Running head: ACCURACY OF DATA INPUT

Accuracy of data input Intro
Printed questionnaires
Since we are working with a document that was created digitially, then printed on paper making it analog, the trick will be finding a method that easily converts the questionnaire's answers back to digital. Options are limited, since we would be relying on the individual's handwritten marks. The ability to scan test using scantrons has been around for a while, and has proven to be an efficient and effective way to quickly grade test. However, scantrones, or OMRs, rely on the testee to fill in bubbles using only #2 pencils. For the purposes of our questionaire, this would work, but #2 pencils would have to be supplied with the questionaire. A better method would be using OCR technology that scans and recongnizes the document based on light properties. With this method, the questionaires could be filled out using any analog input device, pencils or pens.
Telephone survey
Telephone surveys used to be conducted primarily by a pool of telemarketers that would use terminals to input the user's responses to questions. However, automated voice technology has enable a greater number of calls to go out that ask the user questions based on prerecorded questions. Because of this method, automated survey's rely on user input from touchtone key input, or automated voice response. Automated voice response systems has improved, but they rely on the background noice from the user’s side to be quite. So, for now, the best data input system for telephone survey’s would be the reliable touch tone input.
Bank checks According to Stair and Reynolds (2006), banks have adopted the magnetic ink character recognition, or (MICR), to help automate the scan process of checks. This system enables banks to quickly scan checks and input there values in the bank database. What this system does not do is read the handwritten fields such as the To, and Amount. Because these fields are typically handwritten, OCR technology typically does not do a good job of accurately converting these fields from analog to digital. More and more, bank transactions are being done electronically which makes the process of tracking transactions much easier. However, until people completely stop using checks, banks will rely on MICR to track the checks while manually inputting the TO, and AMOUNT field.
Retail tags Barcoded tags for any retail product has been the data input preference for many years. Barcodes are easy to create, and the scanners are relatively cheap. A new type of data input option has recently entered the market, Radio Frequency Identification, or RFID. These tiny microchips transmit data to a centralized checkout system that in-turn eliminates the need for an actually person to checkout the customer. However, the cost of these systems are not yet practical, at least at small-medium retail stores. Barcode data input systems will be the preferred until the cost of RFID comes down.
Long documents OCR technology takes a scanned document and digitally recongnizes the characters while converting them to editable text. OCR generally does a good job recongnizing typed characters, but falls short any document that was handwritten. In either case, quality control would need to be employed after scanning a long document to OCR to ensure the accuracy of the conversion. Newer software will take an the imaged scanned and convert which parts the OCR thinks is text over the image. This method is great if your concern is to able to search the contents of the document.
Conclusion
Choosing the right data input method for different sceaniors can be elusive and should be researched for every different sceanariors. Some of the above examples had newer input methods available, but the older methods are typically more reliable and cost effective. Managers should excersise constraint when looking at using newer methods and wait for proper testing to be done prior to making the switch. The most important conclusion is that managers need to know exactly what the data input requirements are, and what they will be used for.

Input Control

...Abstract Input controls are an integral part to any form. Input controls allow users to perform a variety of functions to ensure that input data is correct complete and secure. “Data input controls ensure the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of data during its conversion from its original source into computer data, or into a computer application. Data can be entered into a computer application from either manual online input or by scheduled automated processing. The input control reviewer should determine the adequacy of both manual and automated controls over data input to ensure that data is input accurately with optimum use of computerized validation and editing and that error handling procedures facilitate the timely and accurate resubmission of all corrected data.” (Audit and Management Advisory Services, 2012) also instruct users that input edits should be used with a form or computer application, these input edits range from checks for invalid field lengths, invalid characters, missing or erroneous data, and corrected dates, or the use of check digits. Input data should also be controlled by the use of record counts, control totals, and event logs. The duties of input controls are to ensure data entry through authorization; in addition, these duties should be separate to ensure that no one individual input control performs multiple critical tasks.  User interface (UI) design is the first task in the systems design phase of the SCLD. One element of the UI......

...Input Devices Input devices – is devices that we put INTO the computer from the real world to receive data or information. ID can be as human interaction as keyboard and mouse or simply environmental data as sensors. This is the list of possible examples of input devices such as : Camera , Compact Disk, Keyboard , Mouse , Digital Camera, Microphone , Drawing Tablet , Scanner, Disk Drive , Joystick , Touch Screen, Barcode reader , Business Card reader , Magnetic-stripe reader, etc. First of all, an input device is any hardware device that sends data to the computer, without any input devices. In other words the input unit is formed by the input devices attached to the computer. An input unit takes the input and converts it into binary form so that it can be understood by the computer. Camera is used during live conversations. The camera transmits a picture from one computer to another, or can be used to record a short video. Compact Disk (CD) - The CD can be put into another computer, and the information can be opened and added or used on the second computer. There is one possible thing like a CD-R or CD-RW can be used as an output device. Keyboard is a way to input letters or numbers into different programs or web-bourses. A keyboard also has special keys that help operate the computer. For ex. key “Microsoft” that helps us to open “start” section whenever we need. Mouse is used to open and close files, navigate web sites, and click on a lot of commands (to tell......

Classification Accuracy

...the training input for the J48 decision tree induction algorithm and the Naïve Bayesian algorithm. Decision tree structures have been proposed extensively to organize classification schemes. During classification decision trees visualize what steps need to be taken to arrive at a classification. Decision tree begins with a root node followed by intermediate node and terminates with leaf which relates to the class label. Each node in the tree evaluates an attribute in the data and determines which the intermediate node to follow. The decision is taken is based on comparing the attribute value with a constant computed using various schemes. Decision tree induction algorithms work recursively with the selection one attribute as the root node with the root node effectively splitting the data. In order to create the smallest tree, the technique for splitting the root node must be efficient. The best split is the one that provides the best information gain. In this paper we use the j48 decision tree induction classification method. In this work the J48 algorithm is selected which gives several options related to tree pruning for reducing computing time. Pruning has the advantage of interpreting the results easily. More importantly, pruning can be used to avoid over fitting. The basic algorithm described above recursively classifies until each leaf is pure, which means that the attributes have been assigned a cl ass label accurately. This process ensures maximum accuracy on......

Input Controls

...controls are commonly referred to as input controls, according to the World Wide Web Consortium. There are many types of input controls that can be used in a web form. They help to provide a framework for the kind of data that will be submitted by users. Selecting the correct input control for a data field is critical. Text input, select box, radio button, and validation are four examples of input controls. As pointed out by Ponce de Leon, most input controls are visual and interactive. There is also something called a hidden input control. They can be used to store system critical data, such as database key data, that the user does not need to interact with. Text type input controls are used to input text. They provide a single-line input field in which any text can be entered. The text type input controls are useful for form data such as names, street addresses, and user names. This data is viewable on the screen, so it ought to not be used for passwords. One type of input control is the standard text box. The text box can display messages or provide a place for the user to enter data. The text box is used when the system requires the user to type information such as city names, airport codes, or web page addresses. When using a text box, it is often helpful to use an auto complete function to help ensure proper data entry. This would be beneficial when the number of choices are too numerous to be displayed in a drop down list box. The data integrity error that is......

When data is entered from an application or automated process, the computer can produce an input log file that identifies and documents the data entered. As a system analyst must determine the importance of automatized and manual controls over data being transpired. Another important aspect a system analyst must determine is to promote data accuracy and quality. Overall the main purpose of this system is to serve as a checkpoint towards ensuring that the data is entered into the system correctly. One thing to consider is that there are numerous types of input controls. Also that most input controls are designed to be visual and interactive. Some of these input controls are: text boxes, drop-down list box, input masks, and validation rules. The first input control is text boxes. The standard textbox displays messages or provides a place for a user to enter data. These messages usually include entities of zip codes, addresses, cities, numbers, names, and serial codes. Once a form is submitted, a script can change the structure of a textbox. When designing a text box, the designer should implement the function called auto complete function. The purpose of......

Input Controls

...Input Controls Assignment 3 Roseana Clark | CIS 210 Professor Nancy Romero | 11/15/2014 Application controls are used to refer to transactions and any data that relates to the computer based application system. They should be kept specific to each application. Application controls may be manual or programmed, but are necessary in the support of record accuracy as well as data validity. These controls are used in processing, output and input. The application controls will ensure the data is complete, accurate, and valid. This is where input controls assist in maintaining these goals. An input is a graphic the server displays with the report. The function of the input control will support the data is complete, accurate, and valid. The procedures include asking the user for input, validating its format, and then passing it to the report. When you create and name an input control, you would assign a predefined data type for the user to enter. The data types will define the input, as well as any restrictions the server enforces. The server uses the predefined data type to classify and validate the data. If the data type is named and the server cannot find a parameter by the same name, when the report runs, the input control will not function. Input controls are an essential part to designing a form. They will allow the user to perform any input functions. These functions may include typing in text, or to select items from a list, or even uploading a file. ......

...Input controls Computer input devices provide users with the ability to control hardware and software functions. Input devices also pass data to the computer. This data can come in many forms, including text, images and audio. There are a lot of input devices you can use with a computer, but they all tend to perform a similar set of functions. Understanding input functions is not typically difficult and is key to understanding how computers work generally. At the most basic level, an input device is for passing data to a computer system. The most basic forms of input commonly used with computers therefore include portable disk drives and CDs. Portable storage devices such as external hard drives and USB memory sticks store various types of data, contained within digital files. When connected to a computer, these can act as input devices, allowing users to copy files onto the computer system. The keyboard is one of the most frequently used computer input devices. Keyboards are connected to PCs through cables or built-in to the same hardware item in cases such as laptops. Users can input text using their keyboard for functions such as word processing, emailing and carrying out Internet activities including entering website addresses, performing searches and emailing. Memory Accuracy

...MEMORY ACCURACY: THEORETICAL MODELS AND EXPERIMENTAL VALIDATION Human memory has been on many occasions compared to the operations of a computer on the basis of their multifunctional systems. Memory is critical and plays a central role in our everyday information processes. Several models of information processes have in-time being proposed. The Atkinson-Shiffrin model (1968) is the most popular is and widely used by many memory researchers. The model indicates the transfer of information from the environment into the sensory memory which is very brief that some information is forgotten before it reaches the second storage. Short-term memory is the second temporary store which is also fragile. The short-term memory is very similar to working memory responsible for higher cognitive functioning which is also temporary. Information is then finally encoded onto the long-term memory where it is assumed to be a permanent storage for longer periods. Baddeley (2000) proposed the episodic buffer as the new forth component of the working memory model. This model was initially proposed by Baddeley and Hitch (1974) with three components, the central executive assisted by the phonological loop and the visuo-sketchpad assumed to be temporary storage faculties. The episodic buffer is assumed to play a very central role of binding features into objects and it is assumed to be a temporary limited store which links all systems together for the purposes of multi-dimensional coding (Baddeley...

...Assignment 3: Input Controls and Restricting User Interface INPUT CONTROLS No matter how data enters an information system, the quality of the output is only as good as the quality of the input. When developing or purchasing a new system or application, it is important that the system or application has adequate input controls. “Input controls ensure the complete and accurate recording of authorized transactions by only authorized users; identify rejected, suspended, and duplicate items; and ensure resubmission of rejected and suspended items (Understanding Internal Control).” These controls are critical because a large number of errors in computer systems are the results of input errors. “Input controls will ensure that data is accurately processed through the application and that no data is added, lost, or altered during processing (Hall, 2011).” There are several types of input controls for an input design such as check digits, reasonableness checks, validity checks, and batch total control. In this paper, I will discuss these input controls more in detail. When human beings use numbers - whether keying them into computers, dialing them on telephones, or reading them and telling them to others; they tend to make certain kinds of mistakes such as entering an incorrect digit, changing the order of successive digits, or adding additional digits. These types of simple mistakes are known as transposition and transcription errors. Check digits are an input......
