HSM340 Midterm Study Guide
YOU MAY WANT TO PRINT THIS GUIDE.
1. The Midterm is "open book, open notes." The maximum time you can spend in the exam is three hours. If you have not clicked the Submit for Grade button by then, you will be automatically exited from the exam. In the Midterm environment, the Windows clipboard is disabled, and so you still will not be able to copy exam questions or answers to or from other applications.
2. You should click the Save Answers button in the exam frequently.
This helps prevent connection timeouts that might occur with certain Internet Service Providers, and also minimizes lost answers in the event of connection problems. If your internet connection does break, when you reconnect you will normally be able to get back into your Midterm without any trouble. Remember, though, that the exam timer continues to run while students are disconnected, so students should try to re-login as quickly as possible. The Help Desk cannot grant any student additional time on the exam.
4. Reminders:
• You will only be able to enter your online Midterm one time.
• Click the "Save Answers" button often.
• If you lose your Internet connection during your Midterm, logon again and try to access your Midterm. If you are unable to enter the Midterm, contact first the help desk and then your instructor.
• You will always be able to see the time remaining in the Midterm at the top right of the page.

5. Assessments with Multiple Pages:
• Make sure you click the "Save Answers" button before advancing to the next page (we also suggest clicking on save answers while you are working.)
• Complete all of the pages before submitting your Midterm for instructor review.
• Do NOT use your browser's 'Back' and 'Forward' buttons during the Midterm.
• Please use the provided links for navigation.

...information is protected. Real time accounting gives one current, up-to-date accounting information at any given time. Batching sends the information in groups. Batching can be done daily, weekly, monthly, or any type of schedule. Real time is nice because the accountant can pull any information as needed and it is accurate. With batching, the information would be accurate through a specified date. I think large companies function better with real time accounting and small companies function adequately with batching. I think the batching reduced costs for smaller companies who may not need the accounting information updated immediately. I do the bookkeeping for a small retail store and we to batch accounting. I only work once a week so we do not need real time accounting. On the other hand, my “real” job does use real time accounting because we are dealing with millions of dollars and it needs to be tracked constantly....

Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) are guidelines for companies to follow as they prepare and issue financial statements. Let’s start by getting an understanding of why the guidelines were developed in the first place? a) Who relies on the financial statements (external users) and why, what are they using the statements for? b) What happens if an External User relies on financial statements that are inaccurate? (what could happen to the corporaton) c) What negative consequences can arise from relying on inaccurate financial statements? (what could happen to the external user) Remember, these discussion threads are supposed to be stimulating conversation, a back and forth discussion among students and teacher. After the first person responds, he or she can respond to the first item, the next person can add a point that maybe the previous discussions failed to point out or answer the second item.. I don’t want to see everybody repeating the same answer. You wouldn’t do that if you were in class and I asked a question. You need to respond to each of the two separate discussion topics by Wednesday the latest. And, including Wednesday, you need to respond to each of the 2 discussion threads on 3 different days. For example, you could come in as late...
