...Job application Form: Once the organization has received a sufficient number of qualified individuals who have applied, the selection process can begin. An “application for employment” or a “job application” is a form(s) that an employer provides to an applicant as part of the pre-employment process. (1) For most employers the application form is the final step in the screening process. The section below will provide information regarding job application forms. Purpose of the application form: For the employer, the job application form fulfills multiple purposes, which often vary due to the specific industry or agencies or because of the preferences of the Human Resource department. Application forms often tend to request specific information not contained in a resume. The job application form helps standardize the recruitment process by asking applicants the same questions. This allows for easier comparisons between candidates as the information is collected in a uniform manner. One of the standards in job applications is to ensure that applicant is legally entitled to work within Canada. However, questions regarding ones relevant skills, such as: education, previous employment and other relevant skills are often asked (KSAO’s). The application form itself acts as a method of testing literacy and communication skills, while resumes are often composed using professional assistance. Having an applicant complete the form often reveals the individual’s ability to organize......

...Application Changing a Promotion System Read the Applications case study, changing a Promotion System, found on page 532-533 in your textbook. Answer the questions that fall after the case description; these are the three questions found in the lower half of page 533. Each question should be numbered, answered separately, and be at least 300 words in length but should be submitted as one file. 1. What is the likely cause of CSD’s problems? The likely cause of CSD’s problems is that they are not realizing the logic of prediction and that is not really a good way of viewing things and in this case the selection decision. Employee Tom and his performance in the Bioglass Company as a sale associate cannot and shouldn’t be viewed as a predictor of how he would be as a manager. The KSAOs required for success as a sales associate (e.g., sales techniques) are very different than the KSAOs needed to succeed as a manager (e.g., delegation, providing feedback, setting goals) (Heneman III, Judge, & Kammeyer-Mueller, 2012). 2. How might CSD, and Bioglass more generally, make better promotion decisions in the future? Be specific. CSD and Bioglass can make better decision promotion in the future by improving the overall selection process by incorporating some additional assessment methods into their hiring process. Those methods are specifically designed to assess the KSAOs needed for the offered job. Some appropriate methods for the managerial jobs include job...

...For those who would prefer to study closer to home or for a variety of reasons do not wish to undertake a degree programme at a traditional university, there are alternatives that provide similar levels of opportunity and breadth of choice but without any of the additional living or travelling expenses. 1) Long Distance Learning More and more learning providers are offering students the option of studying their courses from home. An early exponent of distance learning was the Open University, but now many more universities and professional bodies have tapped into this market and provide the opportunity to study off-site. Distance learning has its advantages; the student is able to fit their studies around other commitments such as a job or family and at times to suit them, so that they are not regimented to attend classes or lectures at specific times and dates. This sort of learning works well if you have a family and need to organise your studying in a flexible way depending on what your family are doing. You don't need to do your studying at regular times but can fit it in where you can. However it won’t work very well for people who need constant motivation to work hard as being such a flexible course may mean that they never get round to doing any work. 2) Online Courses There are courses online where you can study to get a professional qualification with the help of tutors through chat rooms or live chat programs. You do need to make sure that these are......

...part of this role. I enjoy completing administration duties on a day to day basis. I find job tasks like photocopying, scanning and filing satisfying when I complete them to an acceptable standard. Whilst working for Cigna Europe Insurance Services as an Outbound Telemarketing Representative, my day to day tasks involve answering phone calls and emails. The phone calls, whilst as an Outbound Telemarketing Representative, would be made on an automated dialler, and I would speak to customers of the RAC or AA in a professional and confident manner, in order to achieve consistent sales targets on a month to month basis. Currently I am in a different role in the same company, as a Retention Telemarketing Representative, which is a challenging role that requires retaining policies that customers wish to cancel, or make amendments to. Whilst speaking to a customer that may wish to cancel, I am required to access different systems on the computer, and by having strong typing speeds, a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office and organisational skills, accuracy and attention to detail, I am able to complete my role to a competent level. In my administrative roles previously, I’ve managed Excel documents to a reputable standard that are easy to use for other members of staff. These roles required data entry, and access to other databases in Excel in order to extract information to complete my job role. ...HRM410: Strategic Staffing Application Form Assignment YOUR NAME: You are the new HR manager for this fictitious (private sector) company, which has hundreds of employees and is clearly obligated under Title VII and other major employment regulations. Rather than starting over from scratch with a brand new application form, many HR managers would likely take a look at the existing form first. Using the table located at the very bottom of this document, identify the ten (10) items that are legally problematic* on this employment application form, why they are problematic, and what could possibly be in their place, if applicable. Use of the table is required. When you are done “save” or “save as” this document with your last name, then first initial and assignment name (e.g. SmithLApplForm.docx) and place your name in the table box above. Then load it to your Dropbox by end of Week 6. Please email your instructor if you have any questions. *By problematic we are looking for possible violations of various employment regulations. Note that some may not be blatantly illegal, but, rather problematic and best to avoid as a best practice. One final tip: Do not focus on stylist elements such as the layout of the application form or questions you do not “like.” Focus only on the legally problematic items. Case Application 4-B: Off-the-Job Behaviors borrowed. I want to read YOUR thoughts on these questions. However, I do expect at least some citations and references for all assignments. Case Application 4-B: Off-The-Job Behaviors Balancing the realities of protecting the organization and the rights of employees, both in and out of work, has become a major focal point to contemporary human resource managers. For example, by everyone's account, Peter Oiler was an outstanding employee. Oiler, a truck driver for Winn-Dixie Stores and a twenty-year employee, had an impeccable and unblemished work record.61 He was punctual, trustworthy, and an exceptionally productive employee. Most co-workers viewed him as an asset to the organization. But none of that appeared to matter when Oiler was fired. The reason: Oiler was a cross-dresser. On his own time, Oiler changed his persona, becoming Donna, complete with wearing women's clothing, a wig, and makeup. Frequently out in public with his wife—in restaurants, at church—Donna maintained a dignified public appearance, bothering no one, and simply went on with his personal life as he chose. Management at Winn-Dixie, however, saw things differently. Shortly after they learned of his cross-dressing behavior, Oiler was fired. This happened in spite of the realization that his out-of-work behavior had absolutely no adverse effect on his job performance. Rather, Winn-Dixie's position was that if he was seen in public by someone who recognized him as a Winn-Dixie employee, the company's......
