Assignment 2 Case Study
Imagine that you are a hospital administrator at the Sunlight Hospital in California. The main complaint among patients is the quality of care. Your job is to understand the state of the hospital, create value, increase efficiency, and turn the facility into a local hospital of choice. Whenever you are making visits in the various wards to meet the employees and the patients, you hear how the patients love the hospital, but they would like to see certain improvements in care. The employees seem to be very busy executing their duties and not interacting much with the patients. The hospital board has asked you to compile a report of your findings and suggested strategy for achieving the hospital’s current goals.
Five Measurements of Quality Care in a Hospital
Patients are the most important aspect of healthcare organizations. Without clients needing their services, healthcare facilities cannot function. Therefore, there are certain measurements of quality care that customers seek when choosing a healthcare facility during times of emergency and even an inpatient care facility. Quality of care can be broken down into three main categories, structural, process, and outcome measure (Bajnok, Puddester, MacDonald, Archibald, and Kuhl, 2012). The structural measures of quality are actions taken either by the organization itself, or by an individual that have significant influence on the overall quality of the organization’s performance (Bajnok, Puddester, MacDonald, Archibald, and Kuhl, 2012). Process measures of quality consists of the means of carrying out the work of the organization, while outcome measures of quality are measured by the results of the actions being performed (Bajnok, Puddester, MacDonald, Archibald, and Kuhl, 2012).

Human Resources department it is one of the most important departments when it comes to quality of personnel and their placement inside the company (Maxwell, 2001). In any organization, people are the most challenging resource to manage; therefore Human Resources representatives should be very vigilant when hiring new people. One of the few important things an HR representative needs to ensure is, that each new employee would fit into the company culture, understand each individual way of learning and craft a program for each individual employee or perhaps for groups of employees that match each other learning style and personality. The new Human Resource managers need to move from the traditional way and to the new way. This case study provides few brilliant examples of how and why this should occur and offers understanding of what features are essential for the people that are working in this field. For full credit, provide AT MINIMUM: four to six assumptions held by Kelly; six to nine assumptions held by Pat; two to three assumptions held by Cliff; two to three assumptions held by Chris. a. Kelly- the Senior Engineer is perhaps the most realistic of the employees. The statement in the February 19, 2003 email explaining, “I can design one feature completely and make it work by August," is credible (UOP, 2003, p. 17). After all, the same email explains that programming involves much more than key strokes. It involves planning, testing and quality control (p. 17). In the previous February 19, 2003 email to Chris, Kelly explains how difficult it is for the programming staff to maintain existing services and find time for something new (p. 16). While programming staff was dramatically reduced in the year prior, Kelly’s belief might be partially fallacious. If the new......

Google’s traditional hiring practices did not create business problems because the method that they came up with to rate people in their positions was brilliant. Google created surveys to see what people really wanted to do in life and what they would strive at the most. Using this will only create results for the company and the individual because the employee will like their job and in turn they will be happily committed to getting work done. 2. Yes, I think that Google’s quantitative approach to hiring a good solution to its employee recruiting problems because these tests are allowing them to put the employees in positions that they want to do, instead of something they know how to do, but have no interest in it, when an individual likes their position they will be way better at it, 3. The role that culture plays in Google’s hiring is very big. Google is the only one of its kind to use this method of recruitment and it is successful. They use the method of adapting to the times by making the atmosphere comfortable for the people working in it. 4. The type of system used in this case study is The Human Resources System. The criteria should be consistent with the business environment for the industry, consistent with your company's overall mission/strategies, and consistent with the mission and strategies of your strategic business unit. You are proposing a process, not individual projects. The deliverable for Part 1 is a written proposal for the project selection criteria and a high level description of a proposed portfolio management process. You may also be expected to make an informal presentation of the report in class. The proposal should be in the form of a memorandum to your Vice President (your instructor) outlining your proposal. The memorandum should be no more than 10 pages, including any figures and tables. It should be double-spaced, 10 or 12 point font with one-inch margins. This is a summary for an executive, so be concise, to the point, and leave out the fluff. Using appropriate grammar, spelling, punctuation, and sentence structure will be part of your grade. The actual proposal should include the following: 1. A description of the proposed portfolio process. You are explaining it to the executives. 2. The reasons it was selected (tie......

Guidelines for a Case Study Assignment

...GUIDELINES FOR A CASE STUDY ASSIGNMENT A case study is a written description of a problem, challenge or issue that needs to be investigated and solved. A formal case report is the written presentation of the analysis conducted, demonstrating your understanding of the problems. A short case study (one to three pages) is designed to provide students with opportunities to experience the challenges faced in real-life situations and to provide solutions to these challenges through the application of principles and theories (Summers & Smith, 2010). A case study has these main features: * it is taken from real life * it is believable for the reader * it includes sufficient information for the reader to appreciate the problems and/or issues. * One way to start is to use a SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats) analysis. The following is a suggested method for approaching case studies. 1. Read the case study through without stopping to analyse it. 2. Read it a second time to identify the key elements including what happened, the sequence of events, who was involved, any significant relationships, the facts and the problems. 3. With an understanding of what you have been asked to do, re-read the case study, this time clarifying the key issues and identifying the problems that need to be solved. There is usually more than one way to solve any problem. 4. Do not just describe the problems, you need to analyse them using the......
