WE GET STUCK IN THE BATTLES OF LIFE AND NEVER FIND VICTORY

B. BUT THAT CAN CHANGE! TWO (2) QUESTIONS…

QUESTION #1: WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO CHANGE ABOUT YOURSELF?

A. YOU ASK YOURSELF,

“WHY CAN’T I CHANGE WHAT I WANT TO CHANGE? BUT I DON’T SEEM TO HAVE THE POWER?”

WHERE DO WE GET THE POWER TO CHANGE?

TO GET OUT OF NEUTRAL?

HOW DO I BREAK THE MOLD I’M IN?

(THAT’S WHAT A LIFE IN CHRIST OFFERS US)

Now may the God of peace [Who is the Author and Giver of Peace]… strengthen you…make you what you ought to be and equip you with every good thing that you may carry out His will [while He Himself] works in you and accomplishes that which is pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ to Whom be the glory forever and ever. Introduction Many times we are faced with the challenge of choosing between buying a home and renting one. There are various advantages and disadvantages related to each of these options that an individual has. It is the dream of each individual to own a home in a good environment which is secure and peaceful. There are two options that one can choose from when considering a home. One can either rent or buy. It is important to carry out a thorough investigation on each of the options and make an informed decision. The decision of buying or renting any asset is crucial and should be critically analyzed. Therefore, it is important for one to take into account the benefits and costs involved in each option before deciding on the one to take. One might choose to use a buy vs rent comparison tool such as the mortgage calculator that can be provided by a lender or real estate broker. The Rent versus Buy Comparator allows the user to compare their estimated financial position after 7 years of renting with their estimated financial position after 7 years of home loan repayments (Realtor.com, n.d.). This tool will allow the buyer or renter to compare the possible financial cost and assists in making the decision whether to buy or rent. Moreover, most finance calculators will take into consideration the rent, rent insurance,......

Becoming a Writer

...BECOMING A WRITER January of 2011 was the beginning of a special adventure in my life as a student. I took an English class 0890, at Utah Valley University. Now, in the last days of this class, almost four months later, I can look back and see myself with a lot of problems in my writing that needed to be fixed. These four months in this class have helped me solve many writing challenges. I am far from perfect in becoming a good writer but I have learned that hard work and perseverance can produce wonderful results. Even though I learned many things, the three man points that I want to talk about are the following: quote analysis scaffold, grammar, and research online. The first month of the English 0890 class was intense, the students had to do a special analysis writing exercise called “Quote analysis scaffold”. It is the developing of many skills in one exercise. It helps develop reading and vocabulary comprehension. After the quote analysis scaffold is made, it can be used in the essay as a hook or concluding thought. We ended up doing around ten of these exercises. After writing the quote, provided from the teacher, this analysis was made from the following steps: The first thing was to do a research online about the author and make two to three sentences, on average, about who he was and what were his major contributions to society. Second, the students had to look for unknown words and their definition in the dictionary. After this, the third part was for the......

Becoming American

...Dinesh D’Souza “Becoming American” In “Becoming American”, Dinesh D’Souza explains the reasons why America is so attractive to the immigrants. He defends the idea that people immigrates to America because of the social status and wealth. D’Souza thinks that the search for better life is not only based on wealth and status but also on the dreams that each man can create his or her own destiny without any parental or cultural controls. The immigration is the result of the extremely difficult lifestyles in the Third World which includes overcrowded transportation, pollution, unsafe drinking water, poor education for the children, and the corrupt government. D’Souza says that media presents America as a land in which every citizen has a large home and even normal laborers can purchase expensive items. He also mentions that unlike the Third World countries, Americans do not have to fear starvation. He identifies the freedom of choice that America provides in several different areas like marriage, occupations and opinions. D’Souza explains that by coming to America he had the opportunity to experience new ideas, and ways of thinking. He illustrates this by giving example of his own life and early employment history. He has worked at the Washington Post and as a senior policy analyst for President Reagan. In America one can even become a comedian, which his father wouldn’t have ever approved of. He says in traditional cultures, birth determines a large part of someone’s life,......

...Becoming a Physical Therapist Oakland University Jonathan Jarvie Becoming a Physical Therapist Ever since I could remember, I always wanted to be a professional football player. Growing up from middle school to high school, I trained everyday to finally get there someday. Everything was going good, became captain on my high school’s varsity football team, began to win awards for being one of the top players in the Macomb area and later in the entire east side of Michigan. I was blessed with a scholarship to Wayne State University to play football after my senior year. Short into my freshmen year, I suffered a serious back injury involving two herniated discs and a fractured vertebra. I was told by some it’s impossible to play with and was told by some that I could come back and continue playing after rehabilitation. Months and months passed with rehab everyday and it still wasn’t getting better. I had to make one of the biggest decisions in my life which was to give up the sport I love for my future health. This is how I became interested in Physical Therapy. Throughout my high school career I had minor injuries such as a fractured ankle, tendonitis in my shoulders, broken fingers etc. For these injuries I went to the same physical therapist named Ryan. He also played football and baseball so he was very educated when it came to sports injuries. Being in physical therapy multiple times in my day, my knowledge grew from being there all the time about different......

Better Teachers, Better Schools

...Better Teachers, Better Schools Imagine this. You are a high school student in class, listening to the teacher discuss the area of a triangle in your geometry course. You cannot help but look around and see, like you, no one else wants to be there. You realize that the teacher has no real connection with students and truly does not know how to communicate the subject material. You cannot help but wonder, why are they teaching? Shouldn’t someone that more qualified to teach be in their place? From kindergarten to high school, choosing qualified teachers has been a daunting task. Schools nationwide choose teachers based on their experience in teaching and an interview process that they are required to complete. Although this seems like a sufficient way to choose great teachers, it is not enough. Too many people are becoming teachers when they clearly do not have the proper skills to lead a group of students. Just because a person has a high IQ, had a good GPA, has previous experience in the education field, or has en education major, does it mean that they have what it takes to be a teacher. A teacher needs to have good interactions with students, be an authoritative figure, be able to teach material, and much more. Just conducting an interview and a resume will not reveal if a candidate has these qualifications. This is why the hiring process for teachers should be much stricter, including an exam and a mock classroom evaluation, in addition to what is already in place....

Becoming a Veterinarian

...Devyn R. Fowler Oct. 01, 2014 ENG 101 Becoming a Veterinarian Animals have been a major part of my life for as long as I could remember. Even as a baby, I was surrounded by all types of animals; dogs, cats, lizards, birds. Etc. The passion I have for animals inspired me to me to want to become a veterinarian. A veterinarian “is a person who is trained to give medical care and treatment to animals: an animal doctor” (Merriam-Webster). I can find no better career path for me then helping animals that are injured/in need of medical attention. If you weren’t aware, there are five main veterinarian jobs; livestock, companion, exotic, mixed, and lab animals. My interest lies only between two of the five jobs: livestock and companion. Knowing the differences and similarities between the two will help me better understand these jobs and also help me make a final decision on which specific career path to study. Livestock veterinarians specialize in exactly that, livestock animals (cows, horses, etc.). “Livestock veterinarians examine, diagnose, and treat individual livestock animals/herds” (DegreeDictionary.org). Another aspect would be treating animals that will be used for food. With that being said, a livestock veterinarian must “enforce food safety standards, check for transmittable diseases and quarantine animals as necessary” (DegreeDictionary.org). “Other duties include giving vaccinations and handing out......

“If You Aren’t Making Someone Else’s Life Better, Then You Are Wasting Your Time.”

...Essay #1:Tech Ventures “If you aren’t making someone else’s life better, then you are wasting your time.” (Will Smith) Although this quote by Will Smith is only a few years old, its basic message can be traced back to the Greek and Roman philosophers. Even then these famous philosophers taught their scholars that helping other people accomplish their goals or generally helping or saving other people from their reality is the real essence of life. In my opinion this statement is true because helping other people in need makes you not only their savior but also helps you feel good about yourself. Trying to improve our world is something that is a vital part of our lives due to the fact that no one wants to leave this place without others remembering what you accomplished in life. At some point in life everyone comes across the question: “What did I do with my life? Was my life worth living? Will I be remembered or forgotten?” In this short essay I want to evaluate the relevance of this quote in our everyday life and afterwards focus on its influence on entrepreneurship before coming to my conclusion. The everyday decisions we make may seem small for that particular moment but they add up to the big picture called life. That is why every decision you take should be one that has a bigger meaning to you. Nobody will remember you for how many episodes of “House of Cards” you have watched the last few weeks or how many hours you spent partying or sleeping. People will always be...

Becoming Better

...week, so a total of forty days of training. The main core lifts such as bench press and leg press were performed at an 80% max out for one repetition before and after the supplementation. There were significant increases in one rep maxes for bench press and leg press in all groups of supplementation throughout the ten week span. In this study, casein and whey protein was used in two different samples and then was combined for the last examination. The combined casein and whey protein had the greatest effect and showed the greatest results. It showed tremendous increases in fat-free mass after the ten weeks of heavy resistance training. This type of examination gives athletes and trainers a good example on what supplements can do for you when taken properly. If athletes are patient enough and can afford the supplements, they will be able to make significant gains in the weight room and in their all-around performance on the field, in the gym or wherever they prefer. Critique One positive thing I liked about the article was that they used three different groups of supplements and stated what they were instead of just using one example. On another hand, they don’t give the cost of the supplements or how much a person should be taking in on a daily basis....

9 Little Contributions You Can Make to Make Our Country Better

...with you. Here are 9 simple things you can do to help bring a change in our country. A change for betterment. 1. Stop littering around. Yes, we should learn from the Swach Bharat campaign! There was a reason we needed it in the first place. The fact that even the new PM of the country addressed the issue on such a gigantic level proves that we, as a country, are in dire need of cleanliness! Things as simple as throwing garbage in the bin and not spitting on the streets can make a huge difference. 2. Be environment-friendly. If you've been following the news, you'd know that it's been said that Delhi currently has the filthiest air, almost the same level as Beijing. In such conditions, being environment-friendly can have a huge impact on making our country a better place with better air. Plant a tree, use eco-friendly materials in your daily life, use public transport or carpool, get your vehicles checked for pollution control. There's so much you can do for this cause with such little effort. 3. Help support a child's education. If you’re at a comfortable financial position in your life and career, you could take out a nominal amount to help a poor kid’s education. It would help the country’s future in a big way if every well-earning person would contribute. The overall literacy could definitely improve in our country. 4. Stop participating in corruption. Don’t accept bribes and don’t give bribes. It’s really as simple as that. It starts with you and ends with you.......

The Less You Know, the Better.

...school, I meet up with my best friend Miranda. I’ve known her since I was four and ever since then, we’ve been inseparable. She’s the only person that knows about my parents addiction. “Hey Bay.” Miranda says “Hey, what are you doing?” I said very confused. “I got asked to do a mural on this wall for the school, putting symbols on here that represent us as students and as a community.” So far, she has painted a bright green graduate’s cap, a big firetruck red heart with people all holding hands uniting around it, and our school’s name in big turquoise bubble letters arching the wall like a rainbow. “Miranda? I need your help with something.” I say very hesitantly. “What’s wrong?” “My parents are behind on the bills again, and we’re about to get evicted. Do you have any ideas as to how I can get money? I don’t know what to do.” “Well, you know Jonny? The quarterback that every girl in this school is obsessed with? He sells all types of drugs and makes a lot of money. Maybe he can help you out.” “SELLING DRUGS?” I said so surprised. I couldn’t even believe she suggested that. “Yeah, I mean as long as you don’t get caught nothing bad is gonna happen right? Just don’t rip anyone off or they might kill you.” Miranda said so seriously. “KILL ME? YOU MEAN I CAN DIE FROM DOING THIS?” I was not about to actually consider this. Miranda laughed and started to walk away then she turned around and said “Just think about it and text me later tonight and let me know your......

On Becoming a Writer

...On Becoming a Writer Introduction How in writing I have found that many people feel the same way when it comes to writing essays for school. On the essay “On becoming a writer” by Baker (McGraw-Hill, n.d,) I discovered that even people that like writing find it difficult to write when the write environment is not in place. Mr. Baker from Virginia goes into describing how dull and boring it was to write in high school English class; trying to follow the classic writing rules to pass a class. His teacher sounds like the guy off of the dry eyes commercial with the slow, boring, make you go to sleep voice. Mr. Fleagle always ended his sermons with “Don’t you see?” (McGraw-Hill, n.d, p. 66). Points The most important point made is do what you love even if it seems to be a daunting task at times. Mr. Baker discovered after his school teacher read out loud his paper on “The art of eating spaghetti” (McGraw-Hill, n.d, p. 66) that he really enjoyed writing and that he liked how others felt about his writing. Mr. Baker liked watching people smile and laugh with the paper he wrote and it inspired him to write more. “I did my best to avoid showing pleasure, but what I was feeling was pure ecstasy at this startling demonstration that my words had the power to make people laugh” (McGraw-Hill, n.d, p. 68). Another important point that I got from Mr. Baker is to go with your first instinct when it comes to writing; your writing may catch the interest or spark the interest in others......

Becoming the Boss

... Becoming the B The earliest test of leadership comes with that first assignment to manage others. Most new managers initially fail this test because of a set of common misconceptions about what it means to be in charge. by Linda A. Hill E Paul Blow the process of becoming a leader is an arduous, albeit rewarding, journey of continuous learning and self-development. The initial test along the path is so fundamental that we often overlook it: becoming a boss for the first time. That’s a shame, because the trials involved in this rite of passage have serious consequences for both the individual and the organization. Executives are shaped irrevocably by their first management positions. Decades later, they recall those first months as transformational experiences that forged their leadership philosophies and styles in ways that may continue to haunt and hobble them throughout their careers. Organizations suffer considerable human and financial costs when a person who has been promoted because of strong individual performance and qualifications fails to adjust successfully to management responsibilities. VEN FOR THE MOST GIFTED INDIVIDUALS, O S S hbr.org | January 2007 | Harvard Business Review 49 THE TESTS OF A LEADER | Becoming the Boss The failures aren’t surprising, given the difficulty of the transition. Ask any new manager about the early days of being a boss – indeed, ask any senior executive to recall how he or she felt as a new......

Becoming an American

...Becoming American: The Chinese Experience SOCY 100 February 18, 2012 Introduction The Chinese Experience records the history of the Chinese in the United States. The three-part documentary shows how the first arrivals from China, their descendants, and recent immigrants have “become American.” It is a story about identity and belonging that is relative to all Americans. The documentary is divided into three programs, each with a focus on a particular time in history. Program 1 describes the first arrivals from China, beginning in the early 1800’s and ending in 1882, the year Congress passed the first Chinese exclusion act. Program 2, which details the years of exclusion and the way they shaped and distorted Chinese American life, opens in 1882 and ends soon after Congress repealed the exclusion acts in 1943. Program 3 examines life during the Cold War, in the wake of immigration reform in 1965, through the years of the Civil Rights Movement, and to the present day with new opportunities and new challenges for Chinese Americans. These three themes discussing the history will be the focus of this paper documenting the journey of the Chinese American dream. Becoming American: The Chinese Experience Program 1 begins in the mid-1800s a time of civil war and famine in southern China. Young Chinese men left their villages to search for better opportunities in other parts of the world. When the news of a gold rush in California reached China in 1849, thousands......
