Extreme Downhill1

...Andrea Pia Yates was a 36 year old woman, married to Rusty Yates and together they had 5 children. The children ages ranged from 6 months to 7 years; Mary, 6 months, Luke, 2, Paul, 3, John, 5, and Noah, 7. Rusty Yates worked as a NASA engineer for the Johnson Space Center while Andrea was a stay at home mom who home schooled her children. After battling depression and post partum depression over a period of 2 years, Andrea Yates drowned all 5 of her children on June 20, 2001. Andrea Yates was born on July 2, 1964 in Houston Texas. She was the youngest and had 4 older siblings. She was an active child and got very involved in school activities. She had graduated high school as Valedictorian. She went on to receive a nursing degree from the University Of Texas Health Science Center and worked as a registered nurse. She met her husband Rusty at age 25, dated for 3 years and married in 1993. After the birth of her 1st child, Noah, she quit nursing and became a stay at home mom. Not long after is when she began to exhibit extremely volatile visions of someone being stabbed and also audio hallucinations of Satan (the devil) speaking to her. She never mentioned these to her husband due to his “Bible-Inspired notions about family and motherhood” and kept these secrets from everyone. That is when Andrea’s postpartum psychosis began but went undiagnosed and untreated. Andrea Yates got involved in, what I would call a religious cult with a preacher named Michael......

Andrea Yates: a Fallen Angel?

...Causal Argument “Andrea Yates: A Fallen Angel?” Introduction The tragic and shocking case grabbed the attention of millions of people—Andrea Yates was found guilty of drowning her five children in June 20, 2001. She was sentenced to life in prison on March 12, 2002. Yates' conviction was later overturned on appeal by a Texas jury on July 26, 2006. The jury ruled Yates to be not guilty by reason of insanity. She was consequently committed by the court to the North Texas State Hospital, a high-security mental health facility in Vernon, Texas (Wikipedia). What drove Andrea to commit such atrocities? Why would a mother kill her own children? How can someone be so cold and calculated? Was she possessed by evil spirits, or was she legitimately sick? I will attempt to sort through these and many other questions and arguments posed by many. The Faithful Morning Around 10:00 a.m. on June 20, 2001, Rusty Yates received a shocking phone call from his wife, Andrea, whom he had left only an hour before…"You need to come home," she said. “It's time.   I did it.” He dropped everything he was doing at the time and left his job as a NASA engineer at the Johnson Space Center.  When he arrived fifteen minutes later, the police and ambulances were already at their Houston, Texas home. Rusty was told he could not go into the house, so he put his forehead against a brick wall, trying to process the horrifying news, and waited (Ramsland).  Restless for information, he went......

Andrea Carrazco

The Story of Andrea Fields

...A Book Review The Story of Andrea Fields Elizabeth Seifert Geanross N. Garrido IV-Pilot \ November 4, 2013 Rachel C. Tambanillo Teacher “Call a cab, Lose my number, You're about to lose your girl. Call a cab, Lose my number, Let's consider this lesson learned. Don't look at me, You've got a girl at home, And everybody knows that, Everybody knows that, ah ah.” is the bridge part of the song Girl At Home by Taylor Swift. This song is one of my favorites. Its bridge struck me most. Because of this song I remember a story of a beautiful, young, and respected woman doctor who’s in love. It is entitled The Story of Andrea Fields written by Elizabeth Seifert, who wrote more than 80 novels about doctors after quitting medical school and died at the age of eighty-four years old. The book was published by The New American Library, Inc. in 1950. It is a book of fiction that has 272 pages and divided into 13 chapters. It has no ISBN. It was purchased in the Books & Mags Bookstore for fifteen pesos in the year 2001. Someone once told Elizabeth Seifert that women did not belong to medicine and that was the reason why she quitted medical school after a year and a half. In this story, she will let us – the readers – realize that no matter what gender we have, if we really love that work even though it is not suitable for our gender, if it is all we wanted to do, if it is what we had dreamed of doing, we can fulfill that by giving our best in......

These drugs makers who produce these mental pills and especially the “Prozac” which was taken by Andreas Lubitz had an important impact in shaping his personality. Summary of Andrea Smith "Conquest"

...Chapter 1, Sexual Violence as a Tool of Genocide, discusses the history of and gives us an introduction to genocide. The author talks about the treatment of bodies, in particular Native bodies, and how colonial thought and theory regards Native people as inherently “rapable” and “violable,” a colonial conviction that stretches past the physical bodies of Natives, to Native independence and lands as well. She explains that patriarchy is the foundation by which power is established over Native women's bodies because hierarchal, patriarchal authority and control systems of society are seldom found within native societies. Europeans, on the other hand, have long depended on these methods to suppress and infuse fear into their people. Sexual violence, consequently, serves the colonizer as one way of assimilating Native women into Western society, which, therefore, increases Native vulnerability to gender violence. Sexual violence exists to such a degree, according to Smith, that the "phenomenon indicates the extent to which our communities have internalized self-hatred". Chapter 2, Boarding School Abuses and the Case for Reparations, give some examples for the above mentioned violence. Boarding school systems in the United States are described as a tool for genocide and rape/sexual dominance. This chapter focuses, as well, on the reparations for such wrongs, encompassed by her communication of "abuses from a reparations framework" that is essential for......

I suppose that the question “oh which ethnic group I actually belongs to?” would not bother you in the halfway you are walking, driving, or anything you are doing just by yourself. But when you are interacting with someone else (especially when the person is belongs to other ethnic groups), you come to think of the ethnic identity, your own ethnic identity and others ethnic identity. This is why I tend to see ethnic identity as an interactional identity. On the other hand, ethnic identity is a situational identity, too. In this essay I would discuss about these interactional and situational characteristics of one’s ethnic identity. I will try to explain why am I sees ethnic identity as an interactional and situational identity. I am going to discuss this, because I would like to share my points of view about these characteristics of ethnic identity, after reading some materials regarding these topics.
