When 9/11 happened, our public governments realized that relying soley upon our public safety organizations such as our fire departments and police departments weren’t enough. The CERT program offered the......

She was a strong, brave woman who made sacrifices for what she loved. She could never be copied or imitated that would be impossible. She was a proud dark skin Cuban woman, very talented and inspiring singer. Celia was an inspiration for anyone who wanted to be famous; even well know famous people looked up to her. Celia Cruz

Carlos Cruz is an inventor who is trying to create a new product that uses technology to make printed words such as books, materials and convert text into a digital product that people can hear (University Of Phoenix, 2011). This has options or alternatives to their rates in line with the cost of doing business. The total price of the final product will increase revenues and decrease Carlos by product. Carlos is facing some critical decisions about his invention. He believes he has a viable business, but is not sure how to achieve the maximum total revenue. Carlos has found that some economic principles are present and should not be ignored when launching its product to consumers. Following are some of them. One principle that is present is the concept of supply and demand. The demand is defined as the quantity of a product that consumers are willing and able to buy based on price over a period of time (McConnell and Brue 2008). The demand shows a relationship if all other things being equal, the higher the price of a good, less people will demand good.......

Santa Cruz Bicycles

...Santa Cruz Bicycles 1.) What, in your opinion, was the key factor in Santa Cruz Bicycles’ successful process redesign? “The 25-person company adopted a similar system used by large, global manufacturers: product life cycle management (PLM) software. The research and development team had been using computer-aided-design (CAD) software”(Pearson & Saunders, 2013, p. 165). The old software took a lot longer (7 months) for the company to develop a design. If the prototype didn’t work, it took another 7 months to develop a new design and so on and so on. If the design didn’t work it was financially draining on the company. Accessing and using the new software PLM was the key to their success. 1.a.) Why was that factor the key? The new IT provided the company with the capabilities of; simulation of rough terrains; tracking of all variables and running a simulation in minutes instead of 7 hours. Thus, the new software allowed the company to develop designs quickly and the simulation allowed the team to watch all concerns (variables) of the stimulation. The software allows faster redesign of any and all elements that may be needed it instead of fixing one at a time. 2.) What outside factors had to come together for Santa Cruz Bicycles to be able to make the changes they did? “The company designed and patented the Virtual Pivot Point (VPP) suspension system, a means to absorb the shocks that mountain bikers encounter when on the rough terrain of the off-road ride” (Pearson &......

Celia Behindme

...Celia Behind Me In an ordinary neighborhood of Canada the story of two girls takes place Elizabeth and Celia. The story is written from Elizabeth’s point of view, the protagonist in the short story. Elizabeth is one among the group of girls that are bullying Celia, because she is different from the rest. Celia suffers from diabetes and are chubby which makes her an easy victim for the rest of the group. Even though she is being mocked and humiliated she keeps following the group, and especially Elizabeth. Elizabeth is kind of chunky and wears glasses, and she has been sucking thumb openly in kindergarten. Elizabeth is a very uncertain girl with a low self-esteem, and the fear of being the next in line has driven her to bully Celia. When Elizabeth was in kindergarten she got the nickname “Sucky” and the name had stuck with her until third grade. She knows how it feels to be the victim and being teased day in and day out, therefore she is trying to live up to the groups wishes. The problem that Elizabeth stumbles upon along the story is that her mother tells her to stop bullying Celia. The consequence if she chooses to ignore her will be spanking in public. The instructions from her family has now placed her in a bad position with the group, because now she has to protect Celia, in order to avoid public humiliation. Elizabeth is disgusted every time she lays eyes on Celia, and her hatred to her is building up for each day. What may be the cause for this hatred towards her,...

Celia Behind Me

...her is in fear of being the bullied. “I knew deep in my wretched heart, that were it not for Celia I was next in line for humiliation.” This is where the tendency is shown, Elizabeth is scared that she might become the bullied one if she doesn’t bully Celia. The way Elizabeth deals with the guilt of bullying Celia is by telling her that she is not the worst bully. “I’m nicer to her than anybody else” Celia is the one student everyone is bullying. She is at the lowest part of the hierarchy, but as the story goes on she moves higher up the hierarchy but not among the classmates. Celia moves up the hierarchy because she has a heart of gold. She forgives Elizabeth for bullying her, even if it’s only to get a friend, it still shown how kind hearted little Celia is. There are different reasons why she is being bullied, one is that she suffers from diabetes which makes her an “easy target”. Everybody wants to be at the top of the hierarchy and Elizabeth is no different than the other children. Even after Elizabeth is being punched by her mother she still thinks more about the hierarchy and continues to bully Celia. This is basically what can be said about the relationship Celia and Elizabeth have towards each other. They are trying to use each other to get a better position in the hierarchy, which at the beginning works well for Elizabeth. But the bullying back fires at the end when Celia dies and Elizabeth becomes the new one to be bullied. In today’s society many young......

...What style of music do I most identify with…I would have to say that it is Salsa. Being Hispanic and growing up in a Hispanic household, that is all that was heard on the weekend and at family gatherings. I think back to my childhood, and I can see my mother, as clear as day, cleaning while listening to Willie Chirino and dancing a bit whenever she thought we were not looking. As a teenager when I heard Salsa, the first thing that popped in my head was “this is old people music…Can someone please put on some Power 96 or something”, now I find myself actively searching radio stations looking for those same songs I heard as a child. There is nothing like some good old Celia Cruz or Frankie Ruiz to get your fingers tapping and instantly put you in a good mood. I really I can’t pinpoint when I first heard this style of music, as it has been around me all my life. If I have to give you a reason as to why I feel this style of music identifies me, well I guess it would be because it reminds me of all the good times I shared with my family and loved ones. This style of music makes me feel nostalgic, happy and proud to be a Hispanic. It’s evident to anyone around me, including the cars next to me while I am stuck in traffic, when I hear that music on the radio, my hands come to life and I feel like I have no control…it’s like they think they are part of the band. To summarize my style of music is without a doubt Salsa. If I had to pick a favorite Salsa signer, needless to say, I......

Trump or Cruz as President?

...Trump or Cruz as President? There are currently fourteen GOP candidates running for the 2016 Presidential election. Senator Ted Cruz of Texas became the first to officially announce his candidacy on March 23. Mr. Cruz seeks the Republican primary nomination by emphasizing himself as the most conservative candidate, he is also the candidate with the most hard-line stances against President Obama. Real estate mogul and television reality star Donald Trump, the twelfth GOP candidate announced his run on June 16, with the slogan, America doesn’t win anymore. When it comes to the issues, taxes have always been in the top five in every election, but recently immigration has been a leading issue. In fact during his announcement, Donald trump was very outspoken about Mexican illegal immigrants and during the first GOP debate, he added that he is openly confronting the severity of the immigration problem that “others won’t publicly acknowledge.” On the immigration issue, Senator Ted Cruz has taken active measures reform the legal immigration system and uphold the rule of law. As for taxes, Cruz believes that major tax reform, is the most important fiscal issue facing the U.S. He believes that the most important tax reform would be to get rid of the IRS. Donald trump has a more liberal tax that slashes taxes for the poor and levies higher taxes on the rich. By April 15, Americans will pay about 2.1 trillion dollars in combined federal taxes. The average American pays an income tax......
