The Exotic Adventure Inc Case

Case Synopsis The Exotic Adventure Inc, main objective was to offer the Amazon River

Voyage an exciting journey consequently during a low water season.

Nevertheless, the company had to make a complicating decision’s continuing on

with the voyage during the low water season or canceling the voyage

completely. In addition to those two option’s EAI had to make the proper decision

hoping it will not affect their clientele with the company.

State the Assignment Question In order to understand the concept of the Exotic Adventure Inc, in this case there are several question’s that should be addressed and analyzed. It’s possible to say that the information would continue to be ambiguous regarding the water level for the voyage. On the hand, the EAI would processed as planned and jeopardize not only the customers safety but losing a substantial about of funds for the company. Based on the case the main observation is that the company has five days to consult with those customers and cancel the trip or continue the voyage as planned despite the navigational information provided. Case Analysis Exotic Adventure Inc, (EAI) operated expedition style voyages primarily to the Polar Regions. These voyages were concentrated in the Arctic in the summer and Antarctica in the austral summer. As well, EAI operated voyages between seasons to the island of the South Pacific and the Atlantic and in the Amazon River basin to help defray its fixed business.(The Richard Ivey School of Business, 1999). The Exotic Adventure Inc, was a company that organized and planned voyages during the 1997 and 1998. These particular style voyages marketed clients that enjoyed extraordinary adventures in the certain parts of the world. The level of comfort was categorized as three-star with emphasis on adventure and education as opposed to the casinos and shows of traditional cruising.(The Richard Ivey School of Business, 1999). Unfortunately, low water conditions affect how this voyage was going to succeed and taking a gamble on the monetary issues that will affect the company, the island’s that were accepting the business and finally the customers.
Option 1 Based on the case study the option 1 was determined on the cancellation date before October 8 , which included all ninety-nine travels the refund policy. This option would entail reimbursement to all passengers for payment made as well as on estimated US$30,000 in cancellation penalties for domestic air tickets that passengers had purchased to connect to the international gateway.(The Richard Ivey School of Business, 1999). By choosing Option 1, there would be a substantial amount on recoverable expenses that already paid with package of the voyage. After refunds, some saving could be realized, including fuel expenses, a food order placed for both voyages, pilotage, port fees and international airports. (The Richard Ivey School of Business, 1999). By this time all information have been submitted and reviewed the total additional cost is $184,000.( Exhibit 2) Making the difficult business decision EAI domestic travels will not in experience the voyage if the option 1 is considered?

Option 2 This option which was estimated to have a 20 per cent probability would necessitate chartering an aircraft in order for passengers to connect with the scheduled air arrangement to North America to Iquitos. (The Richard Ivey School, 1999) With this option EAI had to determine if the amazing voyage will proceed as planned well water level is decreasing. By early August 1998, 52 passengers had booked a passage on the upriver voyage and 47 on the downstream voyage both to occur In October in that year.(The Richard Ivey School, 1999). It is determined in that in that geographical area the water level had decreased and that if the voyage would continue the money had to be refunded and certain business will not benefit form the EAI voyage. The short cut thru Manaus will affect how business will be in certain island. Nevertheless, the saving for this option 2 is almost similar to option 1 based on refund for certain areas. However the total additional costs equaled to $282,000.(Exhibit 2)

Option 3 Finally, option 3 additional costs equaled $290,000.(Exhibit 2) This is determined if the voyage is not able to processed to Iqutios then EAI would have to make decisions on returning back to Manaus. If successful, there be no additional cost to the company. (The Richard Ivey Richard Ivey School,1999)School of Business, 1999) The misconception to the finally option is the refund to the passengers will lower than option 1 and 2. On the other hand, there will be no port or piltoage savings, and fuel savings would be smaller. (Richard Ivey School of Business, 1999). By choosing this option EAI has to consider the company will be able to financially deal the profits lost if they don’t have proper business plan.

What Happened A company that initiates a customer loyalty program usually wants to retain existing customers, maintain sales levels and profits, increase the potential value of existing customers, and encourage customers to buy its other products as well. (Dowling, Uncles, 1997). Based on the observation on Exotic Adventure Inc.: The Amazon River Voyage was affected by all three options nevertheless, there were always opportunities’ that the company can increase profits and provide excellent customer service for those domestic travelers. My decision on the case is that the company should take the chance and turn back before their reach the island of Iquitos. If the water level is to low as indicated in the case the voyage will still save profit by a substantial amount money. By canceling the trip before October 8 in addition the Manaus Island, customers will not have experienced as much on the domestic experience. For many companies that provided a luxury voyage such as the EAI, money should be should allocated in the budget for any foreseen situations that may occur during their journey. By providing customer’s with an incentive for any inconvenience this will keep the clientele percentage high and addition to in revenue for the company. References
